The *OFFICIAL JUNE 2011 THREAD* "Some Like it Hot" & Some Like it Even Hotter! Part 2

I live in an area in ma that sees almost no extreme weather/natural disaster type things. The Berkshires stop our snow from the north, we're far enough west that nor'easters are dieing off by the time they get here, we're too far north for hurricanes, and we dont get earthquakes.

With that said, tornadoes are TERRIFYING:scared1:...... I've never seen the sky that color, definitely never experienced anything like it. luckily no damage to my house but some of my family's houses have damage and one of my cousins car is destroyed.

but on the brighter side.....

3 more days till Disney!!:dance3:

Glad to hear you are okay! :cheer2:

We'll be there too so will look out for them as well!!! :goodvibes

Cool! It's so FUN to know we will have 'others' looking for us in the crowd! :cheer2: I'll have my green Mickey ears hanging from my purse (small cross-body D&B bag) ~ SO Excited! 8 days till we leave!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Now that school's out time seems to be creeping by. There is only so much cleaning I can do. Guess that leaves time to finalize plans and get my Disney-fix in for the day.

Thinking about our arrival day - we are getting there early and will have done online check-in, so we hope to get over to GF for late breakfast ADR at 1900 Park Fare. After that quick trip into MK to see Castle and maybe a ride or two. We have early ADR for 'Ohana so it's back to POR to relax and get ready.

Wondering what kind of arrival day plans some of you have especially those who have been traveling since before dawn? Anyone have a special arrival day tradition?

Going to Disney June 25th-July2nd.

My daughter fell and fractured her elbow yesterday! :sad1: She will be in a cast for at least 6-8 weeks (will know more after we see the ortho doc tomorrow). So that means a trip to disney (her first) in a cast.

Any advice???? :confused3

Thanks!

Welcome! One thing I can say you MUST get is a cast cover so that she can go swimming still (well at least be in the water). DD broke her wrist when she was 8 and we had a trip planned. That cast cover was the best thing ever because it still allowed her to get in a tube in the water. She would just rest the arm on the tube and kick around. Other than that she was good. Just helps reduce the sting a little especially with it being so HOT.

Good luck!

DIS boards noob here! Time seems to be flying by for me. We are lucky enough to be going for 12 days since my parents rented an offsite house for the second part of our trip. All we have to pay for is the park hoppers/food for the second week. :) With DW being a teacher, it's hard to find time during the school year. Hopefully we will find ways to avoid the crowds by knowing wait times, using EMH, etc.

I've surprised myself by picking up most of the planning duties for this trip since the wife was so busy with school, kids. Bunch of ADRs set, constantly trying to find discounts on rental car, and planning our itineraries.

This board has been a big help!

This is probably because our school schedules keep us from being part of the "Some like it less crowded in the Fall" thread. Oh well...we're teachers and little things like heat and crowds can't intimidate us!

Yeah, if I can teach Physics to 11th and 12th graders, I can handle the heat and crowds at Disneyworld!

Back before I was a teacher I went in September and the weather feels very much like June. It is still hot, humid and rainy. The only difference is the crowds are less, but since the year we went during free dining the September crowds were much higher than they'd previously been.

I'm a teacher, too! If I can handle 26 second graders daily, I can take on the Disney heat and crowds!

My last day of kids is Thursday of next week. Friday is a half day work day. Saturday I need to pack for all of us, including my 21 month old who is headed to Grandma's. (DH has a work conference in Orlando, so we are going sans child :()
We went in October, and it was not busy, but also a lot of things were closed early, and it was just not the same!
Sunday the 12th we fly out!!!

My DH is the cutest EVER!!!! We're watching the news and the Disney memories commercial comes on and the man did a jig!!! Awww, I love him. I'm so glad I married someone who loves Disney as much as I do. We are so looking forward to this trip!!!!

I don't have any advice, but I hope everything heals properly and she feels better!

Okay I'm FREAKING OUT. We leave THIS Friday at 5pm (driving) and I just know I'm not packed right or made all of the right arrangements.

If YOU had one day to get ready for a Disney road trip what would you rush to get done? I ask because I just know I'm gonna be rushing all day tomorrow and at the moment I feel underpacked, and I just know I'm forgetting to do something.

Okay GO! You have 24 hours to get ready for an 11 day Disney road trip. All hotel, ADRs, park tickets, and auto tune ups are done for you. GO!

Take a minute to sit and write a checklist. If you have a list in front of you, it will make it that much easier. There are some great packing lists on the first page of the thread.

I make one in Word with two columns, each side the same. I check off what I need for Disney and use the other side to check what I brought to make sure I don't forget anything.

Forgot to say HI! I'm new to DISBoards, still learning the lingo!

We are going to WDW June 25th-July2nd, staying at Caribbean Beach Resort (first time on property) in 2 rooms (thanks to having 4 children!)

We are eating at Crystal Palace June 26th at 2pm (for my birthday), Hollywood and Vine June 27th at 5:40pm, Chef Mickey's June 28th at 7:20am, Akershus Royal Banquet Hall June 29th at 1:45pm, The Garden Grill June 29th at 7:45pm, and 'Ohana June 30th at 5:05pm

And now - if you read my previous post - I am going to try to figure out how to do Disney with a 6yo child in a full arm cast!

We'll be there at the same time! We loved CBR! The pool theme reminds me of Puerto Rico.

Anywho, congrats to all who are leaving today!!! May your trips be as wonderful as you've imagined!!!

