The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

I think I love the new medal! I liked the other one, and thought it was pretty cool, but to be honest I am really taken with having Mickey on the medal! That's awesome!!

Oh...that medal is sooooooooo pretty:goodvibes. It will be my first (and probably only:sad2:) RunDisney medal and so it will be cherished. It will be my reminder that no matter how impossible something seems, I can achieve it if I really push myself. If someone told me one year ago that I would be paying over $150 to participate in a 13.1 mile run, I would have laughed myself into a coma. I was the one who had a doctor's order NOT to run more than ONE mile. I was the one gasping for air after running for 30 seconds. I was the one who thought a 5K was an impossible goal. Well, I intend on proving to myself that I *CAN* run!. I might be slow, and I might not be actually "running" the whole way, but doggone it, I worked for this and I WILL have that medal:thumbsup2.

Good luck to all those on the west coast this weekend:dance3:. You have my support and encouragement:hug:.

Good Morning!

Another random transportation question again...

Thinking about dining in the MK on Saturday morning before going to the Expo. What will be the best way to get to the Expo from MK?? Is there a bus? Or will we be stuck taking a taxi? I see the Poly is a host resort so maybe hop the monorail there and then a bus? I know that the taxi is always an option (and the most direct) but since we are staying at AKV, we already need a cab back from the race so I am trying to really minimize our transportation expenses.

Surprised they changed the W&D medal...I like it but I was really looking forward to getting that beautiful SSE medal, so I'm a teeny bit disappointed. If I'd never known the SSE medal existed I'd be thrilled! :rotfl2: Love the ribbon.

I'm surprised too. I was kinda looking forward to them changing it next year for the 5th anniversary. (I also kinda was hoping they would keep a similar design next year, but make it gold). I loved that it looked so "Epcot". I felt it was a great match to the race. Theres just something so different about the W&D race. I'm not saying the new design isn't fun, but I loved the old design. Also, I kinda liked that they had a Mickey medal only at the original marathon weekend in January. And finally, I was going to figure out a way to run the W&D next year for the new medal but now I can save my money or do the RnR Vegas half instead. (Not that I do it solely for the medals, but that was a big factor for next fall since ill already be doing tink and princess in 2014).

I'd say monorail to the Poly to catch the bus is your best bet.

That's what you say now. I said the same thing. Now I'm looking forward to earning medals for W&D 2013, tink, princess, 10k, glass slipper challenge and coast to coast in 2014. And for the record, my doc told me not to run anymore either. Took me 3 years to get here. You can do this!

getting ready for my nice easy 8 mile run today...

in other news i still cant book my room since the AP discounts arent up yet

is a photo of the medal out already? this will be my 1st one from Disney....

Kind of disappointed the new medal isn't the same Epcot design it's been in the past. Someone in the WDW Marathon thread posted the picture.

I was thinking the same and then there---I looked closer--- on Mickey's plate---- he's serving up Space Ship Earth.

If I get my geodesic triangle fix, I'm ok.:) I'm loving the medal now.

Love the run updates. I'm impressed with all of you who are struggling with difficulties. Keep it up, and keep sharing!:yay:

We went out of town for the holiday weekend so I set out on my long run today along a mostly unfamiliar route. (DH did his long run Saturday so we went out in the car last night so that he could give me a little bit of direction.) I was aiming for 8-9 miles but, after DH did 10, I wanted to see if I could complete that as well. (Because my crazy, almost no training DH is not allowed to run more than me.) So, I set out slow this morning trying to put a bad training week behind me. I'm having some ankle pain lately that I believe is shoe related. That went on to varying degrees through most of my miles but wasn't bad enough to force me to stop. I also went out without water or fuel. Imagine how delighted I was to find water bubblers with cups at miles 5 and 7! I've run on a lot of Air Force bases and never encountered these so I was thrilled. I finished 10 miles though the last half mile was really hard to push through. I think I'll stick with 10 miles for a few more weeks before tackling 11 and 12. Glad I have time to do that. I'd like to increase my pace a bit in the next few weeks. This morning I ran 10:50 miles, when I tend to do my long runs at a 10:30 pace. Still on track for a sub 2:30 half but I'm seeing sub 2:15 slip away.

Great job on your 10 miles Capseal!!

I did my 8 miles last night. I was really nervous because my 6.5 was horrible. I switched things up a bit in hopes of making the 8 go smoother.
I always run at night usually on a semi full belly so yesterday, I really didn't eat much:

Toasted bagel with butter for breakfast.
Coconut water for lunch
Spoonful of peanut butter and a banana about an hour before my run.
During my run I hydrated at mile 2 and 6.
I had Gatorade chews at mile 2 and Welches fruit chews at mile 6.
I used my inhaler every mile.

The run went great! I could have gone another mile. My average pace was 14:15. A full minute per mile faster than my 6.5 miles.

Bad news, I need new shoes! The cushioning is gone, the bottoms of my feet were killing me and I got a small blister. I'm going Friday to get a new pair. Do you think I can get the same style again? Or should I get fitted for something else. Overall I really liked these.

Also, about 3 hours after my run I got really dizzy and shaky. I had some powerade and sweet potato chips and felt much better!

I felt very encouraged over all :) will continue to tweak things and work on speed.

Happy Training

did my 8 miles yesterday, it wasnt so bad i did pretty well 13.11 minute miles.. i have a small blister on the side of my foot otherwise im not sore at all today

My friend sent me pictures of her medals yesterday from Disneyland. She did the DDD, and I have to say the medals are beautiful. The C2C medal is incredible. I want one!!! By the time I save the money to run a C2C I will be too old to run them, based on the aches and pains I am experiencing now!!! She did say the new wine and dine medal is 'awesome'. :-)

First great job on completing your run in great condition.

Let's talk shoes....

First, the blistering may well be from many other thing besides a tired pair of shoes. So, how many miles do you have on your current pair? If you do not know and they are older than 6-9 months, I would agree that a new pair are in order. Have you had any issues with feet, ankles, knees, hips (other than the recent blister)? Also, were you fitted in a running store? If you were not previously fitted or you have had joint issues, I would definitely hit a running store for a fitting. Otherwise, the same make and model should still serve you well. Note that if your manufacturer has changed the model up since your last purchase, I would again think of hitting a running store.

I would suggest a post run recovery meal/snack if you are not already doing this. The body begs for its stores to be restocked and having 2-300 Kcal of protein/carbs within the first hour post run is a great start.

Happy to read everyone sticking to training. These days seem o be the toughest to keep getting out. I have gained some weight from poor eating and too much beer drinking - but I love summer time and friends.
Yesterday, I finally put new sneaks on. Old pair had 450+ miles on them and I was having all kinds of odd pains. Completed a 7 mile run avg 8min miles and was pain free :)
Upcoming event is a marathon relay next weekend. Super fun event, we have 3 teams that are evenly matched. At each transition, we have hello shots this year, last year was mimosas'. At the end we have a nice lunch.
Now that school has started, I can get back to eating better an drinking less :)
Looking to drop 10-15 by race night.

Keep on training.

Charles- I have been struggling with odd hip pain since July. Have been switching between Mizuno Wave Elixir 7's and new 8's during this time. Could the hip pain be shoe related? I hadn't really thought of it since it is the same shoe, just a newer version. Hmmm...

For the Elixer revision it is possible, though unlikely. I would look for to a tightness in the hip girdle area that is beginning to tell you to stretch a little better/differntly.
