The Official Free Dining Watch 2007 Thread

I am happy to rebook my entire package bacause I got a code and would not be able to rebook at this time and I paid with my bank card. My DH does not want to buy disney insurance since it comes with the card.

I did buy my Air fare with the card to get the insurance through disney visa however.

Now when I rebook I will lose my discount but get a better one and pay for the entire vacation with the visa card.

Anyone else do this?? Or will be doing this??

Yeah, where is there travel insurence with DV?

I was wonder almost the same thing? I am booking thru CAA (Canadian) and will put the $200. on cc but want to pay balance with money order. The first time I paid whole thing at once thru Disney it worked out to more Cdn more than I was expecting I guess there is some kind of fee or something?? Does anyone know if I can pay with money order or cashier cheque?:confused3

The little packet of information that comes with card card has all the information about vacation insurance as well as insurance for air fare. I use to wonder why no one ever talked about it on here. I will look in my file box for it so i can share what it states.:thumbsup2

Effective 1/1/06

The Plan

As a disney cardholder, you , your spouse or domestic partner** and your dependent child(ren)* will be automatically insured against accidental loss of life, limb, sight, speech or hearing while riding as a passenger in, entering or exiting any licensed common carrier, provided the entire cost of the passenger fare(s), less redeemable certificates, vouchers, coupons has been charged to your visa card account. If the entire fare ........

I cant type all of this
Its alot
My Dh just got home early and he is going to scan it for me as I can find an up to date one online.

Please forgive me if this has already been answered in this really really long thread.....;)))))

Planning a September trip for four. Dates flexible. I've been waiting for the free dining details to come out. Assuming (and that's a big assumption) that it becomes open to the public on Friday (as I don't have a Disney Visa), will I be able to book a trip with the free dining with just the standard $200 down, or does the whole package have to be paid for at that time?

Thanks very much!!! I've not been allowing myself to get excited until the reservations are made, but I can hardly breath right about now.....:yay:

$200 down. The balance will be due 45 days prior to check in.

If my memory serves me right, they did not change the dates.
They stop free dinning right before MNSSP begins.
Value season used to be longer,it is now shorter.
But in 2005, the reoffered the free dinning a couple of weeks after it had expired.

Last year value season for values and moderates didn't start until 8/27 but the free dining started 8/12 (I think?). I booked a free dining package last year starting 8/22 and paid value season for the room as part of the package even though value season for room only hadn't started yet.

Last year they did extend the deadline for booking a package but never changed the actual dates of the package.

This year value season for values and moderates starts 8/5 and they are making a big deal about how those hotels are cheaper than the same dates last year.

So basically the Disney Visa just mostly covers against loss of life, limb etc. while you are in the airplane. It doesn't cover you if you have to cancel because you get sick or have to cancel for a reason like that, right? I think I'll still buy the other insurance then.

Is there any other way than buying it from disney to cover the trip? like 3rd party insurence? or anything like that?

There sure is! Go to insuremytrip . com that is where we always get our travel insurance....they search all of the major insurers and give you the prices for several different policies!

for 2 people, it seems like Disney is right around the same price for $119.99 or whatever it cost... Have you ever had to use your insurence for a trip?

Yes, you are correct For some reason the first time i read this thing I though it covered more but after reading it again today, even though what it does is great and all, I like you, will still have to but insurance

Thanks for the info. Maybe I can change some people's minds and change are plans to a week later.

Does anyone recall which resorts filled up first with free dining the last two years...or maybe never even had any rooms offered with free dining?
With the demo of part of the CR I'm betting there won't be anything offered in that resort.
I'm guessing the values go because of people looking for the best deal (free dining is a nice % off), and then the deluxes because of those that will upgrade their choice rather than pocket the discount.
What do you think?
Jill

I know there was still availability in values in late June last yr, but choices were ASMu or POP. ASMo and ASSp had no availability. There was also availability at both New Orleans mods and CR and Poly as those are the ones we considered. Again, we booked just days before the (extended) promotional period ended. It was ~ +$500 to book a mod (over a value) but +1,900 to +$2,900 to upgrade to CR or Poly, depending on the views.

Some companies charge based on other factors such as resident state, age, etc so your premium might be different than the flat rate from Disney. Plus, I have usually found the coverage to be better with independent companies.

That said, depending on what the airline fees are and if you booked a package, the potential loss can be less than the insurance premium. Conversely, if you are renting/using points, the coverage might not fully cover your loss, although it will at least mitigate it.

I have found the availability to be great actually, during the entire promotion, the last two years. This year might be very different though.