????
As far as cooking utensils, we're staying at the Treehouse Villas and i'm wondering if we should bring anything to cook with that the Villa's kitchen won't be stocked with????

Thanks!!

Hi! Fairly new to this site, so please bear with me if I'm jumping in in the wrong place! Tomorrow's my last day of work before leaving on Sunday. We're very excited.:woohoo:Haven't been there for 10 years! Still haven't told the kids yet. Plan on doing that Saturday evening.:rotfl: Love reading all the tips! Lord knows, I need all I can get to get me through this! :teeth:

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: Just LOVE reading about everybody leaving today, tomorrow, and this weekend. How exciting! Hoping to read some trip reports soon!:thumbsup2

I now have three bags of dry goods/non-perishables put together and waiting in my dining room. Last night I packed toiletries for myself and the kids and DH packed his so we know we have everything there. I also have a travel bag of games for the trip home. I'm planning on putting together some activity packets for each kid. Yesterday we bought plastic clipboards with storage that I'll fill with sheets and I plan to do some state-specific actitivities and fact sheets for them in there. I don't want them glued to their movies or DS games the ENTIRE long drive back to Maryland! :rotfl:

This morning my two boys were talking about the trip at breakfast. They can't believe how close we are to going! They were talking about our first-day plans...spend the afternoon at Universal parks. They don't know about our lunch plans at T-Rex that day! :) Then they figure we'll come back, check into our room, and relax and maybe have some dinner there. Then my oldest was talking about our last visit and how we ate at California Grill. They were talking about how we walked out on the roof to view the Magic Kingdom and how cool that was and my oldest talked about the cool sushi dessert he got at Cali Grill:

nicosushi.jpg

I think we'll probably have to order that for all of the kids during our California Grill evening. Good thing my FIL has offerred to pay for that meal! :rotfl2:

We've been dealing with so much at home for the last few weeks with health issues for my daughter and my husband that we really need this break! I'm really getting tired of my DD being "BORED" every evening at home when we are just sitting around relaxing or watching TV. There is no chance of BOREDOME at Disney. I guess if she's bored there and nobody else wants to get out, I'll just take her over to the MK for a while! :thumbsup2[/IMG]

Bliss! I have 1 more day of teaching!!! Today is movie day and tomorrow is picnic day! So no real teaching, just more like supervising. My own kids still have school until june 17th. That means I have 2 weeks alone with my 3 year old and plenty of time to plan and pack!!!

Almost done with packing the kids bags!!! :cool1:
5 more days until we are our way!!! :yay:

Yeah they are! We deal with those a lot down here! My town was one of the ones hit hard and destroyed on April 27th, so thankful that we were ok and had no major damage!

Anjalee- my son has that type of Asthma too and it worse at night. Last time we went to WDW he had trouble with it and it developed into bronchitis, this time we are bringing his nebulizer and meds with us. I find if I keep him on the albuterol it tends to be better. I don't know if that's something that might help your son but it makes a huge difference with mine. He's been pretty bad this week with the allergies being so high so I will pack it. You can also get a peak flow meter to bring to monitor his breathing, it's inexpensive and it can tell you if his air flow is constricted. On a side note, I find the humidity actually helps.

Thanks. My son's pediatrician never mentioned a peak flow meter. Where would I get one? From the doctor?

DH and I are both resp therapists so we have had some experience with asthma. I would assume your kids are on a long acting BD and steroid. It may be advantageous to use your short acting BD(albuterol) prophylacticly and for sure always have your inhaler with you. Liquid meds via nebulizer will work better in an exacerbation. As always, follow your Dr's orders regarding medication use. A peak flow meter is a good idea to help catch things early.

Thanks again for the feedback. His triggers are viral infections  and he picks them up from everyone especially at school. We teach him to wash his hands often, but he is still picking up the yucky germs. Then, his asthma just gets worse and worse. On top of that, he has bad allergies too.

I am an asthmatic and I am worried about the heat.
It was 98 here in NC today and I had an attack.

Make sure you keep him on his schedule for his meds, keep the rescue inhaler handy and remember, caffeine (hot black coffee) can help if he is still having issues.

Even though it is going to be super hot, a hot drink can soothe the cough varient asthma.

Best of luck.

Thanks. We always give him his meds at the same time everyday. :thumbsup2

On arrival day, we usually hang out at the hotel and go swimming, then we usually have dinner at Ohana. It's a family tradition. This year, since my mom decided she was coming in early April. I had to go back and change some ADRs so this year we are starting with Cape May Cafe. Then we always go to DTD to look in the shops. We go to bed fairly early so we can hit rope drop the next morning.

Ugh! Don't rub it in! LOL. We still have to go until the 16th. I am counting down the days. Luckily there is a lot to keep me busy between now and then. I have so much cleaning to do in my room at school. Our school is being updated in shifts so last year at the end of the year I had to move all my stuff to my temporary room. Now, I have to repack and move back to my new and updated science lab. I am so excited. It will be so nice to have new science equipment. :cool1: But I do not want to clean or pack. It is exhausting. Teachers accumulate so much STUFF!

As I stated in another thread, we are noobs who have been lurking for quite some time and wanted to thank everyone for the valuable info you have provided thread after thread.

Our family will be coming to the CR June 20st to 26st )I know its wrong just seeing if you are paying attention):)

Its been since 1984 and a visit to Epcot since my last visit to LBV...so we are most excited to be seeing if from the eyes of DD and DS who are 7 & 9.

We will try and post our ADR soon.
