The Official January 2010 Car Rental Thread

vallamen is my new hero. I was also able to get the $186 price on a midsized. My vacation is still several weeks away but I really thought I was going to have to pay $200+ for the first time in Orlando after 30+ trips. I wonder why it is just the Continental contract ID that gets the rate so low. Oh well, for that rate I can sign up for an account.
Me too! I thought that the rates would never go down. Yeah for us!
funny, ALl these posted codes are making my rate higher, what am I doing wrong? I still have a compact for 337.00 for 14 days- that's approx 24.00 per day with all fees.....can I do better for Jan 3-17? I'd rather have an extra driver added on-

I don't think you are doing too bad for a 14 day rental. Keep checking and try to get a mid sized for that price too. Good luck!

I previously reported a $ 222.00 rate for a mid-size with Dollar for 8 day rental from 1/16 to 1/24 back in early November. I have been checking every couple of days, and the rates have dropped several times by small increments. I am now still with Dollar at $ 195.00, with the OOAG code, for a mid-size or larger category. Still hoping I can find a good rate for a standard or full-size, as I am not that confident Dollar will be give me a car larger than a mid-size in Orlando.

Too Funny! :lmao:Can't take credit - info was from other threads on dis. Glad it helped. As a heads up to others, recheck alamo too - their January rates seem to have dropped again in the last 48 hours. Go to the $25 off weekly coupon (good until 1/31/09) under the hot deals tab on Alamo's website, and then use code 430710 (walmart code from mousesavers with free extra driver and unlimited mileage). It dropped my price a couple more bucks below the National rate - nothing to join and coupon is right on their website. :cool1:

Good luck to all!
Val.

cool this lowered my rate to $171 for a compact 01/23-01/31 with Alamo, saved me about $9 off my prev reservation.

ok- retried with that code from val and it dropped to 290 total for 2 weeks with an add. driver, getting better......thanks! though the page that gave details said the coupon couldn't be applied, does that mean the quoted rate won't be honored?

Is this with the alamo web coupon? I would try calling alamo and mention that the computer system won't apply the coupon from their website to your eligible rental. I'd ask them to add it to your confirmed reservation. Worth a shot anyway!

Good Luck,
Val.

Using the e-mail coupon and continental id, the price dropped down down again another $30 today, compared to the same reservation made yesterday at this time :cool1: Executive Selection for $237 for 11 days!

I have run into a hiccup here...Because my flight does not arrive until 12:30am, the Enterprise desk is closed(closes@midnight). Will I be able to return the next morning to pick up the car?

Budget is open 24 hrs I see, but I find it a little ironic that Budget is about double the price of Enterprise...

Why must life be so hard :confused3

$201 w/tax for Jan 19th to 28th from Alamo with coupons

This is the exact same deal I got with Alamo using coupons and code for an intermediate for 9 days also. My days start Jan 16 and end 25th. This is thanks to this thread because I had forgotten about combining with the extra $25 off.

I hope the deals get better but I'm pretty happy with this considering for the cruise I was going to pay $43 for a one way car rental to the port then about $120 for a town car service back to disney. At least this way we have the freedom of having our car the entire time.

I got $213 total after all taxes for a full size with National. Jan. 21-30 (9 days). Used 5007160 and the $40 coupon ND1881JDK.

Thx got a midsize for $188w/taxes now.

That is interesting. I put in for the same number of days but a full size was still really high for me Jan 16-25th. the midsize came down to $188 but not the full size

I got estimated total of 260.86 (including tax and all those other crazy fees and surcharges) with National from 1/24-2/3 for a mid sized car (Pontiac G5 or similar). This is the best rate I have found and I am tired of looking.
I used contract id 6600435 (got this from an email from National after I joined their emerald club via a link from mousesavers and coupon code ND1881JDK found right here).

Did you try the continental contract id of 5007160 instead? Rate looks the same on the car selection page but if you go through to the rate calculation page, this contract id gives extra savings. I ran your dates real quick using noon p/u and d/o time and the continental code was about $20 cheaper than the national email contract id 6600435.

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

are there any deals to be found for a one day rental, say from airport to somehwhere on property? and vice versa? what's a good place to check for that?

This is my final post on this thread - kept changing my reservation when I found a lower rate. I most recently had a mid-size or larger (lock n go) category with Dollar at $ 195 for 8 day rental from 1/16 to 1/24. I obtained on Hotwire today a full-size at $ 14.00 a day, $ 177.57 total, with National. The rate was listed as $ 16, but when I pressed the contunue button (before I made the purchase) there was a notation that the rate dropped to $ 14. I decided to make the purchase because I did not want to take the chance that a mid-size would not be large enough for 2 adults and 2 kids and this was the first time I saw rates for standard or full-size cars this low.

I booked via Hotwire last night... 123.oo for a 7 day rental with Hertz for a mid-sized. Finally, a decent rate!

to use the continental id, do I need to sign up somewhere?
and,I made a National reservation, using the contintental id - but I don't think I noted while reserving my emerald club id #- I also used my emerald club $40 off coupon with this with a total of 284.00 for 2 weeks with a compact- how do I apply my emeralds club # to this res.?
