~*~The OFFICIAL 2014 Dates Thread - Come Join Us!~*~

yes - pulled back the sheets and sprayed and they started to crawl out. I have to say I was surprised that it worked so good and now I have a new hotel ritual.

Just plain Lysol? I wonder if spraying the outside of our suitcases would repel them on the plane. That's my new fear. I can inspect a room, I can't inspect the luggage of every person traveling that day. I should see if there's any rule that says I can't put our checked baggage in big clear plastic bags. I know they might have to open it for screening but they might not.

I so feel bad for them, November was the 1 year anniversary of her husband's death and the trip was supposed to be a way to help keep the girls distracted and keep them all from sitting at home getting depressed. This was so not what they bargained for.

One of the things that keeps popping up in my searching is lavender oil. Apparently it won't kill them but it might repel them for a short period of time. So lavender oil spray on the outside of the suitcase before we go and before we come back, lysol and inspection in the room, clothes and soft things in ziplocks in the suitcase and leave the suitcases outside for a few days when we get back (it's February in Canada, if that doesn't kill the little buggers I don't know what would). Possibly overkill but after dealing with the flea infestation from you-know-where I take no chances. I miss the days when I didn't have to think about this kind of thing.

Yay, the WDTC UK has released their 2014 prices now. I've only checked approx prices though, as they're not releasing discounts or free dining until april. I guess I'll just have to be patient a little bit longer :hyper:

:lmao: I wondered what kind of reaction that was going to get!

My husband doesn't help much with choosing - he more or less says, "I don't like the looks of that one" and leaves me to figure out another option.

As far as the DDP, have you sat down and compared what your OOP cost would be in comparison yet? Make sure you do before you decide DDP is better because the math doesn't always work out. We're going to just buy gift cards for our next trip so everything is still "prepaid" and it's not cash in hand. I think that's way scarier, especially since lunch is usually $30 for the two of us.

;)

My DH tells me the same things! I'm always second guessing things... I figure it this way now- if he doesn't help he can't complain much! ;)

Yes it's plain Lysol (or maybe any disinfectant - I'm not sure). It doesn't kill them but there's something about it that when you spray it, it causes them to come out be visible so you know they're there - we do this now before unpacking anything when we first get to a room.
I've never personally had to deal with them but it sure doesn't sound like fun. Sorry they had to go thru this and make the trip less relaxing.

601 days left!:cheer2: (Hey, it's the little things.)

Now, if only we could agree on a resort. I'm torn between WL and the Poly. I really want to go back to the Poly because DD loves fireworks from the beach or lounge. DH really wants to go back to WL because he likes feeling like he is on vacation from his vacation. DD will be 4 at the time we go and if all goes as planned, we will be travelling with an infant as well.

My mom, stepdad and brother are just along for the ride. They will stay wherever we decide. They have only stayed at the Poly and GF.

:dance3::dance3:Well we have changed our dates. We are not going March 8-16. For the flower and garden festival. Its help my dh and I out a lot. For i just had surgary 2 weeks ago and have been otu of work for 3 weeks!! we are still staying at art of animation little mermaid room and still celebrating out anniversary!! Im sooooo excited to go for the flower and garden festival!!:dance3::dance3:

That would be a hard choice for me as well! Loved our stays at WL and Poly. If it were me in your situation I think I would pick Poly. With an infant it will be nice to have the larger rom for the pack and play and so nice to have the monorail right there. Any stroller is a pain to fold up but especially a double - you can just push it right in the monorail on your MK andEpcot days. And with your 4 year old it will be nice to have a zero entry pool ( I can't remember for sure but I didn't think WL was zero entry....)

Today DH let it slip at we were going to Orlando this summer...it's not a surprise trip but we were going to wait a little longer to tell them. Of course the first thing my oldest says is Disney world is in Orlando! We had to convince her that we really are NOT going to WDW this summer. But now that she knows maybe she can work on her daddy and convince him that we should at least go for one day lol!

We're in for 2014 as well! Right now it looks like April 10-18 (8 nights the week before Easter) staying at either the BWI or CR maybe w/ a split stay at POR for the 1st 2 nights just to bring the cost down a little. We love the BWI & POR and have never stayed at the CR. It'll be my husband & I and we'll be celebrating the fact that we are in DISNEY WORLD!! Only 13 months to go!

Have you been there the week before Easter before? That was our 2nd option to go since DD's spring break is the week before next year as opposed to after when it normally is and her b-day happens to fall in that week as well so DH was considering that as an option but the crowds make me nervous. I've seen that MK opens early every day that week so we'd loose out on our pre-opening entrance that we normally do with a BBB appt but I can handle that - just not sure if we should go then or stick with the 1st week in November.

Has anyone stayed at Port Orleans with 5 people? I think it is Riverside that has the trundle (not that we will really need it). How was it? I'm worried about space - DH thought the rooms at WL were too small, however we won't have a pack and play next time. It will be me, DH, and 3 DDs (who at the time will be 9, 5, and 3 and will more than likely all sleep in a queen bed together). I know there is a whole thread devoted to it but it is so overwhelming - just higher I would see what ppl here thought!

Just talked about it today and it looks like my Mom, sister, and I will be going to WDW in March 2014! That'll be my last semester of college and I asked for this to be my graduation present. I've been to WDW many times but my mom's only been once in the last 30 years and my sis has only been once when she was 11 (she'll be 15 at the time of the trip). I can't wait to show them what WDW is all about!

Hi Funfire240,

Our last 3 trips have been either the week before Easter-leaving the day before Easter or the week of Easter-arriving Good Friday and leaving the following Thursday and I have to say we did not mind the crowds AT ALL. We are however early risers and were always at the parks for opening. We would hit all the rides we wanted to hit with hardly any wait then leave the park after lunch when they got crowed to go back to our resort to swim or nap. If you have even a little bit of a game plan Disney at a busy time of year can still be very manageable and very enjoyable. Good luck with whatever you decide:)

Thanks for the input - the break in the afternoon sounds like it would help us out too if we decide that. Such decisions....
(Too much time given to me to plan - will see how much I end up changing things in the next year!)

:welcome: to the group! Once you get your dates figured out, just post them and I'll get you added to the list.

Unfortunately, MNSSHP dates for 2014 won't be released until into 2014. If you're planning to stay for a week, though, you'll likely have at least one or two party nights to choose from.

We're hoping to make it a full week, but if it ends up being only my sister and I then it may be only 4 days, so we really need to be careful. Until the dates are released I'll just sit back, join the conversation and live vicariously through those going to MNSSHP this year.:thumbsup2

Thank you for letting us know - I'll get the list updated. Hope you recover from your surgery quickly.

My brother and his family stayed in POR last year with 5. The only section that holds 5 is AB, the more rural, rustic looking part of POR. They thought it was crowded, but they had two teenage girls as part of the 5. They basically said never again with five in one room/one bathroom. YMMV.

Nothing is set in stone but the plan for now is March 18-23 at Pop.
