The Official LOST Season Five *No Spoilers* Thread

So obviously, the person who we are calling Loophole Guy can take on the form of a deal person's body. Do you think that Hurley has been talking to THAT GUY all those times he's talked to Echo, Charlie, etc? Maybe that's why when he was in teh cab with Jacob and told him he's crazy, Jacob said, "You're not crazy," like maybe he knew it was the other guy.

Hmmm - I didn't read into it that much. I just assumed it went white to signify that the bomb had indeed gone off. :confused3

But also remember that it goes white whenever there was a time flash..

And also I thought loophole guy was smokey? Jacob was 'kept' in the cabin by that ring of grey ash. The ring was broken meaning that Jacob had left. When Locke saw Christian in the cabin he said he spoke for Jacob. I think that was loophole guy/smokey there too and all the other manifestations that we have seen.

You know - I was wondering that too. Could he also have been Claire when she appeared to Kate in Aaron's bedroom; Ana Lucia when she pulled Hurley over; and all of those times that Jack saw Christian?

I enjoyed Jacob for the brief time he was with us but was surprised that he didn't visit ALL of the Losties when they were younger. I thought that's wherer we were headed when we first saw him visit a young Kate (ANOTHER great ringer for the older Kate. Once again - great casting.) What was the significance of him visiting some when they were young; some when they were older - pre-flight; and others AFTER they returned?

Oh goodness - THAT too!

Would explain why we heard Jacob whispering "Help me" the first time we caught a glimpse of him in the cabin - he was being held captive by somebody.

I am thinking that the two original men, Jacob and Loophole Guy) had a pact that they could not kill each other. Either than that or they are simply unable to kill each other. That is why Loophole Guy had Ben do it.
Also, remember when Ben went to visit Widmore in the middle of the night? They had a similar conversation about not being able to kill each other. That's when Ben told Widmore that he would be going after Penny.

Yes - I am very intrigued by that conversation - almost forgot about that!

I was wondering the same thing. He obviously wanted them to get on with their lives at whatever stage they were in and not stall their "desiny" or whatever to come to the island later. I also never fully understood why Richard Alpert came to see young Locke and tested him.........?
I wish they would devote an entire episode just on Richard, he is one of my favorite characters.

You know, I don't think Jacob was being kept in the cabin - remember Richard said that Jacob lived in the 4-toed statue. I think Loophole Guy was being kept in the cabin, and the ring of ash was what was keeping him in. Remember how upset Ilana was when she saw that the ash ring was broken? That showed that Loophole Guy had escaped. I think when Ben took Locke to the cabin a couple of seasons ago, Ben also noticed that the ash ring was broken then. The "help me" that Locke heard might have been Loophole Guy asking for help to kill Jacob.

And I like what everybody said about the white screen at the end - it could be from the explosion or it could also be a time flash caused by the explosion and our Losties will all be reunited in 2007. Someone on the other thread offered the possibility that when Jacob was dying and said "they're coming" that Jacob meant that the other Losties were time-traveling to 2007, rather than just Ilana's group showing up.

Dang! This show is going to keep us saying "what if" all summer long! :)

Richard visited a young Locke because of their encounter in the 1950's. Locke told Richard I'm going to be your leader. I will be born in such and such hospitol on this day. Richard visited him at the hospital and saw that what he had said was true. But he visited him again to see if he was 'special' but he was also still testing Locke to see if what Locke had told him was truth. RA didn't know if Locke was really to be their leader or not.

I think Loophole Guy was being kept in the cabin, and the ring of ash was what was keeping him in.
Ah... now that makes more sense. :thumbsup2

My many and varied thoughts post-finale have led me to this thought...

Loophole Guy is an embodiment of Anubis (Egyptian god of the underworld) and Jacob is an embodiment of Sobek (Egyptian god of power, protection and fertility (life)...has a crocodile head and is shown standing, holding an ankh...the statue on the island is Sobek). The hieroglyph in the temple showed Anubis with Smokey so if Loophole Guy is Anubis it would mean that he can control Smokey, which seems likely. So, to me, it seems like this is a Life vs. Death match between the two of them.

I SO agree with this...was waiting for my lunch hour to post it.

I also find it hard to believe that a stab and a toasting would kill Jacob...unless it's something that had to be done IN the statue as opposed to elsewhere, or some other strange loopehole. I mean someone who's been knocking around all those years, visiting off island, could easily have been taken out. So I'm really curious about the 'loophole' details.

... And it completely sucks we have to wait until 2010. Goodness - it sounds so far away.

Anyone know the official start date of the next season? I thought when they announced the final season of Lost a few years ago they said we would get 2 short seasons (last year and this year which both started in Jan. or Feb.) and then the last season would be a complete season and would start in the fall... maybe I am remembering this incorrectly?

No, the last three seasons were each supposed to be 16 episodes long and were each scheduled to start in Jan./Feb. The 4th season was shortened due to the writer's strike and ended up being just 13 episodes long. The producers have said that they are going to make 17 episodes (rather than 16) for the last season, however in a recent interview Matthew Fox said there would be 18 episodes next year. I haven't heard this from any other source, so perhaps he misspoke, but I'll take all of the episodes they want to give us!

I agree with the Kate casting, I knew it was her instantly. As for Jacob being there at different ages and stages of the Losties lives, he was there for a pivotal part in each ones life- when Sawyers parents died, when Locke was pushed out of the window, when Nadia was killed, etc... Each moment had something to do with defining who they were/would become. I hope that made sense, it was harder to put in words that I thought it would be. :p I Now we just need to figure out if he was there to make sure things happened like they were supposed to or if he was there to change them. ;)

I thought Jacob would be visiting each of them, pre-flight, to set up the idea that all of these people were picked and destined to be on that flight together. But that theory doesn't apply to him visiting Sayid. Yes, it was a big moment in his life BUT he had already been on the plane, crashed, spent his time on the island and returned home. That encounter really puzzled me. I'm wondering now if we are going to see more of the Jacob character next season, visiting the other passengers at various points in their life. Maybe that will give us a better understanding of why he came to see them at the tiimes he did.

I think the purpose of Jacob's visit to Sayid was either to kill Nadia, or to save Sayid from getting killed with her. He wanted Sayid alive and alone to come back to the island. This doesn't really explain why they didn't show him visiting Sayid before he got on Flight 815, though. Maybe he did, and they just didn't show it because the later meeting is more significant? :confused3

So many things keep running through my head...

Didn't Jacob touch each of the losties? He touched Kate's nose. He touched Jack's hand when he handed him the candy bar (LOL sorry I thought that was a cheesy scene), he touched Sayid when he was asking for directions, and he touched Locke when he told him he would be ok. I don't remember if he touched Hurley or not.

Do you think that is significant?

DH and I read bits from Genesis, Exodus, and NUmbers last night. THere are a lot of similarities between the Lost Jacob and the Biblical Jacob. Jacob from the Bible had a twin nammed Easu that he fought with from birth and I was wondering if that man could be Easu??

Yes he touched each one, even Sawyer and he touched fingers when he handed him the pen.

I'm still calling him "loop-hole guy" though. I think it's funnier. ;)

I was thinking Loophole guy is definitely going to have a name with a hefty religious background.

Also, did anyone think Juliet was pregnant? I was surprised they didn't do something like that...because there was a definite 'moment' when Bernard looked at her intently and asked if she was sure she didn't want some tea, and she had her hand on her belly.

I thought the finale was really good, right down to Kate's NKOTB lunchbox!

I thought the same thing! And I don't know why they would do a plant like that if they were REALLY killing off the character. :confused3
