*** The Official August 2019 thread ***

38 days until our trip!! Anyone start packing this early 🤣 I don’t have much to do this week so I’m going to start my packing list and ordering anything we need from Amazon.

So far on the list are portable fans, sunscreen, and ponchos. What are your other survive-Florida-in-August essentials?
I have started packing. We are 27 days away from our trip. I am making myself some shirts so I have packed those as well as a few other clothing items I won't need before the trip. I aso have packed a few things I've bought specifically for the trip: Sunscreen, hand wipes, and a few other necessities.

sunscreen because I am a red headed pasty white guy, so I burn to a crisp at the slightest hint of sunlight,

HaHa, hubby is pasty freckle covered red head as well. So sunscreen is a top priority for us too.

I have a couple of bags out with things we bought for the trip. Sunscreen, toiletries, some new shorts. And another one with costumes & our ears.

33 days for us and I’ve started putting a few things together. We’ve never been to Florida in August so I’m relying on the tips here to help prepare!

Ears and pin lanyards never got unpacked in Feb...well, I did have heart surgery in April and spent most of Feb & March in drs offices, so I'll make that my excuse!

Fans and cooling towels were ordered from Amazon, box of ponchos ready. Need to take DS sneaker shopping this week. Otherwise, I'll start packing in a few weeks.

I can sympathize with that. After a while, the freckles meld together enough that it kind of looks like a tan from a few feet away lol

I'm hoping that Disney releases additional hours this week on Friday and then I can finalize my plans.

We leave in 22 days. I finished purchasing everything we need except for any food/water/snacks. No early packing for me. I do better if I just pack everything at once. For all 5 of us. Because I don't trust anyone else, and I'm the one who will have to deal with anything forgotten anyway.

I need to go through my plans and delete any extra ADRs I have, buy H2O glow tickets and cancel either the garden dessert party or the Cruella dessert party for MNSSHP on 8/16. I need to stop my mail, arrange for my plants and for someone to check in on my house while we're gone. I need to buy all school supplies and fall sports supplies so I'm not struggling to get it done when we get home.

OMG I totally forgot about having to buy school supplies!!!! *****Explicitive here****** I'm glad someone mentioned it or we'd have been last minute shopping the week before school starts.

We have started school shopping but have to finish before we go as we come home 2 days before school starts.

We leave 3 weeks from Thursday! I'm so excited. We just got back from our mini 4 day trip to Great Wolf and King's Island and said as hot as it was we were definitely in "Disney Training". DS finishes up baseball this week with tournaments next weekend the DD is back to dance this week. With all of this have to school shop as well since move in night for DS is the night we return (we land at 3:30 pm that Monday and then have to be to school anytime between 5-7!) I admit a little jealousy of those starting after Labor Day - the 14th just seems too early to start, especially with the horrible rainy cold weather we had here all through June, feels like they haven't had much of a summer. Hoping the next few weeks here are good here so they can get some swimming in. The next few weeks are going to fly by until we get there - then hoping vacation goes slow :)

We also decided since we have an extra day, our first full day we are going to try a day at Sea World for a new adventure so I'm looking forward to that to!

We're going early Aug bc both of my kids are moving up this year (middle and high school). So we'll have some time to do orientation stuff when we get back.

It's definitely a first time mom mistake. It didn't occur to me that I needed to worry about anything happening at the school before the first day. Oh well.

I don't bother with fans, misters, ponchos etc. For the most part, I find that they are a cumbersome pain in the neck to carry around in the park, and only of limited usefulness. If I am overly hot, I will walk through a store, see a show, or sit down at a quick service for a leisurely drink. If it is raining hard enough to keep me from just soldiering on through it, then I'll find shelter somewhere, see a show, do some shopping, have a drink, just like I do when I need a break from the heat. That pretty much covers how I deal with the August weather.

I like the way you think. I hate the idea of carrying around a ton of stuff.

Ah, The joys of having all my kids out of school (my "baby" graduated high school in May). Since we keep a stash of spiral notebooks and pens, we are all set for him to start college in August though. Although as soon as we get back I will be in full Wedding mode since our daughter is getting married November 1st. They have chose to have a low key wedding though so its been so easy. Our oldest son got married in January so we have two leaving the nest in one year.

Congrats!

At least you have a good excuse. I opened a suitcase last week and found a couple of items from our November Disney cruise. Oops!

I need to buy all school supplies and fall sports supplies so I'm not struggling to get it done when we get home.

Our school sent messages that we don't have to buy supplies this year. o_O My daughter was disappointed but I told her she can still pick out a new lunch bag and backpack. Not sure why we don't have to buy supplies since every year not only do I buy the requested supplies but they ask if you can donate more to the class. Maybe they received some extra state funding this year. Whatever it is, I'm excited that I don't have to get them this year.

I do have to get fall sports supplies and dance stuff. So thank you for reminding me about that.

I feel like I'm almost living the same life. We just got back from a 4 day trip (down the shore) and DD starts dance again this week. Luckily DS finished baseball last week and has off for the month of July. Well he may be playing in a sandlot league once a week if I can figure out the logistics of getting him there and back on a dance night. I wish I could have talked DD out of summer dance classes. I could use a month off of running around.

Have fun wedding planning!

We spent some time doing the boardwalk and amusements piers down the shore. I commented to DH that it felt like we did more walking there than we do in Disney. It's weird because we do a ton of walking in Disney but we usually enjoy it. Not the kids but DH and I do. It was pretty hot while we were away but I don't think it was anywhere close to Disney hot.

Congrats, we are also wedding planning! Our daughter is getting married Sept 14. First one of our 4 kids to get married and so far all is coming together. Happy planning!
