The Official Clay Aiken Discussion Thread

:confused3 Wow, Brandie.

I'm not replying to that thread now in hopes that it'll die out to the pages too far down for anyone else to stir anything up, but if it pops up again tomorrow, I'm not sure how I'll get my wrath into words suitable for the DIS.

First of all, it royally ticks me off when people are just flat out wrong, but insist on commenting on topics they know nothing about. By ALL (and I do mean ALL) accounts, Clay has been an Idol success. Kelly is typically considered the top success story, but never does a second breath get uttered without mention of Clay. Even Idol knows it - he's been referred to more times this season than, I think, any other Idol contestant, including Kelly. To pretend he's just milking his "fifteen minutes" is absurd and ignorant.

Secondly, I have no problem with people who aren't Clay fans but I do have a problem with people who don't have two things:

1 - A decent reason to not like him, even if it's that he's just not your cup of tea. But it has to be a REAL reason, not something stupid and unfounded, like that he's gay or that he's egotistical or something that they read once or heard from a friend of a friend of a gossip hound.

OR (and this is more important)

2 - Respect for the fact that people DO like him. I can respect people that like music I don't listen to, but that doesn't mean I concede to listening to it too. And guess what? It hasn't killed me yet!

:furious: I can't even go on with my reasons cause I'm tired and it's a broken record that the "elitest" aren't going to listen to anyway, so I'm not going to waste my typing. HOWEVER....

Brandie, I'm so sorry that someone personally attacked you in that thread, and you can bet that if it's dragged to the top again, I'll go in there, voice MY peace in your support, and then notify the mods that it needs to be closed once and for all. It was totally uncalled for. Nothing you have ever posted has ever given the impression that you were anything more than NORMAL about Clay, and certainly not obsessed. And in addition to that, WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH YOUR MARRIAGE AND CHILD?

I don't get it, I really don't. Clay, of all things, is harmful to a functional family? It boggles. Apparently you have no right to go and voice your opinion in support of anything, cause it makes you unhealthily obsessed. Whereas arguing a topic that you DON'T like is completely acceptable.

Oh, and guys....I think we should make every effort not to drag that other thread to page 1, if possible. I'm sure we'd all like to go in there and straighten them out, but doing so will solve nothing, and it'll just drag it up there again.

And if shows up there again, Heaven help them. Cause I may have to pull out the big guns.

And by big guns, I mean I'll alert the Claymates (the REALLY obsessed ones) that there's some work to be done, and the little squad of Clay offenders in there won't know what him them. :hippie:

ahhh...thanks Kylene! I tried to ignore it...I really did...but when my marriage and our pending adoption was dragged into it...I just couldn't hold my tongue. :worried:

Unless I am personally attacked again, I will NOT be posting to that thread. Don't worry about calling in the psycho-obsessed claymate, Kylene...lol...they might frighten them...lol

"I adore the man's voice...I adore what he does for special needs children...I adore him."

It was this statement that made me think that Scarlett was a little obsessed with Clay. If that isn't the case, I misunderstood. I just thought "adore" wasn't a word I would use for anyone I didn't truly care for, like a family member.

Good luck with your Claymates!

Hey Brandie?

How's Baby Ella?

I was thinking of you guys, as my niecephew should be making an appearance very soon!! My friend is actually due on the 20th, so anytime between now and March 3rd (my birthday!). (This is the one who said from the day she told me they were expecting that she would try to cook it a little extra so that he or she is born on my birthday...the doc has told her that's the latest they'll allow her to go.) We're going out for a celebration lunch on Saturday...we've been friends for over 20 years, so this is the end of one era and the beginning of a new one!!

In other, CLAY news...well....there isn't anything, really.

But have you guys been watching Idol? I told my sister she's gonna owe me a dollar for every mention of Clay this season. She refused to take me up on it, cause she knows. I never thought I'd say it, but I was sick of hearing his name by the end of the show tonight!!

And what was WITH that guy who thought he WAS Clay?? :confused3

Don't call puppies adorable, gang - you'll be labeled as obsessed!!! :rotfl:

 It's not worth getting into semantics, Cookie. This is our thread, where we can "adore" and "love" and "be obsessed" all we want without the judgement of people who are skulking through life without such frivolities to lighten their moods. It must really suck to get too old for such things - I hope I never do.

That being said - YOUR man has been all over the place!! (Not to be confused with OUR man, mind you.) Were you watching him on Dancing with the Stars? And Martha? And the radio? Well, ok, not watching on the radio, but I've heard Copacabana twice in three days on regular stations, and that's weird.

Ok, threadjack over. Back to regularly scheduled Clay discussion. I hope there's news to report soon!! :goodvibes

By the way, y'all....

We've gotta be a little more vigilant about this thread!! I always find it by sorting by replies, and it used to always be on page 1. Well, it seems we're slacking a little, cause now we're towards the top of page 2. And, quite frankly, I'm lazy. So let's change that, lol.

Yup, I've seen all the appearances - check out my signature.

I'm obsessed, and SO DAMNED PROUD that I actually burst into tears when I heard the news - that Barry's album debuted at #1 this week - that hasn't happened to him in TWENTY NINE YEARS. So yeah, I'm happy for him. :goodvibes

My kids are going to have a rough week. I keep saying "Who's #1 this week? Is it Green Day? P. Diddy? DON'T THINK SO!!" :rotfl: :lmao:

OK, sorry - back to Clay. Barry's still using the "This is what Clay Aiken will look like in 30 years" line in his show. Makes me laugh every time. :)

I have this thread saved in my favorites - makes it much easier to find, even if pages have gone by since I last saved it.

