Hopefully this helps folks if they end up in your town! Any mention of COVID, and you have to eat Carolina-style mustard based BBQ! YUCK!

Here's my 2 cents from where we live: (Alpharetta, GA, area)

Smokejack - best burnt ends I've ever had, hands down. Used to be a great place to go, but the downtown has grown so much, parking is a pain. That being said, if you find yourself in town... just do it! Downtown is super cool now, great for a date night.

CUE- I can't think of any dish they excel at, but it's all good. The kids love the mac & cheese! Live music makes this a fun place to visit, but can get VERY crowded on weekends, arrive early.

Slopes BBQ - a little more "authentic" and easier to get in and out. Brisket!

It WAS Bib's Downtown in Winston-Salem but they closed a month or two ago (lost their lease). I am currently in seacrh of a replacement here in NC.

Louisville is a great restaurant town but I have to say we don't have a great BBQ scene. A local chain, some other places that are OK at best.

We don't have many BBQ choices in my area. Bear's down in CT is good, but it's about the only choice these days. Even the Famous Dave's closed years ago.

We are a small city,,but we have a new bbq place that everyone is raving about. It's called Lost Mountain BBQ. Just waiting for the opening weeks crowds to die down enough to be able to try it.

What city?

In Orange County, CA....Lucille's BBQ is it. It's a chain (a small, west coast chain in CA, NV and AZ).

They do the smoking of the meats right and it's a fabulous and fun (sort of kitschy) place. The theme is BBQ with a Southern influence.

My aunt and uncle brought us there when we visited CA a few years ago. There's one within walking distance of their condo.

I live in Memphis, so...like everywhere! This town smells like barbecue sometimes!

My favorites are Corkys & Interstate, but it's hard to go wrong around here. A subpar BBQ joint won't last long around here. honestly, some of the best I've had came out of my mom's smoker!

Athens Georgia

Zeb's BBQ in Danielsville. Been there since dirt, little hole in the wall with rolls of paper towels on the table and little old ladies who walk around with a pot of Brunswick Stew and ask "want some more stew hon?" They have the old fashioned cruet bottles on the tables with the sauce, which is a vinegar based sauce.

Second best - Fresh Air BBQ. Not at good at Zeb's but if we don't want to drive all the way out to Danielsville it will do. Only the BBQ though, their stew not so much.

My backyard. I haven't had BBQ from a restaurant that I wasn't disappointed in. Gotta have smoke and mine has smoke. I've never had bad BBQ, but it's like none has any smoke.

I ate at the Commissary in Germantown last time in town, it was da bomb!

Commissary isn't even a favorite place of mine, but it's better than what you'd find in most other cities. They do have great banana pudding which is another benchmark for BBQ joints that pople often forget. I have a few categories:

Ribs: Corkys, Interstate
BBQ Spaghetti (yeah, that's right) - Interstate
Pulled Pork: Corky's, Jerry Lawler's, Tops
Smoked Chicken: One & Only
BBQ Bologna: Cozy Corner
Fresh Prok Rinds: Jerry Lawler's (with cheese sauce for dipping!)
Banana Pudding: One & Only, Commissary

You're not going to go wrong with ANY of the above!

We have none. Rural area filled with a ton of pubs and breweries. So I'll name others not in our area:
Chain BBQ: Lucille's Smokehouse BBQ
Las Vegas, NV: John Mull's Road Kill Grill and Rollin Smoke BBQ

We have lots of great BBQ in Texas. Texas is known for smoked brisket. We have the famous places like Salt Lick, Black’s, Meyer, Franklin, Southside, Cooper’s. Then there’s a bunch that us locals frequent. Some of these places ship as well.

Man, I like some Texas places for their beef, but I always have sticker shock! Here BBQ is mostly all pork, and it's pretty cheap. That brisket sure costs more than some pulled pork shoulder. I do like how they sell it by weight, but it's easy to go crazy, ha ha!

Many of the craft bbq places are very pricey. Beef ribs are very expensive as well.
There’s a small local bbq food truck that is reasonably priced. I love their smoked chicken. Sometimes they have a coupon for $10 for a whole chicken.
