*** The Official August 2019 thread ***

I like the Disney gift cards for a couple of reasons. First off, you can buy them ahead of time, and that money is then locked into the Disney vacation, you can't repurpose it. Second, you can get the gift cards at a discount, so you get a bit more bang for your buck. Third, since it is so easy to manage them via the website, you can combine smaller cards together, but more importantly, if you keep an empty card or two in your party, heaven forbid the card with the money on it gets lost, you can quickly, and easily, right from your phone or tablet, transfer the remaining balance from it to an empty card, and be on your way. Thankfully, I've never had to do that, but it is great to know that if you drop it, or someone manages to swipe it from you, as long as you notice it quickly, you can get all the money back off it.

For that purpose, both my wife and my son carry an empty card, which is already in the Disney gift card management account, and nick named so I can quickly transfer funds if need be. This, I think, is the single best reason to use the Disney gift cards, and it is why we pay for the bulk of our dining, gifts / souvenirs, drinks, and what ever else we do on property with the gift cards.

That reminds me I wanted to combine our GCs so we didn't have to carry around so many of them. Although I do have them labeled so I will know which ones we needed to make sure we had with us each day in case I forgot to combine them. I can do that while waiting on DD to get home from work.

I also just now remembered to bookmark the laundry view on my phone so when I do a load of laundry I won't have to do that then. Plus I can see if washer and dryers are available and not have to make a wasted trip if the washers are all full.

Boarding passes are printed (A-31 and A-32), carry on bag ready, purse swapped to my Disney cross-body, suitcase weighed, pullover that packs into it's own pocket pouch is in carry on (to have to use on the plane because I am cold natured), and money/gift cards split between hubby and I so one person doesn't have it all just in case.

Other than putting on ME tags, condensing GCs and packing hubby's C-Pap, what last minute thing am I forgetting? I'm sure I'm forgetting something but anything I forget at home I can just buy there. I'm just worried we wont have room for souvenirs :rotfl2:Of course I don't plan to buy much but my son did request a new goofy hat and DD requested a mickey shaped rice krispy treat.

I had a feeling. Ive seen a ton of last minute booking for the AP Star Wars event. I didnt think it would effect anything until around the 15th, but its also Gay Days week of the 12th, so I exect crowds to be high.
This is why I have zero faith in crowd calendars. When easywdw stopped doing them I stopped looking at them.

I have finalized my "pile" to pack. No woman is bringing pants right ?? !! I have 3 capris and 2 dresses (doing laundry between off site and on site). Feels weird not one pair of pants or even a sweatshirt (though do have a lightweight sweater for dinner if the AC is too cold)

Now on to DDs pile. This will be tough because I love all her "good" clothes and want to bring everything! Last night I was at Walmart picking up Tide Pods and After Sun lotion. I walked past the craft section and saw adorable Disney buttons. So tempting to buy them and rip off all the buttons of all her clothes and sew these on . Luckily there is no time for that. If I had seen them a couple of weeks ago I would have done it for sure!!

  • Also super pumped to try Storybook Dining and finally, after many failures, we get to eat at Beaches and Cream - thanks to the cancelled refurb.
We did this a few weeks ago and it was awesome! I hope you love it as much as we did. It is definitely worth the time and money, one of the best dining experiences we have had, the food, service and characters were amazing.

Put your MagicBands in an easily reached place so that you can slip them on before you get to the Magical Express. :) We always put them on in the airport monorail.

Which one - Storybook Dining or Beaches and Cream?
We stay at the Beach Club at least twice a year and we never eat at Beaches and Cream. Go figure! :)
And we are staying at the Wilderness Lodge in three weeks and have considered trying to get a reservation at Storybook Dining.

4 days to go! Haven't packed a thing!

You would think I would have this down to a science after doing this every year. I need a checklist of some sort! lol

I'm not bringing pants. Which is highly unusual for me. I figure capris will be just as good as pants, they are just missing some inches. I haven't thought about bringing a light sweater but I will probably need one. I always do. I just hate lugging that stuff around.

I won't be bringing pants (slacks) for an August trip. My favorite is a skort. They are super comfy. I have a pair of shorts to bring, too, but I know I won't wear them too much. And I have one summer dress. :)

I am bringing my lightweight, pack-able in a little pouch, rain jacket. I will probably have something very lightweight for air conditioning in airports, airplanes and restaurants. but August is so hot there won't be many times I would need it.

This is a fun group to plan with. :)

I do have a checklist I save to my drive-I then customize for whatever trip we take, with separate lists for the kids when they come with us. mine are older so I give it to them a couple weeks before a long trip to ensure they have everything they need. Works great-had everything we needed when we took kids to Universal and a cruise (their first cruise) in June. Took me awhile to get it set up but now it's super easy to customize each trip.
I'm so glad you said this. I ordered a few skorts for the trip. They were supposed to get delivered today but it looks like it got moved back to Monday. I'm anxious to try them on.
I love my RBX skort!! In fact I really want to order another one.

I never pay attention to crowd calendars. I use these simple rules:
- avoid a park that has extra magic morning hours
- in addition to that - avoid Magic Kingdom when it has late night hours, and Saturdays and Mondays
- don't try to watch fireworks or evening shows at a park that has extra magic evening hours

We like to go to MK on Sunday mornings and the mornings after a party, like the morning after MNSSHP or MVMCP.

But sometimes you just have to go when it is crowded.