What was up with that guy on AI last night? I told my DH that he slightly resembles what Clayton looked like...long before the Clay that we see today emerged. We just laughed and laughed about it as we watched him...I said "you know...if you want to pattern yourself after Clay...at least choose a look from post-AI!" :rotfl: :lmao:

That's awesome news for Mr. Manilow! But man...that guy can't dance...sorry Cookie...lol...I was cracking up watching him on Dancing with the Stars last week. But that doesn't matter...as long as he's having fun and his fans are entertained. :) ( please don't take that as an insult...lord knows I've had enough of that lately...lol)

Kylene...I suck at keeping up to date on Clay related news, but I'll do my best! :thumbsup2

Brandie, aren't you a little old to be insulting Barry? And, for that matter, I don't approve of you watching Dancing With The Stars. That's reserved for...um...another demographic, of which you are not a part of. ;)

Cookie, Barry needs a new line!! My mom is actually a Barry fan too (she gets much too giddy comparing him to clay, to which I just :sad2: ), but she was a little disappointed in his DwtS performance last week. Brandie's right though - I thought Clay was a poor dancer, but Barry made him look good!! :lmao:

In all seriousness though, maybe I'll get my mom Barry's new album for her birthday or something, cause I think she'd enjoy it. It's all covers, right? Love songs or something?

And as for the AI guy....yeah, that was my confusion too. I mean, I kept thinking, "Why does he think that being a cartoon version of Clay is the best way to endear himself to the judges?" :confused3 I mean, he even had some of Clay's old-school mannerisms down!! It was just....odd. :rolleyes1

It's ok to focus on family and friends and adore real people. Truly, it doesn't suck.

After being a member of these boards for 3 1/2 years, this is so sad...but this is the very first time that I am choosing to use the ignore feature here...:( Never thought I'd see the day...

Heaven forbid any of us be allowed to discuss Clay even here in own very own little thread...

There..I feel much better now!

You know, when I was little, like less than 8 years old, I used to tell my parents that I was gonna marry Barry Manilow someday! I had this huge poster on the back of my door and my dad got me his albums (eek!...not cd's)...and I just knew that I would marry him...lol...

and then I grow up (although some would beg to differ...lol) and I adore...no, wait...sorry...scratch that...I like Clay. It's kinda funny actually...lol.

But just to clarify...I don't worship the ground that Clay walks on...I don't want to leave my husband for Clay...and I certainly don't adore him.

*pretends not to see the post trying to continue the argument here*

Ok, wait, I can't pretend, I have to respond, and then I'm done. I think it's safe to say that we all adore the "real" people in our lives on a different level than we adore Clay.

Well, maybe not we all, cause I've been pretty smitten with Clay for a while. :lovestruc Surprisingly, allowing myself to focus a little bit on him hasn't hurt my career, my family, or my friends. And, to be honest, for me, it truly WOULD suck if I was disallowed from focusing my attention on anything outside of my "real" life. But that's me, and you are you, so we're entitled to different opinions.

Brandie, everytime I see your signature, I think your hubby looks like Carlos on Desperate Housewives...and that's not a bad thing. :thumbsup2

But, just so we're clear? If you decided you WERE going to leave your husband to pursue Clay, THEN we'd have a problem. ;)

Was Barry on Full House, by the way? Cause that's my early memory of him. Full House was my favorite show when I was little (um...ok, fine, I STILL love it...yep, I LOVE IT), and there was an episode of Stephanie singing "I Write the Songs" and doing the hula hoop. I just can't remember if he made a special appearance or was only there in spirit. :p

Hiya ladies :wave2: I just wanted to pop in and show my support :thumbsup2

I think it's just fine to like/adore/admire/whatever you want to call it. Believe me..I caught flack from my coworkers when his first album was released. I was the FIRST one in line here in Raleigh. My picture made it on the morning news and in the newspaper

I adore Clay like I adore my scrapbooking hobby. It's a getaway from everyday life where I'm stressed at work or at home b/c I have MORE laundry to do it.

P.S. The Clay lookalike was ANNOYING!! I was so glad when he finally went off screen..ick. I can't wait for the Hollywood sessions to start this evening!

:wave2: Hi Kristy!! Thanks for representing the rest of us in Raleigh!! :teeth:

Hey guys - looks like Clay wants to be our Valentine and thank us for the crud we've put up with because of him lately, lol. We've got some...drumroll please....

NEWS ABOUT THE ALBUM!!!

From the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, as reported to me by my friend, who found it...at...well, some Clay message board, I think the Clayboard. Anyways, the news is what's important, so here ya go!! Let's dance!!

EW
WHERE IS CLAY AIKEN'S NEW ALBUM?
Aiken became American Idol's best-selling loser - and its biggest pop star after Kelly Clarkson - when his 2003 debut, Measure of a Man, hit No. 1 in its first week. Not only that, but his 2004 Christmas album broke sales records and helped build one of the most obsessive followings this side of Jimmy Buffet. But after almost a year of anticipation, Claymates have been left mooning over old CDs, wondering when their Idol idol will unveil his follow-up. Well, according to an RCA spokesman, he'll be hitting the studio in March - with an eye toward a May release date - and is sorting through potential material now, which includes both original tunes and "los of covers."

**Note: I'd ignore the March date of going into the studio, since Clay has said plenty of times that the material is already recorded for the most part. If he is returning to the studio, I'd think it was for remixing or final touches and nothing more. YAY FOR MAY!!! :woohoo: **

Heeeeeeeeeeey ladies....this means....A SUMMER TOUR!!! :cheer2:
