*** The Official August 2019 thread ***

I am curious, does everyone go by the 20% tip standard at Disney? I ask because I work in food service, and 15 - 20 is pretty typical around here, but with the prices in Disney for table service being so inflated, I go back and forth as far as weather I feel that 20% is really warranted in Disney.

We tip roughly 20% when we do table service, but it really adds up, especially when you’re on the ddp. That’s why we prefer to do counter service as much as possible.

We did Storybook dining earlier this year. It was pricey of course, and we didn’t purchase any alcoholic beverages, but the tip alone was well over $40. The tip money alone would be a good dinner for the four of us at a counter service location.

I didn't tell DH about the resort change. I think I might keep it as a surprise and wait till we get to Magical Express desk for everyone to find out.

Surprises are great! You shouldnt tell them until as long as possible!

I surprised my husband once with a trip to see his mother. He thought we were going on a cruise (he needed to bring a passport, so thats all I could think of to make sure he had his passport with him) and our flight layover was in Miami, so the cruise made sense. He had no idea until we landed in Miami that we we were getting on another plane to go to his mother's!

Also about 4 -5 years ago, on a Disney trip, I didnt tell my daughter, then 11ish. I packed all the suitcases and hid them in my closet. Coincidentally, the night before she asked me to wake her up early because she wanted to look for something she wanted to bring to school (music teacher said they could bring CDs. All her teachers knew she was going. I was in communication with them all year and got some assignments for her). So I woke her up at 4am! She looked a bit confused, probably thinking she didnt mean 3 hours early! She did her normal routine, got dressed, brushed hair, came down for breakfast. By that time, all the luggage was in the front hall. Still tired, she asked me where I was going! I travel a bit for business, so it kind of made sense. I told her WE were going to DISNEY!!!! Then she said "No, really, where are you going?" I said, with excitement "DISNEY..WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!". Then she got mad, clearly tired "Stop...just tell me where you are going". I couldnt convince her until we got to the airport. Not the reaction I was expecting! Never surprised her again.

Anyone flying in on or around August 14th: Have your Magical Express tags arrived? I kind of feel like we had ours by this point before our other trips. Not worried because of past experience I know they can get them out quickly after a phone call. Just wondering at what point I should consider making a call.

I was planning on avoiding HS on 8/29 but I just read that Vader is going to be at launch bay instead of Kylo. He’s dd6’s favorite. We may have to make an appearance to see him before we go home on the 1st.

And so DD8 tells me yesterday that she just must eat at Ohana for breakfast this trip! LOL! So now I must start the dining search and stalking! 29 days until we arrive but I'll keep the search going even after we arrive. I know that ADR's often open up day of.

I noticed someone said he/she was planning on two sets of clothes per day due to August heat. We're planning the same, but instead of packing double the amounts of things, I'm planning of a little laundry during one of our long midday breaks. I doubt that Mickey will care if I wear the same shirt twice as long as I washed it, right? :) How are the rest of you dealing with this?

We pack light. Maybe a weeks worth of clothing for our three week trip.
My husband actually loves to do laundry on vacation. Yay for me!! :)

Touring plans reservation finder comes through!!! As I was scrolling here just moments ago, my text chimed and alerted me to an opening at Sci-Fi Dine In. Now we just have to be ready to tap in for our RnR fp right at the earliest moment, so we can ride and head over to our reservation 30 minutes later.

I've been debating doing a load or two of laundry. Not something I really want to do on vaca but it might be necessary.

I know. Laundry isn't my favorite thing to do, especially on vacation, but since we're already planning long midday breaks in the hottest part of the day, I might as well.

This is our first time visiting in August and I am also thinking of a shower and change of clothes before heading back to the parks in the evenings after a mid-day break. We only travel with a carry on but stay in SSR 1 bedroom so have a washer and dryer. I usually throw in a load of clothes during the break or overnight. We have also done a lot of traveling and are great at packing a ton of stuff into a carry on. We are there for 8 days.

I'm not planning for it but I may need to. We have a lot of afternoon downtime planned so I can always do it then. We are over-packers though.

Nice!
