The Official Home of the Trading Spaces and Other Home Design Shows Addicts and Fans!

I think Paige made it pretty clear who won before she even read the results. When Stacy said "I don't want to know" right before Paige was going to read the results, Paige said "Oh yes you do". Then she encouraged Angel and Vilma to really think about their answer before they wrote it down.

I was also thinking this throughout the show - she would end her video montages with The Blue team hugging and spent a considerable amount of time talking to them and focusing on them. I do think she was trying to get Angel to rethink. It was a great deal they were offering both teams - but that being said, if I was sure, I would have written all too.

Woa! Two things from that article and link:

1st) Angel and Vilma are Disney employees! Holy Cow, I knew I liked them!

2nd) here's a quote from the article:
Reality television shows such as Trading Spaces capitalize on the wit and gags of real life -- even if that sometimes means two takes. On Wednesday, Stacy walks into Just My Style, the beauty shop where she works, twice to allow photographers to get the right shot. Angel, 46, and Vilma say they got used to repeating themselves, delivering jokes over and over and still eliciting laughs.

And the rooms remade during showtime often need a little handiwork after they're finished, the contestants say. In Angel and Vilma's kitchen, track lighting under the counter was installed with duct tape. In Jon and Stacy's bedroom, the rice paper screens behind their bed already have started to peel. But both couples say the most surprising part of reality TV has been how down-to-earth the crew acted.

I think that if they had focused on that a little more and the bubbling veneer that Jon and Stacey would not have won so handily.

Here is the link to the article about their win:

Here's a little about Jon:
Jon and Stacy have an 18-month-old son, Dylan, and Jon has been in and out of work for months. If their design wins, Jon plans to start his own business devoted to animatronics, home decorating and otherwise tapping the artistic talents that benefited him so much during the show.

I thought he contracted for Universal.

I'd think twice about the home decorating aspect. Not much call for Styrofoam trees and such. He's very artistic an talented. But home decorating needs, it seems to me, to concentrate on whether someone can actually LIVE in the room.

Yeah, this article was a completely different take than the show had - even last night his co-worker was saying he was the most sought after animatronics designer in the area.

I totally agree about the tree - all I could think about when they were making it was how the heck would you dust that thing? I know all of my fake plants in my house - of which there are quite a few as I am not a green thumb - collect boatloads of dusts on a daily basis. I had forgotten, though, how nice I thought their bedroom design was, except for the paint on the ceiling, but I did like the design.

We went to a tour of some "designer show homes" on Saturday. We really weren't turned on by any particular room of designer (but we got some good ideas). What we noticed was a tendency to try to out-do each other with cutesy paintings on the walls and ceilings. All we could think of is that they were all trying to out-do Frank :p .

I really like Design on a Dime. They seem to have ideas that even I could do. I especially like the Trash to Treasure segment. Some very interesting ideas there.
Also the segment where they redesign a room by moving the furniture around. A new look at zero cost!

I also like Room by Room. Again, they seem to create simple changes that the "normal" DIYer can tackle.

I usually watch as many of those Home Improvement shows as possible to get inspiration.

I just re-did my bedroom in a Nantucket/palm tree theme. And I redesigned my guest room prior to that in a Southwest theme.

I too miss Vern on TS. He was my favorite... Love those silks from China....

Maybe I just missed it, but I didn't see either husband consult with their wife about what they were going to write down (All or Half). I would be very insulted if my husband didn't ask me my opinion on something so big as that.

Stinkerbelle, I totally agree with you about the format of the show. They really could have spent much less time recapping. It was boring.

I would have loved to have heard more of the couples reactions at the end of the show. Angel and Vilma didn't have time to say anything. Too bad they didn't write down "half". They seem like such a nice couple and I really enjoyed watching them, although I was happy with Jon and Stacy winning. They really needed at least another 10 minutes after the results to wrap up the show.

That is pretty surprising, wasn't it? I think Jon and Stacy might have had a little time to consult with each other (a little nod or something), but it was obvious that Angel was going all for it no matter what. Pretty surprising given what a strong woman Vilma is - they must have a private sign that they do.

As far as Jon being in and out of work, I would imagine that even if he is highly sought, there are times when he is in between contracts where things might get a little sparse. Obviously, he's bringing in some money, though, because I'm sure they could not have gotten that mortgage on a hair stylist's salary alone.

And other than the tree, most of what their designs seemed pretty home-friendly. The materials they were forced to use might not have been (fruit dye?) or the timelines with which it had to go up, but the design itself seemed fine.

Actually, I think you mean "Decorating Cents". That is the show where they do the Trash to Treasure segment. And I love that part too!!:wave2: ..............P

It's official:

Vern Yip Says He's Trading in TLC JobBATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Vern Yip, one of the designers on TLC's "Trading Spaces," will be trading spaces no more.

Yip, 34, told The Advocate newspaper that he's leaving the program to star in his own home improvement show on NBC.

He'll start production on "Design Intervention" in June, for airing in September, Yip said in a phone interview.

"`Trading Spaces' was an amazing opportunity for me," Yip said. "It opened a lot of doors for me and allowed me to travel across the country and to meet a lot of great people. Now NBC has offered me my own show."

On "Trading Spaces," neighbors decorate a room in each other's home with the help of a designer in two days with a budget of $1,000.

"We're going to transform an entire house, inside and out in two weeks," Yip said. The homeowners will get all new furniture and landscaping.

"We want to get families involved," he said. "We're looking for those homes where they've started a project, like a new addition, and thought they could do it on their own, but they never really finished it."

Yip is scheduled to appear in Baton Rouge on Saturday.

Thought I'd move this back to the top.

What did you think of the rooms last night?

This is the first room that I liked of Kia's. Maybe she's coming along. Probably the only thing she could have done different was to leave the piano alone.

Can't say I like Laura's room another where a designer went to an obvious theme that wasn't right for the homeowner. Just because they are Native Americans' doesn't mean they want a feather light.

I believe Kia painted the piano just for controversy. That WHITE piano stood out like a sore thumb in the 'after' shots. It would have looked MUCH better if it hadn't been changed. From what I've read from a musician poster on the TS board, sound-wise the piano should NOT have been painted. On TV it appeared to be beautiful wood before Kia got to it.

Laura did seem to go overboard with her 'Indian' theme. I can't imagine the feather light fixture is still up. Heck, I can't even imagine spending $300 on beads.

The light fixture was way over the top and, like the homeowners said, way too stereotypical. I can't believe she spent $300 on that stuff too - that's even more of an insult. She could have used that money for something much more tasteful.

DH almost had a heart attack when he saw the promo where Kia was painting the piano. He got downright mad, actually, because he said that she was completely ruining the sound of the piano - that painting one is the worst thing you can do. Given Paige's musical background, I'm surprised she didn't say anything about that.

However, I'm even more shocked that the homeowner's sister didn't mind. She had said in the beginning that the piano was off limits because it was a family heirloom, and yet her sister did nothing to defend it.

Other than that, I liked Kia's room - although I was trying to figure out where the TV that was originally in the entertainment center went. I really liked the way Kia used the entertainment center, but what if that was the room they always used to watch TV?

It does amuse me, though, how much Kia likes to use wallpaper, especially when everyone else is trying to have it taken off.

So what does everybody think of "In a Fix"? It's kind of growing on me. Not as exciting as Ty's new show, but very interesting and entertaining.

I haven't watched too many of the "In a Fix" but haven't liked it much. No real good reason just didn't like the characters I guess.

She is definitely one of my least favorites on the show these days. What an attitude too?!? She'll probably stay around for the sake of the "drama" thought.

I really like the first room Laura did, a bonus attic room that was done mainly for the teen girls. She does design for that group, even her room the other night. The girl & mom loved it and the dad / boy didn't seem thrilled.

I'm going to use an idea from Laura's bonus room in my 12yo DD's room. She put mirrors and a bar on the back of a divider. I'm going to mirror the closet door and put a bar on it. My DD is a dancer and would love to have a little practice area. I'm going to get a sheet of linoleum and just put it on top of the carpet right there. Hopefully that will work okay for now, someday I want to do wood in the entire house but she might be moved out by then.
