The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

:rotfl2: Just the post I needed to get through the rest of my evening. So glad you were able to focus on an often-neglected part of our training. I'm totally going to eat crepes after my run on Saturday. Thanks for the inspiration.

Yum!!! Crepes!

So I did my 30 minute maintenance run tonight. I decided to focus on something other than distance, intervals, speed, fueling, etc..... Instead on something very important - the After party! So after a particular hot and tiring run ......I had a beer. I think it went well. I'll need to experiment some more to make sure I'm fully prepared to finish the party in an upright position! next time maybe a post run wine or a margarita? Then gradually I'll try to add snacks ( from 28 countries ).
Stay hydrated my friends!
Melinda

YES!! So glad that someone else is training for the After Party! Lushes unite!:banana::banana:

I love the idea of taking photos with random people!!! I think we need to call Galloway and have him incorporate party training, potty stops and photo ops! I hope you make the after party walkdmc- if you do, you can buy me my first beer :)

You got it!

I run on Saturdays and try to be done by 7-7:30 AM. I figure my after party training is the errands, multiple loads of laundry, and chasing after my two kids. If I can do that after a long run, I suppose I can handle a few hours of food and wine. :-)

I did a 5 minute walk for warm up followed by 3.12 miles in 34 minutes and then a 5 minute cool down. I was about 20 sec slower per mile than I wanted but I was happy with the run. I started off a little too fast I think. My first mile was right at 10 minutes.

No beer for me tonight. 1) I'm a wine gal and 2) I had more than enough wine last week to last a while.

Oh you've got it!! How about staying up a half hour later two nights a week as maintenance, and then staying up 1, 2, 4 and 5 hours past my bedtime on consecutive long run weekends? Every other Thursday do a Magic Guzzle and time myself drinking an imported beer? :rotfl:

Oh my goodness, that is so funny that the app had you going 15minutes and 40seconds off of your pace time. Good luck on your 3-miler tonight. I'm right there with you around that pace. May I ask, what is your goal time in the half? I am definitely looking to be under 2:30 but maybe 2:15...

Sub 2:30 is my goal with a stretch goal of 2:15 or so too.

No running for me today (yet). It is so nice out, but I ran 4.5 yesterday and my toe still hurts. The second toenail on both feet grows UP, towards the top of my shoe. It doesn't get jammed up in the END of my shoe, it gets crammed up against the TOP of the shoe:headache:. I have no idea how to prevent this:confused3. It's only my second toes (which are not longer than my big toes) which is odd. All of the other toenails grow out...the second toes grow UP. A while back, I'd gone 7 miles and my toes hurt so bad afterwards. The toenails turned black and blue the next day and took about 6 weeks to finally fall off. Now, the second toes on both feet are all black and blue (and really thick:crazy2:??) so I am taking today off and hoping to try and run tomorrow morning before work. I've heard (from the salon that does my pedicures and the folks at the running store) that this is not an uncommon problem, but nobody had any suggestions for me. How about you guys...anyone have this problem? What do you do?

Actually yes, I have a very similar toe problem. Second toe,not longer, but somehow grows sort of up and hits the top of my shoe. And sadly, I don't really have an answer. I definitely notice it more when I run in the summer and when I run roads with any sort of decline. I use Vaseline pre run in the summer but that just helps with the blisters. Basically I just wear closed toed shoes a lot when they are ugly. I'm waiting to see if I lose them again this summer... :( actually when I lose them, it feels better than when they are bruised or blistered (under the nail I mean). I try to thnk of it as a "runners battle wound!"

You should also stop along your run to take photos with random people (characters), just to see how it affects your finish time!

I've done the ToT 10-miler and the EE 5k and was so looking forward to the after parties but didn't participate in either. I took a change of clothes to ToT which was a joke b/c I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to lift my legs high enough to change my pants. I REALLY REALLY want to enjoy the W&D 1/2 after party.

I Love a good post run recovery beer! My number one goal for this years wine and dine is finishing feeling well enough to enjoy the party. It took me the entire training period last year to finally get the hang of hydrating and pacing properly to be able to enjoy the day after a morning long run. I'm hoping I can improve and enjoy the after party this year! Last year I sprinted to the finish line (adrenaline) and then I stopped and stood in line for a medal engraving and that combination had a VERY bad affect on me. This year, I'm going to keep moving for a bit, and keep my pace more even. I don't care if I pr, I just want to enjoy the trio of halfs I signed up for (W&d, tink, and princess)!

Also meant to add: this is what makes wine and dine different- the fun party atmosphere and fellow runners! I'm sure princess and tink and January are fun too, but there's a different vibe running at night. Towards the lure of food. And wine. :)

...or am I the only one:laughing:?

