The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Hmm, maybe the 5/2 was just a little too much run, so your pace was a little slower during the run portion, or, if you were pushing it, you could have walked slower since you were more tired from running, lol. I still think you did a great job though..

What does 5/2 mean?

New shoes helped a lot today. My knees were no where near as bad. Still need to build up ankle strength. My endurance sucks but that will come along. I tried C25K again and was Okay for a bit until endurance gave out. On the bright side I was maintaining a 13:30 mile pace. I think tomorrow I will skip the trainer and simply try to power walk 5K. I know I can cover the distance, its just a matter of picking up the pace. My goal is to A) lose 45 lbs by November 3rd and be able to sustain a 30 minute jog.
And my son reminded me that MJJ5K won't be my first run as I am signed up for a "Color Me RAD" 5K event in August up in Denver.
YES!! Successfully completed 5K this morning on the indoor suspended track at base. My time was 45:15 (don't laugh!) which I am please with (for now). Knees ache only a little, feet feel fine. Tomorrow will be cardio in the pool.
In order to do 5K on the track I have to do a little over 37 laps. Top keep track of the laps I downloaded an app called Tap-A-Lap. It works fine. I only wish it had buttons I could press when I start jogs/walks so I could know at the end what percentages of the time were spent in each mode. I know the walks are winning right now.
Glad the shoes helped, that's great news! And AWESOME job on the 5K! 37 laps...yikes! I would have went insane.

Nice run tonight. I was scheduled for 3miles so I figured it was a good day to do a Galloway Magic Mile test. I ran a not so slow warm-up of 1.1 miles@a 11:35 min/mile pace. Then I did my magic mile in 9:38. I finished up with another 2 miles. I walked the first 4 minutes to recover a little and finished the rest at an 11:45 min/mile pace. I was happy with it. Per the Galloway calculator that puts my at a 2:30 half marathon which would be great.

I'm hoping over from the Tink board to ask a silly question that you guys probably all know.
Is the Wine & Dine 1/2 a flat course?

I'm a DL gal, and doing my first run Disney event....and was thinking a coast to coast medal would be nice?!?!

For what it's worth I never really felt like we were running uphill. In general, I noticed the downhill slopes more (off the exit ramp before Hollywood studios). And also, I was surprised that when we went to DL on vacation I felt like it was much more hilly park in general compared to the Florida parks. So it will probably seem pretty flat to you. If you google disney wine and dine and map my run elevation chart, you will probably find one that someone has posted. But yes, it's mostly flat. And it's a great race!

Now I should hop over to the tink board and ask the same question!!! :)

Did my first official training run this morning. 3 easy miles at just under 10-minutes per mile. I've decided to combine the Higdon plan with the sub-2:30 half plan offered by RunKeeper. My goal is to finish the race running the entire time, but my second goal is to do it in a sub 2:15 time. We shall see if I can make it a reality :)

In other fitness news, I just finished the first week of a 30-day plank challenge. I did 3x45s planks today after my run and I don't know how I am going to work my way up to a 5-minute plank by the end, but I know that working through this plan will really help my core strength, which is essential to completing my half-marathon training with my back intact.

capseal - can you post a link to your plank plan? I tried one about a month ago and didn't like it...seemed to jump up too quickly.

Honestly, I think all WDW races are flat. Sure there are a couple of inclines/overpasses, but if you run any hills at all you will be fine. And if you don't, they are so short, just walk up and then start running again at the top. :goodvibes

I ran Disneyland and the Wine and Dine last year.

According to my Garmin, the elevation gains were:

Disneyland 74ft

W&D 61ft

Some of my "flatter" runs.

Good luck with the Coast to Coast!

Wow! The run I did yesterday was less than 5 miles and it had a 190ft elevation gain:scared1:. Glad to see the W&D is only 61:banana:!

Sure! This may be the same one you used since it seems to jump quickly, as well, after the first week. I may be doing it as a 45-day plank challenge soon :)

This is the plan my friend sent to me. I'm currently heading into my first rest day tomorrow. I've been doing sets of three at each interval, so far, to make it more challenging. I'm sure by the end of next week I'll just be trying to get through one.

Thanks!!

That's not the one I had...that one would jump up by, like, 30 seconds every few days. No thank you!

I found a map of Mickey's Jingle Jungle 5K today. It says the elevation change is 52 feet and it looks like all the elevation climb is in the first mile or so.

On my map my run app is said the elevation began at 104 and had a max at 190 ft. On the graph it is easy to see the overpasses! But I thought the hill up to the entrance of HS where the army man yelled "take the hill soldiers" was short but a bit rough.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I just got back from my longest run ever. :) I was scheduled for a 3 mile long run (Galloway program) but ended up going 4.59 miles! I felt strong and took it slow 2/1 intervals so I feel great (so far). Icing the calves right now! Have a great week of training this week!

I got my 4 miles in tonight and must say I'm pretty proud of myself. It was my son's 4th bday this weekend so it was pretty chaotic. But after it all settled down at 8 tonight I decided to go get my 4 miles in! And omg what a difference in temp than my other runs this week. It's amazing how much difference the heat makes. I did 2:30/1 and felt really good at the end. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

I went 4 miles this morning too. I had been doing 4/1 intervals but decided to drop down to 3/1 intervals to see if I could really improve my time.

I did, I suppose, but I didn't like the rhythm of it. Maybe b/c it's different? And I felt like I pushed harder on my 3 minute stretches than I did on my 4 minute stretches and I always wound up pretty winded. If I'd slacked off to my usual 4 minute stretch pace, it probably would not have gained me any time.

Hmm....gonna have to think about that one.

Thanks for the info ladies! Coast to coast is just a very distant goal!! But if I'm going to even think about it I had to ask my one very important question :). Haha!!

I'm not really good about varying my pace. I pretty much feel like I have one running speed and one walking speed so my pace seems to be set more by my walk breaks than my pace.

So how much faster do you run your shorter runs then the long run? How much slower than your half marathon pace do you run your long runs? Do you really find that you can run the race faster than the miles you practice during the long runs?
