The Official Home of the Trading Spaces and Other Home Design Shows Addicts and Fans!

I just wanted to remind everyone about this contest because, well, I had forgotten. Its a once a day entry so bookmark the site. Maybe one of us DISrs can win.

Also WYWO is looking for people in Williamsburg, VA and Lexington, KY - so if you are there apply.

I have to say after contemplating this for a long while now, as we were fans of Teressa Strasser, I have grown to really like Evan Farmer, even really really like him. And if you noticed he has suddenly gotten pretty buff in new episodes and I think it may have to do with his role in some films like the upcoming Sleepaway Camp which his bio says he wrote and recorded a song for. OK, maybe I may be bridging the gap to having a crush on him. This after spendign some time making fun of him when he first came on the show for his prior life.

So those of you that are following the TS Home Free series.. what do you think the "surprise twist" will be at the end? Both of them getting their mortgage? (Kind of ruins the competition) A new home for the winners? A contract for Jon and Stacy to be the first design team of TS? ;)

And on the subject of Hildi - o... m... g - this lady will go to no end to make sure she shocks america. Feathers, hay, records, newspaper (and not even different ones, the same one over and over), cardboard, paint cans on the ceiling - this woman is shock factor pure and simple.

I would LOVE to work with Doug. His personality is a lot like mine - I can be pretty snarky when I want to and I think I would have a lot of fun with him.

As far as letting someone into my house to do a room I would have to go with Edward. Edward doesn't do ugly....lol

So WYWO is going to be in Williamsburg? hmmm... Sandy (PinWizard)!!!! How close is that to you? Do we need to set up a time to go drool.. I mean watch Andrew Dan Jumbo?

I am so glad this thread has been started!!! I have lurked on other boards for TS but the people over there are too scarey. They are not nice to the people and they are into the show so much that they know every bio of every designer and each episode and when the episode aired!

I love Trading Spaces, Clean Sweep (what happened to the one host, I forgot her name), and Monster House. DH and I have talked that if they every come to Arizona, we would let them make our home like Old Key West, FL. Would love them to do a Walt Disney World theme, but I bet Disney would not allow it.

Favorite designers on Trading Spaces? Vern(why did you have to go????), Edward, Laurie, and Frank! I despise Doug; he is so mean to people at times and Hildi scares me to death! My favorite episodes have been the Home Free; they have been a nice change from the cardboard box walls/wrapping paper walls, etc. Hildi should go back to Paris!

I may not like a lot of what Hildi does, but there was one time she crossed the line. Do you all recall the "wine label" episode? These people did not drink, did not really want alcohol in their house and she used WINE LABLES as wallpaper!?? Uh Hello!!???

On TS, I espacially like Edward and Frank and Gene and Laurie. But I think overall, the designers on WYWO are better. I know they have a slightly larger budget (but not that much larger). But I think that Steven and John and Chase just have a more complete vision and artistic eye.

What's funny, is that we would never let any of these shows anywhere near our house. But we have used some ideas we've seen on the shows and will continue to do is. It certainly gives us more confidence (as in "heck, if they can put in a floor, so can we"). :p

Pass Faber my way please!

Or "Faberlicious" as those college girls called him. :)

Another TS addict here, although I agree that the show is getting stale. And enough Hildi already!!

I have Tivo season passes for TS, TS Family, Clean Sweep (I am amazed by both the junk people have and the transformation of those rooms!), WYWO (OMG - the show were Jason had his shirt off - WOW!!) and In A Fix, as well as Extreme Home Makeover lately. DH always gives me a hard time about all those TLC logos on our play list.

I'm afraid to watch any of the shows on HGTV - I'll get hooked and have to watch even more TV :)

The designers on WYWO are generally too "themey" for me, but I often really like their designs - esp. Steven's. My favorite TS designers are Gen, Edward, Frank, Laurie, and Christy - and I really miss Vern.

you and me both!!!!

lol - seriously I have become addicted to cleaning out clutter in my house on the off chance I should die, I don't want people seeing my closet the way some of these people have their rooms.

on the other hand, I would love to know in advance where the clean sweep team is coming because I want to hit one of those tag sales. I can't believe how cheap they mark some stuff. The episode that killed me was when they sold the womans childhood trunk for $5.00. It looked to be worth between $50. - $100. at least.

I love design shows...they're like 3/4 of what I watch!!! I love TS, Extreme Makeover - Home Edition, and Clean Sweep. I cannot stand WYWO...it annoys me SOOOO much. My favorite designers are Frank, Edward, Doug, and Laurie. If Hildi does a room, I'm convinced before hand I will hate it...I don't think I've seen one yet I liked. She's just too weird!!! Vern was my favorite, when he did design. What ever happened to him, anyway? Ty is my favorite of all though... :D that's why I started watching Extreme Makeover - Home Edition in the first place!! :teeth:

I also love like all the shows on HGTV. Does anyone else realllly like Divine Design on HGTV? Candice always designs such nice rooms!! They always come out so nice! Cardboard free, also, I might add ;) .

I believe the husband was a pastor. C'mon, Hildi...she just goes over the top for no reason.

What did you all think of the mansion episode a few weeks ago? Edward did a lovely guest bedroom and I do think the homeowners did like that room. Now that dining room....hmmmm...going from a $22,000 dining room set to spray paint wood for the table top? I guess they signed up for this episode for the fun, but they really did not look like they had a lot of fun at all! I did not like the episode!

