**The Official January 2012 WDW Thread**

13 days left until the trip and the BIG move!

19 days until I become a Cast Member. We are starting to pack up some stuff for the apartment this weekend!

OH! CONGRATS!!! And THANKS!!! Always thanking CMs!

Thank you!!! I am so thrilled to get to be on the "other side" of the magic. I cannot wait to make magic for guests and give back to the company who has created such magical memories for me over the past 10 years of my life (21 trips in ten years).

I have a question for those flying or for those who fly frequently. Do any of you use airborne or emergen-c before flying, or any of the other immune boosters or plane germ products? The last few times we've flown, DS & I ended up with a sore throat and runny nose afterwards. It could just be the altitude, but I'd really like to try to prevent it on this trip, so I'm looking at some of these products. I'm not a germophobe, but I'm bringing a few of those clorox wipes and wiping down our tray tables and arm rests, but wondering about the immune boosters and if they help....

I take Airborne starting a couple of days before my trips. I haven't been sick on a trip yet.
I don't bother taking it before coming home because that isn't as big a worry for me.
I also take Lysol travel wipes and wipe the airplane tray, pocket and arm rests down the best I can.
That's about the best we can do. It's hard on planes with all the recirculated air.

7 days from today from this very moment, we will be loading the van and heading out!!!!!

My mom just ordered tickets for her and my dad. :)
But....
I am very upset over something though. My GREAT grandmother who is 94 and still living by herself fell and sprained her ankle. Her doctor sent her to a nursing home for physical therapy and she will get out January 6th. My grandmother is the one overseeing all of this, and she is so stressed out. :( She keeps saying "if" we get to come with you in January... Growing up it was always my grandparents, my parents, my sister and me. This trip is supposed to be the same group plus my daughter who is turning 3 and is the main reason we planned this trip.

I don't want to sound selfish, and I hope no one is reading this thinking that I am. If something else happens between now and the 20th with my great-grandmother's health or living situation I will understand why my grandparents won't be able to come, but I will be heart-broken at the same time that my daughter and I won't be able to experience WDW the way I always have. She is not sick, but she is very upset at the thought that the doctor may want her to stay in a home after her therapy is done. :( I need a hug.

I totally understand what you are saying! It isn't selfish to want to have a very special trip with your family remembering trips past and creating new memories! Praying for the absolute best to come for you and your family!

Ok I need some help

We are staying at a studio in OKW. part of the deal for this trip is that we are going to try to eat most meals in the room. my daughter will need an afternoon rest so we'll be back at the room for lunch and we'll be there for breakfast. We are going to try to limit to one meal out a day... if we can get away with no meals out on a day or two even better.

SO I'm trying to make a little list of thigns to bring. we have a nice big cooler so if everything doesn't fit in the mini fridge we can keep that stocked with ice.

so far I have:

Bread
lunchmeat
condiments (just small picnic sized bottles)
PB and J
cereal
milk
granola bars
fruit snacks
crackers

I'm planning on making a few meals that are good reheats that we can bring along with us like pizza and a macaroni casserole.

Any other ideas for good food things to bring that will work with the amenities in the room? I think we have a minifridge, microwave, coffeemaker and a toaster in the room if I'm not mistaken... been a while since I stayed in a studio lol.

Found my first post on page 6 or 7 at 7-8 months until trip, cannot believe we are only 15 days away! We moved our reservation to POP preferred room. Our last day we will spend at Universal at Harry Potter world. Trying some new places to eat since we are on free dining:
Reglan Rd, Teppan Edo, Liberty Tree and Via Napoli, repeating Ohana, Sci-Fi.

And have to have our breakfast buffets at Tusker House, Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey and 1900 Park Fare!

Hoping the weather stays in the 70's.

Hope everyone with a January trip has a great vacation!!
Happy New Year everyone!!

