The Official GLEE thread

I have no recollection of that. I wonder if it's available to view somewhere out in cyberspace.

If any of you are too young to remember to remember the original Band Aid song, you can find it on Youtube. Aside from the performances, the 80s big hair styles are hysterical.

I believe you can find it in its entirety on youtube. HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbF_ecnlyTk

I was a bit :confused3 over the "Do They Know It's Christmas" song sung to a bunch of homeless. It seemed...rude. It's that "tonight thank God it's them instead of you" line. I HATE that song.

Thanks.

I have to agree with you on that point. I happen to love the song and being non-Christian, it's one of the songs I really look forward to hearing (along with Sting&Bing Crosby's "Drummer Boy", Paul McCartney and John Lennon's songs). In the original version, that line made more sense, because they were singing to people more fortunate than the people in Africa for whom it was meant.

Did anyone else get tired of the B&W 'special' after awhile? It was cute in the beginning but then I was like 'enough with this already!' I think it was because I just wanted to hear them sing 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' and I was getting impatient. Love that song.

It did annoy me but had I known that "Do They Know It's Christmas?" was at the end, I would have wanted it to continue. I HATE that song! :rotfl:

Hate that song too. Most dreaded song of the season for me. It was weird that it was so happy and joyously presented to a group of homeless - who also seemed happy about the starving kids in Africa. :confused3

btw - "there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas"...dumbest line of any song EVER. It's either on the equator or south of it and therefore summer. If there IS snow in Africa on Christmas there are much bigger problems.

But I loved how the light sabre was the only thing in color.

I loved that they made Finn say a disclaimer. :rotfl:

Bono rocked that feathered mullet like no one could.

Overall I think I liked last year's Christmas special better. 'Sue the Grinch' was classic.

I agree on the Finn comment....but I liked this year's special better than last year.

I love that song...but agree that it was weird to sing to homeless people.

I said the same thing about them singing "Do They Know it's Christmas?" to the homeless. It would be more appropriate to sing it before you get to the homeless shelter.♫ Feed the World ♫ as you are serving up the food is kind of tacky.

I thought they had some continuity issues...
1) During one song in the choir room (Blue Christmas?), Brittney & Santana were dancing, then all of a sudden sitting down
2) Artie makes the comment they're supposed to 'tape' (meaning record) their Christmas special Friday night, then you hear him off camera at the start saying "are we live?"
3) During the scene at the homeless shelter, while they were singing, I swear I saw Artie with his coat off playing with a child at a table, then in the next shot he had his coat and hat back on and singing with the group.

Sorry, I just wasn't that impressed with this episode. The cheesy B&W special just rubbed me wrong. I did like (most of) the songs however.

I noticed that too! :confused3

Many of the songs in Glee are montages. They have scenes interspersed within the song.

This particular song is showing the activities that the Glee "kids" did with the homeless kids while they were at the shelter.

From what I remember though, they didn't show shots of other characters interacting outside the song. It just struck me wrong.

they did it w/Rory too.. he was reading a book one second and standing by the tree singing the next.

I'm really glad I'm not the only one who thought that. I felt awkward watching it because, in that context, the song was basically saying "Yeah, your situation is bad. BUT, in Africa they don't have present, snow, OR food."

I LOVED the christmas special. Chris Colfer and Lea Michele nailed it during that part. Amber Riley looked beautiful. I was cracking up the entire time. Except during "My Favorite Things" because I hate that song. The episode was very cute.

Not a usual poster on this thread but I thought I would add that I am an extended day teacher for an afterschool program and one of my kindergartners was an extra for the scene that takes place in the shelter.

He was so excited!

He is in a red and black checked shirt/jacket. He can only be seen at the very begininng running across the room..... which is somthing he does in my class all the time. :rotfl2:

I have never watched glee before but will admit I really enjoyed this espisode.

Glee's version of Do They Know Its Christmas was way too upbeat for the content in that song. That is not how the origianl was sung. I think they missed the meaning of the song and how they sang it at a homeless shelter.

I liked the rest of it.

:confused3 It was the same tempo as the original. ?

I LOVED the opening sequence with Becky. LOVE the accent!

I love when they write Sue like they did in tonight's episode, she's snarky but not so mean that I can't stand her. I had read some spoilers/hints about tonight's episode and it went pretty much the way I thought it would, I knew Bieste and Cooter would be the ones to have eloped and I saw Finn proposing to Rachel a mile away (I bet she'll tell him maybe or make it more of a promise-ring type of thing instead of an engagement). Helen Miren's dialogue as the Queen and Becky's inner-voice was hilarious!
