The Official DIS Oscars LIVE Watch Party Thread! The Afterparty continues. . .

She appeared caught off guard. Made me wonder if she expected Jim to be in goof character and laughing it off? This Jim was not having it

She mentioned in the interview (also on YouTube,) that just before that segment, she had already been interviewing Jim Carrey for some book or project he has coming out. That, they were actually scheduled weeks ago to do that interview. Not that he came on just to do an Oscars interview. She just tacked on that question, since the Oscars had just happened. So, he was already not in goof character mode when she asked him that.

I don't usually watch CBS. I watch GMA on ABC. Seriously, this is the best CBS can do? Hire an anchor/reporter who can't tell there was no escalation that happened before Chris Rock got assaulted? I get she's Oprah's BFF. But, her job is supposed to accurately assess situations and ask questions according to that.

I really think she is one of the spineless celebrity people who is used to everyone saying "yes" to Oprah, or she needs to stay on the good side of the Oscar winners so they do a future interview with her. She really thought if she leads Jim Carrey by saying, "You know what I mean? It escalated to that level." That "You know what I mean? was a cue that Jim was supposed to fall in line and be a sheeple and also give Will Smith a pass. 🐑🐑 🐑

Meanwhile, on ABC this morning, (already mentioned up-thread,) George Stephanopoulus was asking their legal expert, "Why wasn't Will Smith hauled out of there???"

Have you watched Stephen Colbert?

In the end, the main issue, before we can judge Will's actions: Did Chris know about the alopecia, or was it just a GI Jane joke?
And does Will know if Chris knows? Or does Will just assume that everyone knows about his wife's condition?
Doesn’t matter. Will was an ***!

Hollywood is fake and fickle. The same ones clapping for WS a few nights ago will turn on him if this goes south

Yes, I think that's part of why they all gave Will a standing ovation. In Hollywood, he suddenly has power now, due to just winning Best Actor. None of those spineless sheeple want to be later singled out as sitting down when he won, right after slapping Chris, showing that they don't think what was going on was right. They were all more worried about possibility not getting in his next film if there is a role for them. :sad2:

Jim Carrey doesn't care. He's no longer on the A-List. He's also a really good painter/artist. And I guess he just wrote a book. As Rambling Mad said, he's matured and gone deeper into himself. He's doing work that feeds his soul over chasing what Hollywood turned him into for a long while - that goofy character.

Oh curious, that is my question too. Why wasn't WS removed?

Basically because that call had to be made unanimously by the members of the Academy, who were spread out all over that massive theater and there just wasn't enough time. It was a live show and Will was the favorite to win Best Actor, and as they say, "the show must go on." It was "seriously considered" though. They spent quite a bit of time determining that the act was not a bit planned by Will and Chris, because there was confusion there as well.

I like how Jim C summed it up directly and firmly. "You do not have the right to walk up onstage and smack somebody in the face..... because they said words."

Hallelujah and thank you Jim for saying what many people do not seem to understand.

Denzel, Tyler and Samuel all class acts. A setback for sure!

He's had his own public struggles with mental health, which is why I commented earlier. He's come full circle after seemingly blowing up his own career. He is back in a much more grounded way.

I was just about to post the video below, when Jim Carrey's interview came up and we stated talking about that.

This is what Whoopi Goldberg was explaining on The View today. She's on the Board of Governors for the Academy Awards, so she was there during the emergency board meeting last night. She said she is not going into talking about what the the Academy is going to do yet.

However, she did give some details into what they learned happened during the awards. (Whoopi was an Oscar host like 3 times, so she knows how stuff works behind the scenes and in the control room.)

Just setting up the scene. I have the scene cued up to Whoopi talking. Just before this, Joy read a passage from Will's memoir, published earlier last year, where he explains at 9 yrs old, he watched his father brutally punch his mother in the side of her head so hard, that she collapsed to the floor, spitting out blood. Will said that moment became the defining moment of his life.

We've all mostly seen the videos up-thread of how Denzel and Tyler Perry and even Bradley Cooper went over and talked to Will during the commercial break. They may have read his memoir or already know about the past childhood abuse. (I'm also thinking now, that event may be the "devil" Denzel talks about that raises up to get someone during their highest moment. Will suddenly needing to protect his mome the way he couldn't as that 9 yr old child.)

And there's another video, how even 15 minutes later, right before Tyler was standing onstage to talk about Sidney Poitier for the Memorium, Denzel and some woman are still talking to Will & Jada.

Whoopi loosely mentions this stuff, along with other stuff that went on.

I heard the show today and I 100% disagree with Whoopi that they made the right decision by allowing him to stay.

While I am glad Chris was not punched, I am a little shocked that a grown man went for a slap to the face :rotfl2:

Actually. legally it's key that it was an open hand slap and not a punch. I learned this decades (and another body) ago, when I was learning martial arts/self defense. To always use an open hand. It's something like a misdemeanor when it's an open hand. It becomes a real assault when it's a closed fist.

So, if you ever find yourself hitting someone, use an open hand. ;)