I forgot another show I really liked but it is not on any more. I loved House Rules! Does anyone know if they are doing any more of these?

I totally agree - a good designer should know who they are designing for well enough. At least when they are doing something that can be offensive to some. The room itself was nice, but not for the people who owned it.

I didn't like that either. They really didn't look like they enjoyed themselves, like they forgot what you can and can't do in a large room with $1000. How much do you want to bet that room was changed back (or changed to something else) within a week?

And OMG, the rest of that mansion that Edward was in - wow! That looked like a palace, not someone's house!

Okay guys.. how about a little fun game here

List 5 things that you think Hildi may use in the future as a crazy, wacked out, ugly wall covering. Lets see if anyone can actually "tap" into that mind of hers :) :)

I'll go first

1. bubblewrap
2. Strofoam packing peanuts
3. Mulch
4. Stuffed animal fur
5. macaroni

:) What are your guesses?

Another HGTV, TLC and Discovery home type shows addict here! I know someone back on page 1 mentioned the "House Hunter" series and the fact that they always do California locations. I have found a show on Discovery in the afternoons called "double agents" that is a much better house hunting show. They have two agents looking for a home for folks from all different parts of the country. So far most have been in the east, but from all different types of areas, so it conveys better than all California shows like House Hunters. The other thing I like about this show is that it is less staged and the people don't speak predictible drivvel like they do on House Hunters.

Loved the Home Free versions of TS! I'm anxious to see which couple wins. They are both terrific!

What are your guesses?
I would never pretend to understand Hildie!

What happened to Gen? I always liked it when she and Frank were the designers against each other.

I think Vern was asked to leave the show. Frank was here for the Minneapolis home and garden show, and he did an interview where that question was asked. He said Vern had trouble sticking to the budget, and would "forget" to account for things, and that wasn't fair to the other home owner, so they let him go. I heard he is going to have his own design show on one of the other channels.

I can't believe I let this thread get to three pages before I had a chance to hop in on it!! With the exception of CSI, AI, and Survivor, I only watch home improvement type shows. I have been watching TS since season one (who remembers Alex McCloud as the host.... then she did that stupid Joe Millionaire show!). My neighbor and I had thought about applying to the show, but then a few things changed.....number one, we found out that you need to live a short distance to a Home Depot or Lowe's..... we live pretty far from the nearest one.... number two.... Hildi started acting crazy and the fear of ending up with her was too great!!!

My favorite shows are TS and Decorating Cents on HGTV. I don't do anything without a TIGHT budget. And they end up with some very pretty rooms on Decorating Cents with only $500! Plus I love their "Art and Architecture" segment.

I do like Clean Sweep and find it inspiring, but it is getting boring.... I am so tired of seeing people whine about getting rid of their "junk"! Then why did you apply to the show??? And if you were truly afraid that they would "make you" get rid of something you wanted to keep, then why didn't you move it out of the room before they arrived!! Like a recent show with the "wedding dress from a previous relationship gone sour". She should have known that they would want it GONE. And she is never going to get anything near market value for it at a yard sale. She should have Ebayed it!! Or at the very least sold it through the want ads or at a consignment store!

I do like WYWO, but a lot of the rooms lately have been "over the top" IMHO.

But on most of these shows my main question is.... WHY DO THESE ROOMS NEED A THEME??? Why does it have to be "Jungle Casual" or "How the West was Chic" (yuck)? Can't it just be a nice room?? I can understand leaning toward a particular design type.... french country, english cottage, american primitive, oriental/asian.... but must they all have such a strong theme statement?! I can honestly say that most of the rooms in my house have no specific THEME. Except for my son's room which is BUZZ LIGHTYEAR CASUAL!!! :p .............................P

:hyper: That's really funny, because I think she is beautiful too and have really grown to like her (well, not in the same way as your husband - not that there's anything wrong with that...) but every time, and I mean every time, I watch the show my husband pipes up with how much he misses Alex and how much he liked her.

As for Hildi's next creations.....hmmmmm... that's a tough one..... well, maybe
1) Fake fur walls
2) A boudior (or bordello) theme
3) since she likes stillettos so much - poking holes in everything with her stillettos
4) I'm running out of creative Hildi thinking...............

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a lot of designer turnover soon. This can't be a career position for a designer. Once the shuffle starts, I don't think the show will last that much longer. It seems to be so personality driven.

LOL - I'm having a tough time with this. Everything that comes to mind either with materials or a theme is something that either she or Doug has already done!

I had to laugh when she (Hildi) was doing the "Home Free" episode where they couldn't use paint on the walls, so they used fruit to color the plaster!! Did it never occur to them that they could just use food coloring or fabric dye??? Much cheaper and easier! But then they did use the dye for the ceiling.... Oh well. THe fruit was much more "Hildi". BTW..... let's not get too down on her..... she is a Disney fan!! She LOVES Pluto. Notice her Pluto pen she uses in many episodes? And she has a dog named "Pluto".............................P

Well....I guess I could like her a little after all! LOL!

The question for what she could do next on the walls? That is tough since she explored most of the wall coverings already with the homes she has done. You know, when she does not go over the top, she does a nice room!
