The Official DIS Oscars LIVE Watch Party Thread! The Afterparty continues. . .

I guess this might be the only time WS has been caught on camera with this behavior. We saw his family’s reaction. The were laughing at him hitting CR and saying this is how we do it. Big stars get away with a lot and likely in Smith’s case too.
big star or ordinary person, this is an easy way to identify a low class loser. Anyone who actually believes they were "defending someone's honor" by assaulting someone else, just because they didn't like a joke that person told tells me all I need to know about them. Not exactly playing with a full deck mentally.

I love pastor T.D. Jakes, whose Leadership Conference Denzel was at. (Tyler Perry was with T.D Jakes at a different event another time. And yes, Tyler Perry's faith runs deep and he does pray a lot.) So I went to see if I could find more of what was said and the full context of what Denzel said. It's obvious he says more than that, and he did. So did T.D. Jakes.

Here is the full section. This webpage wrote it all out:

"But Washington hadn’t talked about it until speaking with megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes at his annual International Leadership Conference, which was held in Charlotte, North Carolina this week.
“You stepped in the middle of World War Three,” said Jakes to begin his question about the slap. “We were looking at Ukraine and it happened on the Oscars, when Will, who I love, slapped Chris, who I love. You came in as the senior statesman to that situation.”
“These legends got into a fight in front of the world, what happened? It wasn’t really a fight, it was just one person slapping the taste out of the other one’s mouth,” said the pastor, as Washington smiled and the crowd laughed.
“Well, there’s a saying when the devil ignores you, then you know you’re doing something wrong,” said Washington. The crowd reacted and he said, “I’m not done now.”
“You know, the devil goes, ‘Oh no leave him alone, he’s my favorite’,” he said. “Conversely, when the devil comes at you, maybe it’s because you’re trying to do something right.”
“And for whatever reason, the devil got ahold of him, okay, of that circumstance that night,” he said of Smith.
“Fortunately there were people, not just me but others,” said Washington. “Tyler Perry came right immediately right over there with me, and — some prayers, you know. I don’t want to say what we talked about.”
He paused at that point before adding, “There but for the Grace of God go any of us. You know, who are we to condemn, you know?”
“I don’t know all the ins and outs of the situation, but I know the only solution was prayer, the way I see it,” he concluded.
Jakes said that the “embarrassing truth of all of that is this: you had a scandalous situation to happen at a momentous occasion. And then two or three icons who are senior statesmen, highly respected in the industry tweet about. I hate to hear people talk and tweet to people they could call on the phone.”
“And here we see actors acting more pastoral than some preachers do, than some church people do. Because we would’ve been so busy talking about it, nobody would’ve actually went to them and prayed with them. Really? And if you do go pray with somebody who’s in scandal, they may start talking about you!”
He then praised Washington for his leadership in the midst of all that happened, and he and the crowd gave a brief standing ovation for Washington, who reacted with characteristic humility. "

The web page also has a video of it. But, I found the sound rather muffled. It's better to read above first.
Then go HERE for the video clip.

TMZ reports, "Later in the panel interview, Denzel is reported to have talked about the idea of just sitting this one out -- to which he said ... no way, not on my watch."
DW described the moment right afterward, "I couldn't have sat in my seat. No way I could have sat in my seat. That's just not who I am." This was evident right away, because Denzel was photographed getting in between Chris and Will in the immediate aftermath.

As you may have guessed by now, Denzel is very religious ... often referencing his Christian faith."

I think Denzel means, not to condemn in the moment that it's happening. If (general) you are condemning, you don't have the compassion at the same time to be helping. (It doesn't mean you don't get to sort out what really happened afterward. Denzel had even said, "The 'Devil' comes after you," metaphorically speaking. He knows Will did something awful.

In the first link, TMZ reports, "Later in the panel interview, Denzel is reported to have talked about the idea of just sitting this one out -- to which he said ... no way, not on my watch." That also tracks with what T.D. Jakes said: other people were judging, condemning, talking and tweeting about it at the moment. Meanwhile, Denzel and Tyler Perry went over to help a friend who they know doesn't normally act that way.
As a devout Christian myself, none of this impresses me. Washington didn't rush to Rock's side to ensure his wellbeing and none of his comments even remotely hint at trying to bring true reconciliation between the parties (which would be the Christian principle most at play here). It's all about smoothing Smith's ruffled feathers - why? I wish he'd left any mention of faith out of it and I certainly wish Jakes wasn't praising Washington's actions as a model for Christian leadership.

