The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Oh no, Coach! That's terrible news. Sending speedy healing vibes your way.

The camber of those roads is HORRID. I remember finishing up the WDW half on that last onramp where the army guy was and it was so damn slanted, I wanted to DIE. I was hoping W&D would skip that part.

W&D does skip the clover leaf section from the WDW Half. Actually, the small section I describe does not feel as bad in the W&D as it does at mile 21.3 of the full.

I saw a bunch of people reporting that they received final instructions via e-mail yesterday but I still haven't received anything. Does it usually take a couple of days to get them all out? Doesn't seem like 15,000 or 20,000 emails would take that long...

It's the orientation class all new cast members have to take :)

Thanks!

:thumbsup2

Sorry I had to be away this afternoon.

I call it the Disney brainwashing class. Simply, I know of few cast members who do not think it the best day ever. I just got a text from Mary saying Mickey just handed her name tag to her.

Yes, I think I could easily believe that! :scared: Mickey handing me my name tag would be pretty awesome though. :cheer2:

A followup on this AM's run... Yikes, I need an ortho. I was getting out of the car in a sandy area this afternoon and torqued my knee. A pop, a bright light pain and now it looks like a rugby ball.

I am thinking the W&D may still be a once and done for me

If you're punkin' us all...STOP IT!!! (That's it right, you're just playing with us??? PLEASE!!! :scared1:

Hi everyone, I have been lurking on this site for a few weeks now, just getting so excited with the time coming so fast. Just wanted to say HI and wish everyone a safe run. :cheer2:

:welcome: to the world of runDisney obsessed Disney Dorks! :grouphug:

Well. The good news is that there wasn't anything in the email that was personalized. They didn't provide a way to look up your bib number. They stated several times that numbers would be provided at packet pick up. From what I could tell all the info in the email is also now on the wine and dine event page.

But the bigger concern is if you are registered. I think there is a link in the wine and dine we page where you can check your registration. Do that and maybe call rundisney too.

I'm definitely registered - I am able to view and print my waiver and I have confirmation of my updated Proof of Time from runDisney. It's just strange I didn't get the email that most everyone else got.

My bib number printed on my waiver. I looked that up first thing!

Looks like it's knee pain time in the training plan.... :headache: No, seriously, I hope no one else (in addition to coach) starts getting knee pain just because I typed that! But I AM having some knee pain. I know it's from the stupid run I did on Wednesday. I'm an idiot. I can't listen to my own basic rules (1. don't do anything new near race day and 2. don't try to work on speed AND distance in the same week). Stupid me decided to run fast on wednesday after I did what for me was a very challenging 10-mile run on sunday. And now my knees are hurting and I have to decide whether to skip today's short run and move on to this weekend's 6 or try to get the run in today and maybe do 5 on sunday. They were a bit achy on sunday after my run up and down so many hills, then they recovered mostly, until I did speed work on wednesday. Thursday they were SO hurting and today, a little better but still..... It's not an injury, I know that. At least not a new one. But probably an inflamation of my usual bad knees.... I've been icing, rolling, and taking aleve. I'm even wearing my running shoes to work which seems to have helped a lot.

Is it November yet???

Magic Bands received. First round of FP+ made, it's getting real folks!

DH and I are still in disagreement over what to do for dinner on Friday, 11/8. We currently have a LC ressie but I'm wanting to cancel (mainly b/c I'm cheap) and eat around the World.

DH is leery of doing that on the night before a race and wants Chinese counter service instead. :crazy2:

Nervous about managing food intake as a whole on Friday.

I've got a pretty sturdy stomach, so I'm not too worried about Friday. We'll have more than 24 hours from our last meal on Friday until race time. It's Saturday that will present a little more of a challenge for me. I'm mostly going to try to avoid greasy/fried foods as much as possible Saturday. Even a modest dinner around 5pm will have had quite a while to digest before race time.

We have a later breakfast or brunch, a really light snack in the afternoon and a pre-race meal in the 6-7 pm timeframe. I think I had a PB&J a banana and a glass of milk for the ToT. Then a builder's bar in the corral.

My knees have hurt since the 1980's. A week of easy training here-and-there will be O.K. We bought an extra upright freezer just to accommodate bags of ice. There is no magical one-fits-all training plan.

The most important part of any plan is rest/recovery.

I've seen your mountain! I'll second this, Disney is really a flat course. The W&D is probably the second flattest of the existing courses used on property. At best the elevation varies 30 - 40 feet and even then, ramped gently. A lot of folks find the roadways at WDW to have a greater camber than they are used to. What I have found is that running along the lane stripes provides the flattest, non-cambered path on most roadways. You do have to keep an eye out for the nasty little reflectors that are on the same line but that is a small price to pay for losing some of the camber. The worst side slope on the W&D is the turn from Osceola onto World Dr; mile 7.5 ish. This small stretch has a side slope that slopes left and neither side of the road has a flat spot. Best to just push through the stretch and enjoy the downhill onto World. ORN: I ran a hill profile this morning on the TM. The hour long run was really the first hard run since the ToT Otherwise, my DW is in Traditions today. Poor thing texted me once she got checked in and settled saying that she was already in the doghouse. Seems that her shoes have a small secondary color stripe that is a no no. She will be a costumed CM so we she will be shoe shopping this weekend

Coach -try taking her to the Reebok outlet if she is in a role that allows solid color athletic shoes rather than dress shoes. When DS was a costumed CM, he found they were the best place to find either solid black or solid white athletic shoes.

On Friday, I think we'll order a pizza and hang out in the room. On Saturday we're having breakfast at Kona, where I plan on french toast, eggs and lots of coffee, a lighter lunch (probably a sandwich) about 3pm or so, a banana and pb at about 6pm and then a mini clif bar about 8pm. Water all day long! And no veggies...oof, veggies wreck me. :)

In the column do what Coach says, not what he does....

I needed a mental boost so I drove over the BW for a run. What a beautiful late summer early fall morning. I hopped out of the car, walked for about 5 minutes the took off on a slow jog from the parking lot behind the guard shack towards Crescent Lake. I made about 3-4 minutes and the knee started saying no. I tried varying pace and stride all the way around to the bakery and called no joy.

I have an ortho appointment for the week after next with the head of Celebration Health's orthopedic group (or the head knee guy) - I would have settled for the new guy out of med school if I could have found something earlier. I am not used to the long lead times for a specialist - in Houston, I would have been seen in 3-4 days.

So I have my ice bag and am waiting for football this afternoon. I have a good idea of what is wrong and am hopeful that an informed patient can help direct treatment so I can get back on the road quickly.

That stinks. Sorry you have to wait so long to get in. I hope it's nothing serious.

I had a great 8 mile run this morning. Running in temps in the 60's is so nice.

Next week my schedule calls for my last long run of 14 miles. I may replace it with the Houston Half next Sunday. Are there any big problems with that if I run at training pace and not race pace?
