I am looking to go Oct. 4-12. This runs into Columbus day weekend. Should I change my plans to the week before or after. I am hoping to get a discount. I used to get a card in the mail all the time for discounts. I used it for a vacation in March 2013 and have not received another one since.

Last year FD was:

September 29 - October 2
October 18 - November 2

there is usually a "break" in FD from the first few days in October until the Friday/Saturday after Columbus Day.
No way to know what/if there will be FD this year. Last year Fall FD PINS starting coming out in May and the dates were about the same as the GP offer that came out in the summer. If there are FD Pins this spring, they might give some indication of possible GP dates.

Columbus Day is one day later this year so maybe the break in October will be later?

Ugh, was planning on the first weekaround but if we can't get a RO discount or free dining we will need to seriously consider changing our dates. Which sucks as we wanted to use the long weekend to get an extra day out of it.

Of course we can change the date and just use up another precious vacation day but I already talked the BF into leaving a day early. Not sure if he'll go for adding another day off to that.

.....unless we go a month early and use the labour day long weekend??!!!

We have done the Labor Day weekend and week after and that was the best vacation. With kids ages we just can't miss that much school but as soon as its just DH and I again that's when we will be going again.

Thanks for the help. I will probably switch to the week before. My daughter always has show choir concerts during the second to last week of October so I randomly picked the first week in Oct. I don't care about Columbus day except I figured we would get an extra day out of it.

What website has the historic info for the discount blackout dates? I found the historic release dates, but not the blackout dates.

I think we may have to travel close to columbus day, and I am trying to estimate approx when discounts are likely.

Also if anyone knows approx. how many days after columbus day the discounts kick in again, I would appreciate even an educated guess.

I'm joining in the watch! We have to go Columbus Day weekend so I'm scared I may be out of luck I have Shades of Green booked as a back up but I really would prefer to stay onsite if I can get some sort of discount! Didn't know this thread existed so I'm excited to have friends to keep watch with!

We are officially booked in at Pop for October 19-28! We also have our flight to Orlando and Universal hotel for Oct 14-18 booked, so the trip is set in stone.If we get a RO discount, that's great, its always nice to save money. If we get FD, even better as it will save us a fair bit of money since we are staying on property . That being said, the DDP is not something we would ever purchase because its just not worth the cost to us, based on how little we eat on vacation. However, it would be very convenient if it was free!

I keep hearing about these PIN codes -I'm wondering if I should call Disney and ask if there's one attached to our address. Hmm, not sure what to say, though. Do you just call in and get right to the point ("hi, how are you, do I have a PIN?")...

Hey welcome to the dis! I too am in Ottawa...just about 20 min west actually yes you can call disney and just ask if you have a pin discount attached to your name :0) we over lap our trips... We leave on the 22 nd of October , returning e 31st. :0)

I am pretty much set to book, just waiting for a pin to make it possible.
Every time I speak to my mom over the phone, I can hear the excitement in her voice about the possible trip and can't stop thinking "please-o-please-o-please we need a October FD pin!"

Tell me about it! We are going pin or no pin, but FD is the difference for us between 4nights/5days and 6nights/6days

We're also looking at going Oct 19th so hoping for some discount.

Question - I just want to confirm that there is no harm in booking now...and then if some discount comes along (meal plan, hotel discount, pin), that it can be applied afterwards?

There is no harm in booking now and if a discount comes out it can be applied, not guaranteed you can keep the room or even the resort you have booked. That said, I do believe in waiting to book. Disney has really cut back on discounts recently, booking ahead may hinder discounts offered and even the amount of discounts. Deep discounts are used to fill rooms, why would Disney discount a room already booked??

PINs are random and you can be notified by mail, email, or even not at all, so call and ask if you or anyone in your household has one.

Do you want a discount? That really is the question. If you want or need a discount then booking a specific resort will only tell Disney that resort does not need a discount since it already has enough bookings. If you don't want or need a discount and are willing to pay what you need to to be in a specific room/resort then you will need to book ahead at rack rate. In October I don't think I have ever seen a resort sold out, not offered for discounts yes but never has a resort not been available at rack rate.

Well, we're pretty set on Art of Animation for their affordable suites and neat theming. A discount (on hotel of dining) would be a bonus but it wouldn't make us change our resort. I know in the past AoA was excluded....so maybe we should just book soon then.
