The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

SNARF! I did a ~3.75 mile run on a hilly route with very cambered roads this morning and now my ankle hurts a lot. I hope I didn't hurt it.

Oh no! I hate running on roads like that. I try to switch sides frequently so the (over)load is evenly distributed.

So DH & i bought 4-day hopper tickets for thurs-monday through the sports link. I wasn't planning to hit any parks on saturday because I was planning to sleep in, do the Expo, pick up my sub sandwich, and then relax at the hotel, same as last year. Unbeknownst to me at the time of purchase, I now have to go to the Expo on Friday in order to pick up our Pre-Race Taste tickets with my packet. So that leaves our entire saturday open and I wouldn't mind going to a park for a few hours mid-day just for kicks (France movie, American Adventure, etc maybe...).

Does anyone know if you can modify these tickets to add a day?

My ankle still hurts this morning. I am in direct dress code violation at work today because I could not bring myself to wear heels today and instead I have my hot pink walking shoes on (they look super professional - not).

I'm hoping a few days rest will take care of it. There is no swelling in my ankle but it just hurts and keeps making a popping sound. It hurts right below where the ankle bone protrudes on the outside of the foot. It didn't hurt when I was running yesterday but hurt afterwards.

Is there anything else I should be doing to it/for it?

:(

Not a doctor here, but I would definitely ice it, and take some anti-inflamatory for sure. I hurt the top of my foot over the summer and the ER gave me some sort of shot (Toradol I think - which apparently is like NFL player stuff) and it really did help. but I could not walk on it. Sounds like you can walk on yours.

Don't run again until the race!

Anyone thinking the after party will be super packed and "undoable"? I have heard that it will be way busy, long lines, etc. Wondering if I should skip it and just hit up epcot in the morning.

Does anyone remember where the 15k timing mat is? It's somewhere in DHS, but I can't remember where.

Average daily attendance at Epcot is 30,000 people, and the closing weekend of Food & Wine will probably draw closer to 45,000. I don't know how many Finish Line Party tickets were sold, but given that there are about 15,000 runners, and not everyone will stick around for long, I'm thinking crowds would be better at the Finish Line party.

Ok thanks so much, if it isn't crazy busy or smelly I'll run it out until 4... Just hoping its not lame!

The first year of Wine and Dine half had an absolutely packed to the GILLS wall to wall people after party. It was way over sold and the lines for all the food booths were INSANELY long. There was a LOT complaint from runners about that situation. The next year was much better as was the year after that. Much more of the park was opened up and there was room to breathe and it didn't feel so horribly claustrophobic.

so here's hoping this year's after party will be the best yet!! :goodvibes

Hi folks,

I've been lurking along here, getting totally psyched for this weekend - and now I have a dilemma! A shoe dilemma, no less.

I went out for 8 miles Saturday morning in my trusty Wave Riders (I wear custom inserts with them). I had a great run, but I noticed the top of my left foot hurting the last two miles. I chalked it up to tying my shoes too tightly and walked it off, no problem.

Just now, I went out for my last at-home 5K run in the neighborhood (we fly out at stupid o'clock Thursday morning). Right away, same issue. OwOwOw. I dug into the tongue of the shoe when I got back and found that the soft lining of the tongue has folded over on itself pretty far down - I'm having a hard time seeing how I'll be able to get it to lie flat.

I tend to retire my shoes on the low end of the miles, and W&D was going to be the last race for this pair. I have two brand new pairs of Wave Riders sitting in our foyer waiting to be deployed for training after we get back from W&D.

SO.

What would you do? Try and make the current pair as comfortable as possible for their last 13.1? (Actually a bit more than that as I'll take them out for 3 when we get to WDW on Thursday.) Or do the unthinkable and bring down one of the new pairs? I'm leaning toward the former, but this weird little issue is disproportionately ouchy.

Safe travels, all! See you on the course... :)

If the new pair is the exact same style (not a new version reinvented), I would wear the new ones. I have worn "newish" pairs of same style right away for long runs and been fine. (Mizuno wave nexus actually).

But that's Just MY opinion.

I agree that IF they are the same make, model and version then you should not have an issue.

Break out the new shoes, place them on the feet and wear them on the plane trip here. Run in them as planned once here on Thursday. Based on how they feel, plan on wearing them in the race. Do bring the oldies along just in case you have the rare pair with the funny seam.

Like others posted, I ran year 1 and swore I would never go again. I am back for the race but I am not planning on attending the party. I really feel as though Disney is selling out by opening the gates to spectators as early as 7 pm. For me, that means fitting into a crowd of potentially drunk patrons who have been at it for 5 or so hours.

That's just my feeling.

Right at the 15k mark :) :rotfl2:

Somewhere right on Sunset Blvd.

Thanks coach. I was just trying to remember. I like to visualize and be prepared as much as possible and I know my garmin was off last year so I couldn't remember where it was.

Thanks! I admit it's nice to hear there could be the occasional exception to the cardinal rule against running a race in new shoes. The old pair and the two new pairs are all Mizuno Wave Rider 16s - the only difference is color. I'll wear the newbies down and take them out for a short run when we get to WDW. And I'll bring along the current ones, just in case!

One more quick thought. I'm not familiar with the wave rider. If they are heavy stability shoe and you think they break down easily, then you may find that running in the new ones will feel different because they will be more firm in their support. This could be good or bad depending on your shoe and your body mechanics. In my case it has usually been good.

I tend to retire my mizunos quickly as well, but have found that although I am not running in a shoe for severe overpronaters i do need some support. Tough combination to find. When I run in a shoe that over corrects my stride, my inner shins hurt. So ive stuck with the nexus 6 as long as possible and stocked up last year. Ironically, I now switch between my mizunos and a new shoe: addidas energy boost and this has lengthened the life of both my mizunos and my toe nails! Lol.

DH has asked me to ask if there are pace groups for this 1/2. TIA for any info.