The kids went off to granny and papa's house last night for a sleepover and DH had to get up at 4am for work, so I figured I'd go to bed nice and early (9pm) and get up at 4am also so I could try for 5 miles before work. (I don't have to be in until 1pm today, but since the kids spent the night at granny's house, I told work I'd come in around 8am) So I popped a melatonin at 8:30 and crawled into bed around 9...and then it began. The dogs (one is 15 months, the other is 6 months) decided that it was play time. They ran all through the house, barking, whining and carrying on, non-stop. About 1am, it was quiet...DH says, "You awake?":headache:...I am now...then he tells me that he locked the dogs outside in the backyard. The big one (a bullmastiff/malamute mix) I don't worry about, but the little one (a terrier/hound/something??? mix) has escaped before. He manages to find or create holes between the fence slats and gets out. We think we plugged them all, but I cannot sleep soundly knowing that he is outside in the backyard. So I try letting them in...little dude comes in but big girl is all sprawled out on the deck, enjoying the clear, cool night air....fine, stay there. Little dude came into our room and laid down to sleep...until he realized that his big sister wasn't around. So now he won't stop whining! Ugh:headache:! I think DH finally got up and put him outside too because when the alarm went off at 4am, they were both back outside.

Sorry for the rambling...back to my point...I dragged my sleepy self out of bed at 4:15am and finally hit the road at 4:45. I had no delusions of grandeur since I was so tired. I was thinking that 3 miles would be my distance goal but I was determined to be at or under 12:30 no matter what. It was nice and cool outside (49 degrees!) with no clouds and a bright, full moon. I was throroughly enjoying my run and, again, wished I had more time. I did my 1/4 mile walk to warm up then started the 4/2 intervals. I hit my inhaler one time which cleared my chest tightness right up and it never returned. I made it back home and stopped my watch without looking...oops...3.24 miles:rolleyes2. UGH!!! I should have gone across the street one more time for a nice, even 3.25 miles. My pace? 12:30 exactly:goodvibes. It felt good, I wasn't too winded and I still got in at a 12:30 pace. I looked at my splits and the second mile was faster than the first (obviously, since I walked the first 1/4) and my third mile was faster than my second. Oh how I wish I could have kept going!

I will probably try to run tomorrow and then I will see what the weekend brings. It is my 4-day weekend ON so running time will be at a premium.

:hug:Good luck to all you other pavement-pounders! Get out there and run....LUSHES UNITE:thumbsup2!

That is a GREAT idea! :cool1: It'll be nice to focus on something other than miles!

Hmmmm, this Saturday I'll be running in Winter Garden, about 30 minutes away from ::MickeyMo. I think a celebratory warm-up afternoon of 'ritas are on my horizon!! :hyper:

Lol! Really! I laughed out loud! I think " lushes unite " will be on my race shirt somewhere!!

Darn! I already had my shirt made! :scared1: Maybe we can bring nametags to the pre-race meetup. "Hello my name is PlutoBaby aka Kimberley and a proud member of Lushes Unite." :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Right there with ya Sister Lush! :lmao: After battling with trying to fall asleep most of the night, I finally gave up at 4:45 and dragged my butt onto the elliptical. Thankfully it's only in the garage so iI don't have too far to go. I don't know how you manage to actually RUN that early! :scared1:

You mean that isn't why we're running? I thought that was the only reason we're running. Dang it.
Is there supposed to be some other reason for participating in this insanity??? :confused3 :lmao:

So, so true! My new goal is to only run races with beer at the end. I did a local 5k for a Sommerfest, so obviosuly there was beer at the finish. Plus a Tap N Run where have beer stations (in addition to water) during the 4k course.

Maybe I shouldn't admit these things as a newbie? :rolleyes1 Hi, I'm Kelley, and I apparently have an addiction to running and beer. :wave2:

Here's the problem I have, though. I am a beer snob, so getting a Bud Lite at the end makes me want to run slower to avoid the bad beer coming my way.

LOL! I was really surprised, but the Tap N Run actually had Goose Island on tap. I expected Bud Lite :) I'll drink just about anything though :blush:

First, I like your running story of trying to get up and go. Second, way to go on hitting your goal time. Third, I hate it when I am off on time or distance by a fraction like that. My OCD makes me obsess about it. Like, if I run three miles and the time says 29:40 or something, I go crazy about not pushing it for those extra 20 seconds or, the other day I ran 3.46 and I was so mad that I didn't get those last hundredths of a mile in to get to 3.5. Glad you have a few days off to get some runs done!

I've been seen running up and down the sidewalk in front of my house and circling the driveway to round out my times/distances. Multiple times.

so I’m training for both this and the tower of terror and now I’m starting to get into the longer runs.. i was wondering what my fellow Floridians do for hydration.. i was thinking about just using a camel back like i did in the military, but i was wondering if there were any better options.
