*** The Official August 2019 thread ***

I remember getting flooded out at MK near Carousel of Progress during the only August trip we took with our kids. I was surprised that it flooded that quickly. They need better drainage. :)

WE hid under the train tracks by Splash way back when it first opened because the lightning was severe. Unfortunately, the water started to rise quickly, a CM came flying over to move us all to higher shelter. Thinking back - it was likely where the playground is now.

We have hidden there in the rain, never had it flood on us though.

One week from today, we will likely just be getting out of bed, after a late night at the villains party the night before. Plans for the day include shopping outside of Disney, and going to the car cruise at Old Town.

I've been buying Disney gift cards at Target to pay for our room and food for our trip. I buy a few at a time since I can walk over to the store on my lunch hour. Then I bring them back to the office and enter them into my Disney gift card account. Usually I keep the emptied cards in my desk drawer but on this particular day, I thought I had entered all the cards I bought, but I found out the next day that I missed one. I had thrown a $50 gift card away and it was gone forever. I contacted Disney through the gift card site and told them what I had done. They got back to me and told me to email a copy of the Target receipt to them. I received a really cute $50 gift card in the mail yesterday. Thank goodness Disney was able to replace my gift card. I was really glad that they could do that. :)

Three weeks from today will be my first day of retirement. I have been waiting for this since I told my boss that I planned to retire back in May. I just hope my replacement shows up as scheduled. ;)

I purchased a room/dining package from Disney; but this right here is the reason I'm considering using gift cards for at least some of our spending money. Another thing I have read is to take a photo of the back of the card to go along with a photo of the receipt. I'm glad they replaced your card.

Congrats on your retirement. So glad Disney replaced the GC for you.

Oh man, I just got an email update on the crowd calendar. Our Magic Kingdom days jumped from 4 to 7, and a 2 to a 5!

I got an email this morning as well. One of our MK days jumped from a 2 to a 5. Usually we're experiencing 6 or 7 though so we're used to it. Maybe has to do with the hours going back to the 10pm closing.

Two weeks from now, we'll be headed for a ride on Soarin' (we have a fast pass). My email update predicts low crowds at Epcot. Hoping to hit the Land pavilion, Seas Pavilion, the Character Spot and make it around World Showcase. It would be the first time making it all the way around. One year we were literally 3 countries from the end when my daughter declared she was done.

One week from now we will be getting ready to check in for our 10:40 FP for FOP. It's our second FP for FOP but this will be our last park day so we will be making the most of our day.

On a side note, with the exception of attaching our ME luggage tags I am ready to go. Hubby will have to pack up his C-PAP machine when he gets home and a few last minute things and then he will be ready to go. We own't leave until DD gets home from work though. She should be home around 4:00-4:30. Then we will give last minute instructions (like don't forget garbage day, don't let dirty dishes pile up, do your laundry so I don't have to when I get back, etc). Then we will head out to Nashville. All we have planned to do is grab supper then just hand at the hotel for the night. I didn'tsleep well last night. I'm a terrible sleeper anyways but last night was worse than normal. It wasn't even trip related either. I just tossed and turned for some reason. Ugh, I hope it's not that bad tonight since we have to be up early tomorrow.

Friday edition: 2 weeks from today we will be on a plane about to land in Orlando (hopefully! without delays). One advantage of deciding last minute to go is no long waiting time!
OTOH-booked for HHN at Universal last December and it seems it took F-o-r-e-v-e-r to get to this point! 47 days to that trip.

Oh my are you right! We experienced that during our recent May trip. It was SOO deep! We were let out of Carousel of Progress while it was still raining and we just waited there under the roof until it let up enough to move.

The WS is really big and a ton of walking. We tend to do it over multiple days but we have park hoppers so it works for us.

I'm a horrible sleeper too. Really bad when not sleeping at home. I take Calm sometimes and helps. I usually only take it during my busy season at work or when I haven't gotten a decent sleep for days.

Have a great trip!

I like the Disney gift cards for a couple of reasons. First off, you can buy them ahead of time, and that money is then locked into the Disney vacation, you can't repurpose it. Second, you can get the gift cards at a discount, so you get a bit more bang for your buck. Third, since it is so easy to manage them via the website, you can combine smaller cards together, but more importantly, if you keep an empty card or two in your party, heaven forbid the card with the money on it gets lost, you can quickly, and easily, right from your phone or tablet, transfer the remaining balance from it to an empty card, and be on your way. Thankfully, I've never had to do that, but it is great to know that if you drop it, or someone manages to swipe it from you, as long as you notice it quickly, you can get all the money back off it.

For that purpose, both my wife and my son carry an empty card, which is already in the Disney gift card management account, and nick named so I can quickly transfer funds if need be. This, I think, is the single best reason to use the Disney gift cards, and it is why we pay for the bulk of our dining, gifts / souvenirs, drinks, and what ever else we do on property with the gift cards.

That is what I do. I have the funds loaded onto several different gift cards in my Disney Gift card account and transfer funds as needed so that I am not walking around with all of my funds on one card. :) And I have two cute gift cards that are not the standard Mickey picture that you buy for $50 in the store or the $100 card. That makes it easy to keep track of which card I am using.

This was in the days before the two track system and before there was the playground and gift store. It may have been the opening of Splash in the 90s.

I had a feeling. Ive seen a ton of last minute booking for the AP Star Wars event. I didnt think it would effect anything until around the 15th, but its also Gay Days week of the 12th, so I expect crowds to be high.
