The Official DIS Golden Globes LIVE PARTY Thread!!!

I was reading today that some folks were upset that Kirk Douglas was there at all due to the very serious stories about his brutal rape of a 14 year old Natalie Wood back in the day. This year of all years to have him was tone deaf.

Ugh, just looked this up because of your post...that sucks.

Zeta-Jones is almost 50, if I look that good then, I'd totally wear that dress. She looked fabulous even if it's not a style I enjoy.

I'd like to know too. The Nolan brothers are have provided some of the best writing, directing, and overall content of the last 15+ years in film and television. A few nominations at major award shows, and some wins at lesser award shows, and yet they still don't get the recognition that many, including me, think they deserve.

I wonder if he just keeps coming up in years with stiffer competition than others? I loved Dunkirk, a ton, but I didn't think this was a "he was robbed" type of deal.

I don't get into the thread on the night of, since I'm MST and on delay. But will say we have seen a lot of the nominated movies. Thank you, MoviePass! Shape of Water and Three Billboards were very different and both very, very good. Waiting for I Tonya and The Post to get here, and haven't seen Lady Bird yet but it's on the agenda for this week.

I would have chosen any of the other four dramas over Handmaid's Tale. GOT tying with The Crown. Tried to watch HT and had a dread of it by the 4th episode. Enough doom and gloom in real life, don't need it for entertainment.

Greta Gerwig should have been nominated for Best Director. Her film won Best Comedy category, so it's a no brainer.

And you know what, they could have nominated Wonder Woman for something!

I was also wondering why Michael did not go out with him.

Probably because they were there to celebrate women more than men. I heard this morning that the SAG Awards will have all women presenters. And for the first time, it has a host - a female host: Kristen Bell.

Also CZJ has a new movie coming out. So they helped her promote it by having her there.

Streisand was amazing in Funny Girl. I like my classics though.

:scratchin I think my favorite Streisand musical is "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever." It has some interesting reincarnation/time travel elements. :teleport:

   How can you be on a time delay? The show was live on both coasts and streaming on the Internet? So why would it be delayed in MST?

I think Handmaid's Tale was chosen over the others due to it's theme, the oppression of women and a sector of society. It's very fitting considering the women's movement going on now.

Michael should have been out there with his dad plain and simple.
That's stupid. Why all women dumb in my opinion. That just enforce in my opinion that all men are evil the very thought that Natalie Portman was trying to get out in her speech. Is that the image that Hollywood wants men are bad

I'm just really getting tired of the PC platform that these award ceremonies have turned into. I don't care about any of that or what these people think about it. I just want jokes, entertainment, and see who gets recognized for their hard work.

Exactly. When Babs was talking about how there have been no other women who've won as Director since her, I thought, "Didn't Kathryn Bigelow win for Zero Dark Thirty?" As a NYer, that movie is near & dear to my heart. I thought she handled the death of Bin Laden very well. Not sensationalizing it in such a way that it would have inflamed our enemies even more, if that's possible. She was nominated for a GG and other awards, so she was definitely recognized for her work. I don't think she didn't win because she was a woman. Argo & Ben Affleck won that year, an equally good movie.

All women presenters? Not thrilled with that.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm in MST and didn't have a delay.

Bigelow never won a GG. She did win AAs for direction and best pic for The Hurt Locker.

Sorry, didn't say that right. It started at 7 here, did it start at 9 on the East coast? I just assumed it was the usual scheduling.

No, Red carpet was at 6pm on the east coast or 3pm west coast.
The award show started at 8pm on the east coast or 5pm west coast.

Did it just start at a weird time for you? I can understand west coasters tuning in at 3pm for the red carpet really cuts their day up. :headache:

It started at 6pm here in Denver. NBC coverage of the red carpet started at 5pm.
