*** The Official 2014 - DLR -July Thread ***(We All Have Been There & Back Home)

Hello, Massachusetts neighbor! We are on the north shore.

Hope everyone doesn't mind me jacking this thread and making a comment about Disney themed weddings- have you seen the trip report by missyrose and pixeldust (Wait, Where's Your Wedding Ring?)- They were married in October and part of their honeymoon was at WDW- they shared some of the Disney details of their wedding in the trip report.

Check it out if you are so inclined

Good Morning to all! I think my kids would say the corn dog castle! My favorite is the soup in a bread bowl from the Harbour Gallery. YUM!

Corn dogs from the little red wagon on Main Street!!! We always have corn dogs at least once a trip. So good. We also like corn dog castle. Want to try the cheese dog there next trip :)

I tried the cheese dog at the Corn Dog Castle in California Adventure. Was all excited and yea....it was literally a hunk of cheese, on a stick battered and deep fried. It was good, but when I was expecting a hotdog in the middle it wasn't quite what I had in mind, lol.

Hi Everyone! I'd like to jump in and join your thread.:) I'm a Disneyland veteran, and love all things Disney. I grew up in L.A. and went to Disneyland every year as a child. I've been in the Dallas, TX area now for 30 years and miss being able to go as much as I used to. Myself, DH, DS 17 and DS 11 will be taking a much needed Cali/Disneyland vacation July 18-26! Our last trip to Disneyland was in June, 2010. We're all super excited!! :yay: Here's our early planning stage itinerary:
July 18 - Arrive LAX about 8:00 a.m. and driving up to Paso Robles to visit family.
July 19 - 21 - Hang with family and visit Monterey Bay Aquarium, Carmel, 17-mile Drive.
July 22 - Long but beautiful drive down to Anaheim along the coast.
July 23 - 25 - Three day park hoppers (still lots to plan for our time in the parks)
July 26 - Breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen and fly back home. :(
Once in Anaheim, we're staying at HOJO, which I really love. We stayed there on our last trip! :cheer2:

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! It looks like there are a few TX families going in July...super cool!! :cool1:

DH and I have been to Monterey and the Aquarium, but the boys have never been. We love that area of Cali and can't wait to share it with them. Your pics are great, and your daughter is a cutie!

It's gonna be one crazy-packed week of fun...thank goodness I've planned two days to recover at home before heading back to work!

We're looking forward to establishing our own DL snack faves. At WDW we like:

Me: strawberry-banana smoothie at Auntie Gravity's in Tomorrowland. I usually enjoy it while DW and DD drive the Tomorrowland Speedway.

DW: funnel cake at Sleepy Hollow just before fireworks.

DD: cotton candy from the Confectionery. We get a bag on the way out and it's usually half gone by the time we get back to the hotel!

My favourite snack always used to be the chocolate-dipped frozen bananas on a stick. Does anyone know if they still sell those? I hope they do.

We'll be there in July! My SIL recently emailed me asking for advice on their trip to Disneyland (y'know, 'cause I've been there once in my life...) and my husband suggested we tag along!

Here's our "plan" and our crew:

July 8-12 at Best Western Park Place Inn
4 day park hoppers (4 day for the price of 3 day on Orbitz and I used ebates)
So we'll go to the park the afternoon of July 8 and as close to "all day" as possible the 9, 10, and 11 (11th is DH's birthday)

Myself, DH, DD15, DD13
MIL, SIL, DN 13, DN 12

We are heading home July 12, but the other four are in CA until the 14th.

I doubt we'll have any fancy meals. I'm actually just hoping to convince the other 4 that it's OK to splurge on eating in the park and not just pack sandwiches....

Our only must-dos---Emma (15) MUST have her picture taken with Rapunzel and Audrey (13) MUST have a cream cheese pretzel (we told her she could have one last time we were there near the end of our trip and never found them....). Other than that we're there to ride the rides, see the shows, and have a lot of fun.

I'm worried about crowds, heat (glad to hear there's little humidity), and family dynamics. My poor husband may be worried about estrogen levels as the only male in our group! SIL has MS so we may be renting a wheelchair for her. Or maybe she'll go on longer breaks at the hotel. We'll take her lead on this.

Question of the Week: nothing really stood out for me, but I was craving popcorn one night and the booth only sold black pepper popcorn. I'm hooked! Pepper on my popcorn and French fries all the time now! Not sure we ever ate a corn dog while we were there, but had a funny encounter on our way home from Fiji that involved a drunk man and his disappointment in not getting to Disneyland in time to get a corn dog. I think we're all now convinced that we need to get a corn dog this time. (we'll just leave out the expletive when we order it....)

Yeah, you'll regret that I showed up on this thread. I'm a little wordy.....

Great Favorites - :thumbsup2

Hi, everyone! I just booked a 5-years-in-the-making return trip to DLR. Very excited but apprehensive about crowds as this is our first peak season visit to any Disney park. Touring Plans listed our week as 5s and 6s, hope that is true! I have much to research...cheapest current tix, best way to see WOC, etc. Best get crackin'! :)

I know the food isn't spectacular, but we love the Hungry Bear! There's just something about the atmosphere and sitting by water. We always enjoy telling stories about past Disney visit while we relax in the shade.

Thanks, you too! I see you are driving up to Monterrey. We drove the coast to SF on our last Cali trip and our boys loved it. They still talk about the aquarium.
