the next best place?

Is it only me, or does disney treat their restaurant customers different than any other restaurant in the world? You try to make reservations, but they treat you like they are doing a favor for you, rather than you are trying to spend mucho dinero with them. It is as if they have set rules, no reservations for this many at this time, etc. etc., and they have no clue how to bend rules so as to keep the customer happy. Case in point, V&A has two seatings, one at 6 and one at 9. I called, and was offered numerous ones at 6 and numerous ones at 9(5:30, 5:45, 6:00, 6:15 and 8:45, 9:00, 9:15). Well I have a cocktail party at 6, till 7:30. So, lets do V&A after. Even though there are apparently many tables available at 6, and many available at 9, they can't change the rule and sit you at 8:30. So, I say, charge me more. Oh, I am sorry sir, we have the set seatings and cannot change, even if there are tables unused. Huh? I guess that tells me I am spending to much at Disneyt. they take me for granted. Now, before I get flamed, I understand restaurant rules, and what I was asking for was outside those rules, but, if you got tables free, why not sell them?

anyway, to the question......

Behind Victoria and Alberts, what is the next best place around for a good meal, in a nice, (somewhat dressed up) locale. I don't want to go into Epcot, and will not do French, for reasons that some think is not PC. Further, I really don't feel like sitting next to folks in swimsuits, but soft collar is ok, as it is now the way of the world. Is Artist point decent. I am throwing a party at Jiko the night before, so that's out. Anything off property.

Thanks for the time to rant. I feel better now.

Hi there...

How about the California Grill at the Contemporary? If you time it right you may see the fireworks too.

My family likes the prime rib buffet at 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian. I've also heard good things about Shula's and Yachtmen's Steakhouse as well if you like steak.

I'd suggest Citrico's as an alternative. It's also in the Grand Floridian. The California Grille is nice, too, but you're more liable to find a shorts + T-shirt atmosphere there than at Citrico's. It sounds like that might bother you. Plus I'm told Citrico's is popular with Disney execs. Since they're probably eating on an expense account, that's high praise.

And in V&A's defense, the reason they have the two seatings is because they serve a fixed 5-course meal. A table will take close to three hours to complete their meal, so they just do the two seatings.

I do hear what you are saying, but I think it is very different in the case of V&A as there are only 2 seatings due to the format and length of the set menu. But here's a suggestion why don't you just book for 8.45 and turn up 8.30 - I thought WDW asked you to turn up 15 mins before a PS anyway.

If you've now decided you don't want to eat there now anyway then here's another vote for California Grill - if you can't get a window table overlooking MK can I suggest asking for a table in what's called the Wine Room it's quieter and a little more intimate IMHO.