Found it!
:lmao:

That was pure gold 😂

The more I hear about this, the more I think we “peasants” should stop allowing the “a” listers dictate anything. How is it a wealthy “a” list celebrity, gets up, hits someone, and no one does anything! If an average joe got up at a comedy club, struck the comedian, they’d be in jail! We as a society need to stop our star-struck behavior. After all, most of the “famous” folk don’t acknowledge most of us anyway (especially if we’d like a pic or autograph (that‘ll be $10) it’s also shameful that the cost of their dresses, jewels, and lest we forget about the over $100000 gift bags! exceeds many folks annual income. Ug.

For that we have to stop watching their movies, buy magazines, watch youtube videos about them, don't listen to podcasts.

Those are things we will never know. Maybe he has family, friends and managers who say 'maybe now is the time to stop dabbling in whatever Jada is into and do what is good for you'.
We shall see in a couple of months/years.

There will be probably an interview with Oprah. That's what people do, go for confession at Oprah, who will bless him an then he can go back to work.
The Sun says that both Ellen and Oprah has to made Chris Rock an offer to come talk about the slap. The article also insuanates that one reason Chris doesn't talk is because there are big bucks going to be paid for that first interview.

Also Chris is probably making about 2 million dollar out of it in extra revenue for his comedy show. Shows are now sold out months in advance and extra dates have been added.

<thumbs up>

I think we could probably still watch their movies (though I haven't been to the movies in a long time - fed up with how other people behave there!) -- but I agree we'd have to stop investing time/money in all the stuff that relates to them in person - magazines, social media, YT, podcast etc..

It’s likely part of it. Although I’m sure he’s still processing the incident. My guess..first reaction was that he just wanted it to go away. I don’t think anyone wants to be a victim. It probably brought up old feelings and memories of being abused and bullied as a kid. It doesn’t just disappear.

My first thoughts were either Smith was drunk, drugging or melting down. Some around him state how uneasy they felt being near him. I think DW, TP , etc were trying to diffuse the situation so Smith wouldn’t go berserk. Allowing him to stay wasn’t a good decision IMO. His behavior afterwards is disturbing. He didn’t realize how wrong his behavior was and his family enabled him.

What happened in the moment isn't the problem so much as how they are explaining/justifying it now (their own behaviour and attitudes, I mean).

That's the hard part, isn't it?

I remember about 25 years ago that Disney was planning to expand benefits to partners of cast members beyond just legally married spouses, and there were people who planned to boycott. And, then they found out Disney owned ABC and ESPN, with made it a lot tougher than just not going to Disney movies.

I would guess Ellen over Oprah. Stand up comedians seem to rally around each other and stick together. Chris doesn't seem like the type to go cry on Oprah. He's no Prince Harry.

Why I think he should go to Oprah, because if he does Ellen, Will can still go to Oprah for a confession. I think Will going to Ellen is less likely. And I also don't think they will both go to Oprah.

Will is looking at a lawsuit. He needs to go away and be quiet. His family needs do they same.

That is true. I'm sure Oprah would welcome Will with open arms. She and Tyler Perry are best buds. And we know he is on Will's side.

The Grammys are tonight, it'll be interesting to see if they make any reference to this or if they just ignore it. Trevor Noah is hosting.

Oh yeah. Will was roasted in the preshow and one presenter came out in a helmet.

I just got home. Was anyone slapped yet? What? Joke too soon? :duck:

Did Kanye show up? Has he won anything yet. I heard he might not show up. But, I think this would be the perfect time to show up. If he wins he could really give it to the Grammy producers. "You guys were afraid of what I would do?"
:rotfl2:

It could also be Chris is waiting for the Academy to make their determination. He doesn't want to say anything where he gets blamed for what they decide. Will Packer already claimed Chris was responsible for why Will wasn't tossed out of the building. :sad2: Some people may blame Chris if the Academy bans Will, saying if he hadn't spoken up Will might have just gotten a slap on the wrists.

Upcoming projects that Will Smith expected to complete have now officially halted as a result of the now-infamous Oscars slap. The Netflix film “Fast and Loose” and Sony’s highly anticipated movie, “Bad Boys 4” have both been put on hold, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
