The Official LOST Season Five *No Spoilers* Thread

No prob. I was an English major and had to read both of the works, so I got it right away for once. I usually don't get the importance of the literature dropping they do.

And Hugo was reading a comic book that I did look up, but still don't really get the significance of except that one of the writers wrote it. But I think it was thrown in, cuz Hugo was reading a comic (the one with the polar bear--I saw it in disney world!) before the first flight.

I can't believe I missed the Odyssey reference. :headache:

Y: The Last Man is a very popular comic book right now. I don't think its meant to have any literary significance in the show. Walt was reading a non-English comic book in the opening episodes, so that's why Hurley was reading this Spanish comic. It was intended as another example of the same things happening to the Flight 815-ers again.

I thought it was Walt, but the site I found it on said Hurley was reading it and then Walt found it on the island and was looking at it.

Whatever--either way it's a connection to the old flight. Thanks for putting up the title.

It was Hurley:

There's a pic if you google it, but it's not showing up here anymore. Sorry!

The comic book(in season 1) belonged to Hurley. If you remember, when Michael saw Walt reading it, he commented on it being written in Spanish. And Hurley is hispanic. I don't think we actually saw Hurley reading the comic until season 2 or 3...in a flashback.

Okay, that's what I said right, just not as detailed? The point is that Hurley was reading the comic on the plane.

I think Claire is alive, just in a different time on the island. Much like Daniel appeared to Desmond and asked him to find his mother during that flash back and Desmond woke up in current time with the realistic dream - Claire does the same to Kate.

During Wednesday's episode, anyone catch where Jack and Kate were talking about his Dad's shoes and Jack mentioned that he thought his Dad should have been burried in his old white sneakers? That's a direct reference to those times of him in Jacob's cabin wearing those very sneakers.

I assumed Aaron was taken away from Kate by the State since she isn't his true biological Mother - not sure who he was placed with, but that is why he isn't with her.

Interesting about the book Ben was reading!!!!!!

I also think it's interesting about the water bottle from the airline being found in the canoe. I wonder if it was the O6 shooting at them, since Jin arrived, with a gun, right after they returned.

This show makes my brain hurt! :rotfl:

I am actually quite familiar with the Y: comic series. I haven't read them myself but had to do research on them for a totally unrelated reason.

anywho. It is a graphic novel about all the men dying off because of something wrong with their Y chromosome. All women left on the earth alone except for one man and his pet monkey. Eventually the women turn to lesbianism and some become male impersonators.

Going back to Lost, it could be of some significance if it is some sort of foreshadowing? Walt's comic surely had some foreshadowing:
Walt was attacked by a polar bear similar to the one featured in the comic book &
On the next page of the comic book, there is an image of a castle or fortress in the middle of the ocean surrounded by a giant, glass dome. Later, in Season 2, Desmond returns to the Island, telling the survivors that the island is "like a snow globe. There's no way out." ("Live Together, Die Alone")
(from lostpedia)

Not saying that it is foreshadowing but that it is a possibility.

He's in 1971 because that's where the island ended up when Locke "fixed" the donkey wheel. I don't know why he's wearing the Dharma jumpsuit, but I imagine the entire group will end up having to work with Dharma since it's Dharma's island right now.
I wonder if Locke fixed the wheel though. Sure he used it, like Ben did, but did it stop the travelling of the island? I was under the impression that only having the 6 return would do that. :confused3

I don't think Sayid was convinced to go back. I think he was forced to go back. That's why he's in handcuffs with an escort. Maybe Ben's doing?
Those were my thoughts exactly. I can totally see Ben making a couple of calls to get him arrested.

He was buried in the white shoes and Jack was talking about how much he regretted using them because he didn't care enough to go out and get him a real pair of shoes to be buried in.

I assumed Aaron was taken away from Kate by the State since she isn't his true biological Mother - not sure who he was placed with, but that is why he isn't with her.
But how would the state know? Ben is the one who was ordering the test, the state didn't know anything about it. Unless Ben made a phone call to them and got it done?

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I just can't figure out why the returned Losties would be shooting at their long lost friends. They know they're there somewhere on the island, I don't think they'd just shoot at the canoe. Maybe it was some of the others from the plane???? Is it possible some of Widmores guys also survived the explosion and are still intent on getting rid of the people of the island? So frustrating and it seems next week will be about Locke and not answer these questions :headache:

When I first saw the trouble the plane was having I thought it was going to crash and then they showed the bright light which Sawyer and gang see before a time jump. Now I wonder if the plane crashed or if they were just swept into the time jump. Any ideas out there? :confused3

(We do see the girl police officer with Sayid in coming attractions so I am confused why she would make the time jump though. I don't think they were handcuffed together.:confused3 )

That's why I put the word "fixed" in quotes--I don't think it's actually fixed either. Either that or it is and they have to move it again to go back to the future...lol

My DH just IMd me and said 'someone at works thinks Ben killed Penny" I was like, oh yea, my disfriends and I already discussed this like yesterday! :snooty:
(I've always wanted a reason to use that smilie)

:thumbsup2

I think Ben tried to kill Penny. I sincerly hope he didn't actually hurt her or Charlie--who had to have been with her. Though we know Des has to get back into this somehow, so :scared:

This may have been discussed already, but do you guys think that Kate and Jack had sex and now Kate is pregnant so that Kate could be like Claire was on the previous flight (because the flight conditions had to be duplicated)? :confused3

If this was already discussed, sorry

This theory has been going around a lot but since conception isn't immediate (or even in 12 hours or so) it would be a stretch...unless the writers aren't concerned about simple biological functions.

They're always a step behind, aren't they? :rotfl2:

Yeah, people speculate that she had to be dead to leave Aaron. All we know is that she survived the bomb to her house and then disappeared to later show up with dear old dead dad. So who knows? I guess we will if she does appear to Kate like Charlie can appear to Hugo. That would be nice to clear up.

I don't believe that she did survive the bombing of her house. I believe that, after that point, she was a representation of Claire...probably another of the smoke monster's guises.

I thought that too! Especially the way Miles was looking at her, as if he knew she was dead.

Okay, I'm trying very hard to keep up:
1)Why do we think Ben killed Penny? Obviously he took quite a beating in whatever struggle it was.
2) Who is that other guy on the flight that said his condolences to Jack regarding the body (of Locke) at the airport? Sorry if this has already been addressed.

This show is fantastic and makes my head spin. I too have decided to stay away from the spoilers this season - makes it so much more interesting!