We leave on Sunday for the Grand Floridian! They just called today and when I heard have a GRAND day, it made it totally real that in a few days my mother and I will be in Disney! :cloud9:

Can't wait to see WWoHP for the first time :goodvibes

Don't know if it falls under JAN - FEB or both...but we are heading down to Fort Wilderness Jan 29th to Feb 4th.

Cast: Me38, DW36, DD15, DS7, DD5

So I haven't been to Disney in about 10 years. I figure my youngest kids are old enough to make the trip down, they will be old enough to last the days there (hopefully) and young enough where it's still magical for them. My challenge was to get them informed enough about Disney without letting them in on the secret. You know, "Accidentally" stumbling on the Travel Channel's show on Christmas at Disney. Making sure we point out that at the beginning of every Disney movie is Cinderella's castle which is in Florida at Disney World.

Well here is the reaction....I don't think it will be used in any commercial. But we enjoyed it.

We are also staying at OKW and follow a similar meal philosophy. We will buy breakfast foods (milk, cereal, juice, etc) at Publix right when we arrive. We have booked a nice dinner every night. We'll be dining at Paradiso 37, Marrakesh, Narcoossee's, Yachtsman Steak House, and Teppan Edo. We'll take any leftovers back to the hotel to be heated up for lunches or brunches. We've found we can typically get by with just the two meals a day (breakfast and dinner), and then a couple of snacks throughout the day to get us through.

We haven't stayed in a studio before, but I think I read some reviews at TripAdvisor that specifically talked about the OKW studio rooms. I remember them mentioning how small the freezer was in the mini fridge- so no ice cream. I think it barely held an ice tray.

If it's like a typical mini fridge, it will only be a little bit larger than the ice tray that come with it, which I think usually makes 4 mini cubes.

We just started making more meals at our DVC unit, too. However, we don't like to actually cook while on vacation...so we stick to more "warming up" stuff. We haven't brought a crock-pot along with us yet ... but that may be an option for you, too. We are in a 1br, so use the stove for some of this, too. Here is our list:

Breakfast: frozen waffles, pop-tarts, cereal, milk, yogurt, fruit, eggs, bread, butter, milk, OJ, syrup

Lunch: shredded cheese (to make grilled cheese sandwiches), pnut butter, jelly, chips, cookies, fruit

Dinner: Cans of Ravioli or Dinty-Moore Stew with shredded cheese, crescent rolls (we have an oven in the 1br) or eggs

Snacks: more fruit, fruit snacks, Coke for DH, Juice boxes, water bottles, lollipops, individual size crackers

I know it's not the healthiest but we don't want to bring a lot of perishables nor actually cook. However, we still want some variety for 4-5 meals (ravioli, stew, eggs, sandwiches).

Good luck!

AHH I just saw this now. I'm so sorry! This is just such a bummer. I totally understand why you're feeling crappy, as I would be sad, too. Hopefully she can still make it with you guys. If they can't, all you can do is look at the positives and focus on those so the trip is still a good time, you know? I know it's super disappointing but fingers crossed it works out so they can come with you and experience Disney with your DD the way you experienced it growing up.

Either way, lots of hugs for you as it's never fun to be bummed out about that kind of stuff.

You can add easy fruit, like apples, bananas, oranges or grapes. Maybe a premade veggie tray for the first few days or baby carrots and a veggie dip would be easy as well. Canned foods, like soups and chili may be easy for you, as they don't need to be refridgerated and just need to be heated up in the microwave. They even sell microwave containers of things like mac n cheese that would probably work out well for kids. You can premake hard boiled eggs and store them in a tupperware container and they should keep pretty well in a cooler. And you could add muffins, pastries, doughnuts, bagels and cream cheese or peanut butter if you want something other than cereal for breakfast. For snacks, you can add in nuts or trail mix and microwave popcorn. And lastly, don't forget the drinks! Juice pouches, bottled water, soda, and even beer or alcohol if you so choose.
