I did my first official 10K race this morning

. There were only 30 people in it and I finished 29th overall

...and that's only because I passed an "older" gentlemen in the last block

. I don't care.... I did it in an 11:30 pace

! My official time was 1:10:20.8 and I was hoping to keep it under 1:15 so I am ecstatic! DH wanted to stay under 1:04 and he finished in 57:?? so he is pretty excited too. The funny thing is that they gave medals to the top three male and female finishers in each age group...DH and I both got second place medals...but of course, there were only 2 people in our respective age groups

. Who cares...we finished

.
Here's another funny side note... I packed up everything for the race in my backpack. Everything I normally run with...iPhone, earbuds, inhaler, shoes, hat, sunglasses, hydration belt. We drive to the race location (about an hour away) and I realize...DOH

!...I have my hydration belt, but all four water bottles are still sitting in the refrigerator at home

. So, I downed a 1/2 liter bottle that we had in the car and hoped that they had some water stops along the route. They did...but I think I missed my mouth with most of it. My bib was used as it's name implies

. I can't run and drink from an open glass at the same time. Some of the volunteer girls asked if I wanted to be splashed with water. I told them sure, but only my back. As I ran past, they did not miss

.
The course was nice and flat and mostly paved. There was one section where we left the road and took a two-track on gravel, which I HATED. I am obviously a concrete-type runner because that trail portion was awful. Fortunately, most of it fell during my walk interval and I maintained a 13:00 pace during my walks so I got through most of it before I had to start running again.
I had to hit my inhaler 4 times but I think that was mostly because of the humidity and the fact that we were in a very foliage-rich area. I think allergies were causing me to have a bit more wheezing than I am used to since I normally only hit the inhaler once every 2-3 miles. My feet and knees feel fine but I was a little scared at the starting line. I was bent over stretching out my hamstrings and lower back and when I straightened my left knee, I felt it "click". I bent it and straightened it again...same thing, "click". I had DH put his hands on my knee and did it again..."click". It wasn't painful and I could barely even feel it, but I was unable to reproduce it on my other knee and I am almost certain that knees are not supposed to "click" on command. Like I said, I felt no pain or discomfort so I just ran as usual. After the race, the clicking was gone and I ran pain-free throughout the race. I have a suspicion as to what it was and I don't want to get it confirmed. *IF* it's what I think it is, I've had it my whole life and if it gets formally diagnosed, it will mean no running for 6 months minimum. As long as I don't have a doctor's order, I can't disobey it

. I am planning on seeing the orthopedic doctor *after* the 1/2 marathon. If I do actually sustain an injury, or experience any sort of pain, I will get it diagnosed, skip the race and drown my sorrows at the Food and Wine Festival. Like I said, I think this is a condition I have had my entire life and it has not gotten any worse with running thus far. A few more months should not change anything.
Now that the 10K is done, how do I contact RunDisney to submit our times? I know that it was a chip-timed race and they will post our times on their website. Do I just e-mail RunDisney with the name of the race and what my time was or do they need a more tangible "proof"?
I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend. My next run won't be until Tuesday. I need a break...I did 12 miles on Tuesday, 6 miles on Thursday and another 6 miles today. I can't believe I have run 24 miles in the past 5 days

. It's great to have a goal!
