To All - Midori & I will be out of town this weekend so I am posting the questions tonight..

Have a great weekend



1. Do you need to purchase new suitcases, new totes or travel bags this year?

No - got the last of everything we needed a few months ago

2. Have you started packing?

Not exactly but I have gathered some items together that are specifically for our vacation

3. If you are flying, have you made transportation arrangements to get to the airport and back home?

Driving

4. If you have pets, have you made arrangements?

No pets

5. Do you stop your mail service while on Vacation?

No

6. Have you arranged for some to stay at your house or look in on your house? Is your security system up to date and in good working order?

Yes, my sister and/or my father in law will come everyday to check in and reset the alarm etc.

7. Be sure to call your bank and credit card companies, letting them know you are traveling.

I will do it the week before we go

8. Be sure to take your health insurance card.

Travel insurance will have to suffice

9. If you are leaving your car at the airport, be sure to check your tires, battery and leave an extra set of keys with a relative or close friend.

Questions of the Day – Preparing to leave on vacation

1. Do you need to purchase new suitcases, new totes or travel bags this year?

We splurged on new luggage as Christmas presents (lightweight Nautica grey bags with orange stripes) in anticipation of this trip and to replace our old suitcases with broken wheels and zippers.

2. Have you started packing?

This is late for us- we usually have a bag out months in advance. But now we have cats and we can't keep them out of the open suitcases.

Plus, it is hard to pack for a summer trip when you need the same shorts and t-shirts at home and on vacation. Although I have to say this spring in New England we have NOT had much shorts weather.

3. If you are flying, have you made transportation arrangements to get to the airport and back home?

Just did last weekend, then discovered on Tuesday that our flights have been changed to a 2 hour earlier departure, so I have to change our reservation. We booked DK Livery/Lanskey transport based on recommendations on the DL subforum.

4. If you have pets, have you made arrangements?

Yes, our next door neighbor takes care of the cats, fish and gerbils. She also "watches" the pool while we are gone, which is the reward for watching the critters.

5. Do you stop your mail service while on Vacation?

No- see comment about helpful neighbor.


6. Have you arranged for some to stay at your house or look in on your house? Is your security system up to date and in good working order?

Yes. I hope everyone is answering this question that your security system is up-to-date, even if you don't have one!

We also have a backup system- our very helpful, vigilant neighbor- who keeps a close watch on our house from the pool area.


7. Be sure to call your bank and credit card companies, letting them know you are traveling.

8. Be sure to take your health insurance card.

I think roger has been in the big thunder ranch area since Easter time. Not sure how long he will stay around. I'm also curious as Thumper is back there too and my DS4 is obsessed with him right now. I'm hoping if they've been around since April, they will still be around in July. Brer Rabbit is also back there.

1. Do you need to purchase new suitcases, new totes or travel bags this year? Yes, but that was because it's a six day trip including LA.

2. Have you started packing?
No, but putting things with my luggage to ensure they get packed.

3. If you are flying, have you made transportation arrangements to get to the airport and back home?
Yes, Going by Train and Taxi to train station.

4. If you have pets, have you made arrangements?
No pets due to Landlord's rules.

5. Do you stop your mail service while on Vacation?
No, because I live in an apartment.

6. Have you arranged for some to stay at your house or look in on your house? Is your security system up to date and in good working order?
In an apartment, so I don't need to do that.

7. Be sure to call your bank and credit card companies, letting them know you are traveling. Thanks for the reminder on this because I will likely forget.

8. Be sure to take your health insurance card. Always in my wallet.

We're doing Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique for our 7 yo granddaughter. Decided to go all out and do the Castle package. She's only 7 once! Been showing her pictures. She's really excited!

Talk about Disney dreaming, anybody have any Disney dreams yet?
I had a dream that I forgot about until I saw the White Rabbit posted at DIS last week... In my dream I finally caught up with him.
And then a couple of nights ago I had a dream about being close to the Disney railroad train and spotting Olaf. I was telling my 14DD that he's over there , but when she looked he was gone. And then when Ii turned my head she was off after him but she had turned into a four year old.

Yes, I plan to do a lot of character stalking!

Well, my 12 year old daughter discovered Disneybound modern twists on character fashion on Pinterest so we spent the weekend shopping for the perfect outfits! She has put together outfits for Snow White, Mr. Smee, Boo, Haunted Mansion, and Ferb. She also put together a Sulley outfit for me to wear when she's Boo. What fun raising a fashionista!

Hello and welcome to all the new members of the July Disers! This is the best group...tons of fun!!

1. Do you need to purchase new suitcases, new totes or travel bags this year?
Yes, I need two suitcases for the boys...our old ones are really beat up. Been trying to find a good deal without breaking the bank!
2. Have you started packing? Not yet, but getting all the new summer clothes bought and making everyone put them aside in their closets for the trip.
3. If you are flying, have you made transportation arrangements to get to the airport and back home? We will be driving to the airport (about 35 minutes) and leaving the car in extended parking.
4. If you have pets, have you made arrangements? We have four cats and I've narrowed down my choice of sitters to two friends...gotta get this set up this week!
5. Do you stop your mail service while on Vacation? No, our mail goes to a PO Box.
6. Have you arranged for some to stay at your house or look in on your house? Is your security system up to date and in good working order? All is good with security and the cat sitter will make sure all is well when she comes by.
Thanks for the tips about the bank notification! Very good idea.

Oh, and now that I can finally post pics...here's my happy DisFamily from our last trip to DLR four years ago. The boys are about 3-4 inches taller now!

Cali girl, have you looked into dakine bags? They have wonderful duffle bags that aren't too pricey. I got my boys on amazon. There's no wheels on the one we got but it's pretty big and made well. They make tons of different styles. Just a thought

Here's a pic of my husband and I our last trip to DLR/DCA in 2008. It was his first time. We posed in this area because we lived on the Monterey Peninsula where this area is modeled after.

And since my son has never been to Disney, here is a picture from last summer when we went to California's Legoland.

For those that are interested or keeping track of my ankle drama, I had my appointment with the orthopedic surgeon this morning. He said no surgery and that I could start physio and weight bearing.

We talked to him about our trip. He said that I might not make it from an hour before opening at the gates to fireworks but he didn't recommend canceling (wouldn't happen anyway, dude). So at least I am feeling positive about it and hope physio can get me on the right track. I have to wait until the 10th to start.
