The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Ankle pain is getting worse. I am going to cry if I can't do this Saturday. I have spent the evening icing my ankle with my feet up.

so I ran 15 miles yesterday (This is in prep for the Full in Jan). Good news--my knee only slightly started hurting around mile 9. And not that bad! I had an MRI on it today. I debated not having it since it was feeling better but decided that I probably should.

Bad news--my Achilles is realllly acting up! (or what I think is the Achilles. It's not directly up the back of my calf...just slightly to the sides) It hurts just to walk around on it, although if I wear heels, it feels better! I'm thinking it might be the heel/toe drop in my shoes (although they have 200 miles on them and only bothered me one other time at the DL half). But I researched and they're quite a bit lower than the Brooks shoes I've worn.

I think I might go to the new Fit2 Run at DTD tomorrow to check out new shoes.

But does anyone have any advice for the Achilles? Anything I can do now to make it feel better--exercises, shoes advice, etc?

I had this exact same pain, kind of on both sides. I tried to ran through it and it got worse...I was limping around for weeks! Not what you want to hear I'm sure but rest is really the only thing that made it better. I tried ice, heat, heat patches, shoe inserts, etc. KT tape did help a lot - I used the application for bursitis. Hope you heal quickly! Once I stopped trying to force it, I felt 100% better in about 2 weeks and it hasn't bothered me a bit since then

Sending pixie dust.....

Hang in there. Stay off your feet as much as possible. You should be feeling better by Saturday. It's amazing what adrenaline will do as you get closer to the day.

I think it more related to the knee issue than shoes. But then, buying new gear always seems to help a little :)

Rest is the best thing I can offer. Roll the area to loosen up the knots will help speed up recovery. Do not run until the W&D to allow time for healing. You could try taping, but I find that Achilles insertion area issues are hard to solve with tape.

Good luck

I feel your pain...literally. Mine is now sort of the ankle and foot. I think part of it may be from the brace I am wearing so that has to go for a while I guess. Its so frustrating when you have been doing so well and had such high hopes for this and now its not looking so good.
Hang in there!

Last day of work today!! Cleaning for DMIL, packing and travel day tomorrow!!!!

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

While I enjoy having WDW in the front yard, I really do miss the travel experience; kind of.

Safe travels

Two more days of work plus one more run at home (which I'm now scared to do bc of all the recent injuries popping up on this thread) and SO much packing yet to finish! So different from last year- I still have to find all my race stuff (pins, body glide, iPod case), and last years had that stuff ready and out for weeks.

I'm so sorry to hear of everyone's pains. I wish you all speedy recoveries and also peace while u deal with the suffering and letdown of race week not going as hoped. I felt that was last year but fortunately, resting the whole week allowed me to be able to run on Saturday. Hope that works for at least some of you!

Coach- I hate packing. U r so lucky u don't have to. Then again, I'm so excited to stay at the boardwalk again- love that place!

Packing today, leaving tomorrow!! Super excited for obvious reasons but we are also surprising the kids with the trip to Disney! I told them they have to get out if school early tomorrow for a dentist appt, wait until we drive past the dentist straight to the airport!!!
Pixie dust to everyone injured and sick!!!
Melinda

Hope everyone who has injuries or soreness heals up in the next few days. We will be in the air on our way in 48 hours. Safe travels everyone!

Your kids are so lucky! What an exciting surprise!!

Hi Pluto- so crazy u had side stitches too. I hope my run tonight goes better. I am still trying to get up the energy to go. Thank goodness I roped DH into taking DS to school next week so I can start sleeping in and rearranging my body's rhythms! Thanks for the countdown!

Edit: I had to come back and edit this because only my wine and dine peeps would laugh too. I just finished my treadmill run for tonight and I ran it in a half darkened basement bc the lightbulb by the treadmill was burnt out. I pretended it was just "night race training". Lol!

:rotfl2: :lmao:

Dental visit done! Only minor panic attack required. I have to go back, but AFTER my trip to Disney.

Whew!!

The weather for race day looks better too!! It's a bit far out to tell but it's nice to see 0% chance of rain for November 9th!!

You would NOT believe the winds around here the last few days! It feels like a hurricane is on its way! :headache: No worries though for the Orlando area and the temps are looking AWESOME for show time! :woohoo: :yay:

I woke up w a scratchy throat! Ack!!!! Time to chug some OJ and try to take a nap... Packing will have to wait.

Packing's done (at least after tonight's last easy 3 miles) but now I have an earache!:scared1: An earache?! REALLY???!!! :scared1:[/QUOTE]

And a week from now it will all be over and we will all be wearing some Disney bling! :cheer2:

:cool1: :thumbsup2 :dance3: :cheer2: :yay:

Courage, determination and passion...

THOUGHT I had my playlist done...:goodvibes. I have to go back and add La Vida Loca anyway! :lmao:

Question: if I don't do the race, can I still get in to the after party with my bib? I'm super bummed about this situation, but I still want to go to the party!!! Thanks everyone!!

DH had to pull out last minute last year but carried his bib with him. He was able to get into both the runner's area and the afterparty with no problems. :thumbsup2

Does anyone remember where the 15k timing mat is? It's somewhere in DHS, but I can't remember where.

Like Coach said, right around Sunset Blvd. I think it was almost right after you entered the park after those awesome Lululemon signs. I seem to recall making a right turn either right before/after it.

Okay team, I know some of you are already here, or on your way. We'll be driving up Thursday afternoon but won't actually be checking into our hotel until Friday. I'm kind of hoping it won't be TOO warm that I can get away with wearing my WISH jacket to the expo, which I'm planning on getting to as soon as it opens. So if you see a short, funny looking blonde with a big, goofy, lovable bald guy, just come up and say hi! :wave2: It's almost time!!! WHOOP! WHOOP! :cheer2: :dance3: :yay: :woohoo: :rainbow::jumping1:

Oh and FYI, the runner tracking option is up and running! It says 2012 but it seems to be working. :cool1:

Hey Kim, can't find the link for runner tracking on the site. Please help. Thanks,

Cindy

I thought so too, but it has the 2013 runners info loaded. Just to make sure I put in the DH's name as he was going to run it last year but got sick, and it's not finding him. Plus it has my age correct for this year, so I think it's good to go.

You're right. I didn't run the race last year but my name's in there now to track. :) Thanks for posting the link!
