We just booked our FIRST family trip to WDW! You can add us to the list. We will be there Jan 28-Feb. 2 at the Art of Animation. Jan. 30th is also my daughters 6th birthday. We do not plan on telling the kids. The suspense is KILLING me! She has been making comments here recently that she wants to go to WDW for her birthday. We also have a 2 year old boy who will be going. My husband is the only that has ever been so it will be a very memorable vacation for all of us.

What a wonderful surprise for DD. What are your plans for her actual birthday?

2 weeks from today we will be arriving at POR...first time for all of us...it has been a life long dream for my husband, and of course our two daughters are over the moon-beside themselves -excited!!!! I am equal amounts excited and nervous. Terrified to be exact..."what am I forgetting, what is a necessity, omg I can't forget my passports, what if they get lost" I am a paranoid mess!!!! What do I NEEEED that I can't forget?

Haha! I keep asking myself this as well!! I've been to Disney a lot but never this time of year! And the temps for next week are all over the place! Everything from 65 to 80 during the day!! So much for packing light!!

Enjoy your trip and don't stress! As long as you pack weather accordingly and don't forget the sunscreen, you'll be good! And pack a swim suite. The pools are heated!

I read this, it's dated in August, I'm hoping they are still doing it. It talks about testing Magical Express from DTD if staying at Port Orleans and have a domestic flight that leaves after 3PM, just so happens I'm in that group and was already planning to be at DTD that day. This would save me some time

I want full crowd reports from you guys as to whether the "lights crowd time of the year" is truth or not.

Also, on the Disney World site I can only book up until December 2014...

1) Anyone know when January 2015 will be available?

2) Is there any reason I should wait it out as opposed to just booking ASAP?

You won't be able to book online for quite some time due to yearly price increases on tickets and dining plans... this usually happens around June. You can however book room only over the phone now. The only reason I would wait it out is to see if a room only discount comes out... or free dining etc. But I am the person that has to book immediately when I know that is when I want to go...

January is an interesting month. The parks have been very crowded the first week of January this year. And MLK weekend tend to see very high crowds. The rest of the month should be pretty good, although then you tend to get the big tour groups which can be a traffic hazard when trying to navigate around them.

Also, on the Disney World site I can only book up until December 2014...

You can book a room over the phone as early as 499 days out, I believe.

2) Is there any reason I should wait it out as opposed to just booking ASAP?

If I was going to book a room this early, I would do a room only reservation. You can always make it a package later. The last two years, Jan 2013 and 2014, the Stay/Play/Dine plan and a room only discount were the two discounts that were released for January. The discounts were announced in early October for both of those years. There is no guarantee that they will be able to apply a discount to an existing reservation, but most often they can, especially if you call right when the discounts are announced.

Sitting at the airport, waiting to come home.. My sons first trip, 10 days.. He was upset about the weather, we only packed 1 pair of pants the rest were shorts.. He wasn't impressed with the early mornings or all the walking but he also didn't want to leave! Hoping to be able to go back in the future

We came back last Sunday. It rained off and on for two days so between the rain and the water rides at Universal, we were using our ponchos a lot! We sat in the rain to see Fantasmic after buying dining tickets. It was still crowded. We had great seats but sadly it stopped twice and we never got to see the whole show this trip. The fun part was that the crowd was in great spirits even though it was cold and raining. Everyone did the wave while waiting. Only at Disney!

Our full day at MK, it was very cold in the mid 40's with a north wind. At least, it wasn't raining but I had to buy a heavy sweatshirt which wasn't cheap but I do like it. We couldn't even find one to fit my 9 year old so we gave him the one I was wearing to add another layer at least he had a hooded sweater and jeans but we were all shivering. I had a Starbuck giftcards but the line for hot chocolate was too long. Still a fun trip.
