The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Hi everyone :-) So, my training was going all great and everything....but then I had to have gallbladder surgery in the end of August, and wasn't actually able to run at all again until a few weeks ago. I tried a 10 mile run last week, but it was pretty harsh and that's the longest run I have been able to do. Glad I did it though, as a lot of pains I had in my abdominal area while running are gone now! I really would like to try this race, as I have been wanting to for a long time....but I am afraid I will just get swept, as I really was out of commission for training. I just really want to get started training for the Minnie 10k and the Glass Slipper Challenge in January and February!! Those I won't miss!!!!!

Question: if I don't do the race, can I still get in to the after party with my bib? I'm super bummed about this situation, but I still want to go to the party!!! Thanks everyone!! :-)

I need some major encouragement. Please share your success stories in barely running in the three weeks leading up to a race. I ran a 10k two weeks ago, then a couple of great short runs. Unfortunately after that, I had some fever virus for 3 days, then the stomach flu for 2 and today I stumbled through a horrible four miles. Any chance Saturday won't be terrible for me? My longest training runs before that were two 9-milers and a 10-miler. Please tell me this fatigue is just my body in recovery from some poorly-timed illnesses.

I'm sorry you were so ill and had to have surgery!! Speedy recovery to you!

If you paid for entrance into the race, you can go to the expo and pick up your packet and should have no trouble going to the after party! You paid for it already so your entrance would not be denied. My husband and I went last year even though we were unable to run. (We had just been hit with Hurricane Sandy and after 10 days of no power and breathing in fire place air, my husband came down with pneumonia. :headache: I didn't want to run my first half without him so we opted not to run but still went to the after party. THIS year is our year!!!)

I hope you are feeling better and stronger every day!!:goodvibes

another poorly time illness sufferer here! Bronchitis smacked me down pretty hard. I have been unable to run much in the last couple of weeks. One of my runner friends had a similar thing happen and she was unable to complete training the way she wanted to. (training for the Nike women's half). The furthest she had run was 8 miles total. She wanted to give it a try anyway. She finished in 2 hrs 50 min. She kept to her Galloway plan and basically just kept putting one foot in front of the other. The walk breaks really helped.

If you can run 10 miles, I'm sure that 3.1 more won't be that much of a stretch. I'm sorry you have been so ill. Not fun. Just really listen to your body and try to give yourself a break. I mean, people run this race and stop and wait in long lines for character pictures and manage to finish. I figure that if I stop for the couple I REALLY want to see and bypass the others, I will be able to finish!! I am willing to bet you have the ability and the heart to get this race done!!

Good luck to you!!!!

PS-there is a guy on Youtube called ajruck. He has run two halfs and a full at Disney and he runs them all with a camera on the whole time. Watching the videos really gave me confidence. He's not a "super runner". He's just a regular guy who loves Disney and he goes out there and has a blast while he runs. If he can do it, we can do it!! Check him out!! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Hey. I believe its entirely possible that Saturday will still be a good run for you. I missed 7 or 8 training runs between October 4th and last week due to a grade 2 ankle sprain. The biggest hurdle for me has been mental. I've had to completely readjust my race goals... but that's just part of running: I'm learning to respect my body and know when to push and when to back off.

I've also been sick in the two weeks leading up to a half. Again, I had to let go of a faster goal pace in order to finish with any semblance of strength. My goal changed... And that was fine because I healed up to run another race!

Now, I've been following this thread and I see that you have put in the work for this race. Your biggest challenge is to find your plan for race night and allow yourself the leeway to adjust for any changes that you feel that night. And you never know- you could still have a great race after all this rest.

Your baseline training will carry you through this!

Rest up and we'll see you Saturday!!

Last summer, I had strep TWICE in the three weeks leading up to my A race half. I ran maaaaybe three or four times in those three weeks and I ran a PR. As long as you've gotten in some long runs, you should be okay. Just rest up this week...you can't get any training in at this point, ya know? If you're up to it Tues/Thurs maybe a couple of easy 3 milers?

DH and I are having a food disagreement about Friday night. He wants to sit down, get off his feet and have a large meal. We currently have a LC ressie.

In the interest of our pocketbook and the fact we are at the Food and Wine Festival, I'd prefer to stroll WS and eat.

Opinions about how to compromise to keep the marital bliss?? WWYD?

This always wins for me. Having a large meal the night before a race (even a night race) is *never* a good idea for me...it just weighs me down.

I was just thinking about Friday night. I think we'll either go to Downtown Disney and hit up Earl of Sandwich or stay in and order pizza. We're staying at Art of Animation, so maybe just a food court night.

This may not be much of a compromise, but I would (and am) enjoying the Food and Wine on Friday. I look at it as this is a limited time thing. You can dine at LC on any other visit but F&W is only for visits during this time frame.;)

SNARF! I did a ~3.75 mile run on a hilly route with very cambered roads this morning and now my ankle hurts a lot. I hope I didn't hurt it.

Courage, determination and passion... Just spent the last hour fiddling with my playlist. Here are the lyrics to the song I hope to finish with- its from the new movie planes (DS's new favorite) and I find it completely inspiring so I wanted to share: Nothing can stop me now Feel the passion ignite me Feel it burnin inside me I Won't let this life Just pass me by Gonna start a revolution Go by the name hero Take back control Yeah here I Go! Today I gotta make a change Straight to the top I'm on my way Cause I was meant for so much more And i found a dream worth fighting for And nothing can stop me Nothing can stop me now All I need is the horizon Courage to keep trying Awakened I feel so alive Today I gotta make a change Straight to the top I'm on my way Cause I was meant for so much more And i found a dream worth fighting for And nothing can stop me Nothing can stop me now

Love this- downloading it now! Thank you, it will be a surprise in my playlist at some point!

Do they still allow you to put a bag inside your clear plastic bag? I don't want to haul around that plastic bag for the remainder of the evening and though about stashing my Bagallini in it.

I am a neither option. I also am not a fan of eating big or of things that may upset the GI. If those were my two options, I would choose F&W and pre-shop what I was eating before hitting the loop.

WARNING for those headed to DTD this coming weekend…
Festival of the Masters will occur Friday through Sunday. The facility is already a mess due to the DTD Disney Springs project. If you go, take a bus. Parking is at a premium with a huge chunk of the space out of service for a new parking garage.

I urge caution. I would not pack anything inside the non-clear bag before placing in the clear bag. Security was receiving bags at the ToT; not a volunteer. Expect the bag to be opened and searched as you drop it off. I noted Security going through clothing at the ToT as clear bags were being dropped. Do NOT pack anything liquid like a recovery drink or in a gel form like an ice pack.

Hi all. Any suggestions for spectator spots for someone that's not attending the finish line party? Thanks!!

Out of curiosity, why is that? I saw it noted in the race brochure, something about not packing gel packs and DH and I were wondering why? We just had this discussion yesterday and couldn't figure it out. ;)

At the resort and in bed – like normal folks

Just kidding.

If you are staying at a resort other than an Epcot Resorts resort the spots are limited if one does not have a party pass. The only free spot is the finish line area. I think the best bet would be to hail a cab to one of the Epcot resorts and watch from there. The BW, Yacht and Beach have front row seats to miles 10 and 11. Post-race, the runner can come back through Epcot and meet the spectator at the resort and then take a cab back home.

I think due to the nature of many explosives coming in a gel form.

Just a guess, not saying that I have any direct knowledge of the subject.

LOL! Thanks, Coach. I'm running the race and my friend is not. I"ll let her know about the spots. I will never forget what you posted in the PHM thread earlier this year...relentless pursuit of forward momentum! It's kept me going all this time. Cheers!!
