38 days until our trip!! Anyone start packing this early 🤣 I don’t have much to do this week so I’m going to start my packing list and ordering anything we need from Amazon.

So far on the list are portable fans, sunscreen, and ponchos. What are your other survive-Florida-in-August essentials?

38 days until our trip!! Anyone start packing this early 🤣 I don’t have much to do this week so I’m going to start my packing list and ordering anything we need from Amazon.

So far on the list are portable fans, sunscreen, and ponchos. What are your other survive-Florida-in-August essentials?

Yup, been packing bits and pieces for a couple of weeks now, we are at 30 days. My main survival requirements for Florida in August is flavoring for the water so I can tolerate the taste of it (I use the WalMart house brand of sweet tea flavoring), sunscreen because I am a red headed pasty white guy, so I burn to a crisp at the slightest hint of sunlight, and a wide brimmed hat for the same reason, and because I sweat a lot, and am not a fan of sunscreen running off my face into my eyes and mouth, so the hat gives me good protection for my face, neck, and scalp. Beyond that, a water proof pouch for my phone, because even though it is water resistant, I like insurance, and pocket sized (travel sized) deodorants for the mid day touch up.

Also high on the packing list for me, paperwork that I might need, like the stuff for the DIS Pandora party, and the documentation for my Villa rental, my GPS because no way am I paying what the Hertz wants for one, my fuel rod to keep my phone charged in the parks, our ticket media, my Disney gift cards, and my cash. These are things that are easy enough to leave behind, so I pack them in one of the bags ahead of time, that way I know day of, even if I forget to load things into my pockets, they are packed and will make the trip with us.

I don't bother with fans, misters, ponchos etc. For the most part, I find that they are a cumbersome pain in the neck to carry around in the park, and only of limited usefulness. If I am overly hot, I will walk through a store, see a show, or sit down at a quick service for a leisurely drink. If it is raining hard enough to keep me from just soldiering on through it, then I'll find shelter somewhere, see a show, do some shopping, have a drink, just like I do when I need a break from the heat. That pretty much covers how I deal with the August weather.

Before I pack my GPS, I always make certain that I have updated the maps, which I just did last week. I also count my daily medicine, and make sure that I have at least enough to do me for a week after we are supposed to get home, that way I am covered if there are any issues. This is also the time when I contact my bank, and put in travel plans with them so that they don't lock my credit or debit cards while I am on vacation, and I make sure that I have paid any bills that will be due while we are gone, or shortly after we get back.
