The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

My mom bought me this sling for Luca...I put him in it and took him right back out. Returned it to the store that same day. My gut just told me something wasn't right about it....THANK GOODNESS FOR MOTHER'S INSTINCT!!! I'm so sick to my stomach right now...those poor families!
We bought one of those early on. Luckily, Sarah absolutely hated it and we returned it.

One of DH's friend loaned us their sling (different model, but similar). I used it once on Emma and she fell asleep. I tried using it one more time and she HATED it! Needless to say, I haven't used it since. After reading the article and hearing stories on the news, I was SO thankful I didn't continue to use it! My heart was so upset last night the more I thought about it! I'm not sure what I would do if something had happened to Emma! :guilty: I just cried and cried thinking of those poor parents!! :sad1:

I feel the same way... now that our DD is here I can"t imagine life without her. I can't even begin to understand how those parents might feel. So sad :sad2:

On a different note.... Did anyone's LO have baby acne? I feel like DD had a few spots on her cheek a few days ago and now it is a lot more on her cheek and on her chin as well. I read that it is normal for babies to have this, but I just feel so bad. I don't think that there is anything that I can do, but I am just patting it with a warm washcloth morning and night. I have her one month appt on Monday so I will ask about it then, but I was just wondering in the meantime if anyone has had any experience with this.

OMG, Emma had it so bad I thought she had eczema! But it went away! I did use Aquaphor on it, but it's fairly common.

Finger foods...

When does a finger food become a choking hazard? I usually envision a coin of hotdog as the go to choking hazard, but she could barely fit something that big in her mouth right now.

Lily is still gagging on just about anything solid, but she definitely wants to experiment with finger foods. She'll eat a bit of banana, but mainly just makes a mess. I read that canned fruit was a good idea. Do I need to worry about her getting choke-worthy piece in her mouth?

We gave her half a cheerio, and she gagged on it. I know gagging isn't the same as choking...is it a natural part of the process?

Yeah, we have one, but she'd rather chew on the handle than the food. :teeth:

Six months after delivery....we are just NOW getting Alex's hospital bill. It high. So the hospital is getting $25 a month and the doctors are getting another $50 a month. I really hate hate hate high deductables!!!

Elliott is 2 months old today!! Where has the time gone??

Monday I go back to work. I will miss E terribly, but I am in total need of adult time!! We went to the sitter's today to drop off all his necessities. Elliott will be the only one there (she is an in-home sitter), until the middle of April, when a little girl that is 8 days younger than Elliott will start.

Awwwwww!!

Hope your first day back is good. It gets better day by day, or at least it did for me.

Lilliana gagged and got sick on all solid food up until a few weeks ago, now she will eat almost everything. She will be 10 months on the 28th so right around 9 months she started eating more texture. I started with stage 3 foods for a few day's and now she's eating great.

Sarah, you could try foods that are easily mashed or grated. If you can break down the food without using your teeth (so just try to squash it with your tongue and roof of your mouth) then it should be ok. DS can eat little pieces of bread, puffs, noodles, mashed/baked potatoes, and soft fruits and vegetables. We haven't given Cheerios because they are way harder to mash than puffs. A choking hazard would really be anything that could fit through a toilet paper tube. So that leaves a lot! I think lots of babies gag on new food since they are used to puree or liquids.

I can't wait to see the reactions to the Easter bunny. DS2 is interested in finding out what type of prize the EB will be giving. I'm going to hide something in my bag in case he doesn't. I'm not looking forward to the $$$ pictures. :headache:

Thanks for the shoe guesstimates. He's a size 5. The Children's Place is having 50% off the marked down price for dressy Easter outfits and shoes.

Cute pictures of Lucas and Elliott. :)

Katie is still toothless. She loves mashed potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, chicken noodle soup (cut up small with a fork), puffs, and mum mum cookies. The puffs and cookies dissolve in their mouths. She loves bits of anything sweet, too! She sucks on apples, and likes little bits of strawberries. I can't wait until watermelon is in season (for her and me!).

I was home again today. Katie threw up all over me on the way out the door this morning. I called in, and was on the way to school with the older kids when ds12 started vomiting. So I left dd10 and brought the other 2 back home. I think it is allergies for ds12 and for Katie (along with what I still think is painfully slow teething!). The pollen count here is 10.5 out of 12.

Thanks. They are looking at any reason to let teachers go here. I'm the last one hired, they've only had 2 math teachers for years (I'm the 3rd), and I've missed a butt load of days. I'm really worried, and just want my contract so I'll know I have a job next year! But the legislature just adjourned until the end of April, with no budget agreement, so we won't know anything until May. We had the same problem last year. I got the call from my new boss that I was hired the day before Katie was born, May 13! I resigned that day, then went on maternity leave until school was out.

Wow! 6 months?? I was discharged on Saturday and got the bill on Monday. :scared1: It was over $10k not even including my OB or anesthesia.
My hospital apparently doesn't mess around. :upsidedow

We got really really lucky... all prenatal and maternity care is excluded from the deductible for us (and covered 100%). Otherwise that $703 dating ultrasound really would have hurt.
Talk about ridiculous... almost a grand for an ultrasound. :sad2:

Some of you remember my experience. I had Katie on Thursday, and on Friday someone from the billing dept called and asked how much I could pay right then, and if there was someone in the room who could bring it now!

Yeah, that was MESSED UP! I would have been furious.

**************

I went to those consignment sales today. Chanon, the PolkaDotTots one was MUCH better than the Three Bags Full one. Though Three Bags Full had pictures of their other sales up and they were much larger.

They had a bunch of people there selling jewelry, Tupperware, Avon, personalized kids books, etc... and a bunch of brand new wooden toys like a store would have. :confused3 The prices were much higher than the PolkaDotTots, too. I think we'll definitely go back up to the PDT one in the fall, if we're not hugely pregnant. :rotfl:

I am most excited about this! http://www.amazon.com/MEGA-Bloks-Fi...e=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1269644551&sr=8-5 I got it brand new for $10! I know Lucas will love it, he loves playing with the other shape/block toys he has.

Got a ton of board books in a bag for $1, 3 Nuby sippie cups for $2, some 24m summer stuff for him (most of what I have is 18m) and a brand new set of the "Give a Mouse a Cookie" books for $4. I think there are 4 books in the set. I didn't really look. :upsidedow
We were late-ish. New mom presale started at 7:30 and we got there at 8:30 and tons of stuff had sold tags. Car seats (which I still can't imagine buying used... don't they recommend you buy those NEW?) and an adorable rocking horse. They had Dr. Brown's and Avent bottles 4 in a bag for $4! I was shocked!

We also hit BRU- buy, buy,BABY (which we both LOVED compared to BRU).. I got one of those pacifier medicine dispensers and they had TONS of double strollers, they even had the one I got on Ebay.. Also, got Lucas one of those collapsible camping type chairs to use at the beach. I'm going to try to figure out a way to attach a strap to it so I can buckle him in.

We had a good day. I brought Chipotle and Cheesecake Factory home for dinner, yummy.

Anyway--- I really do recommend buy, buy,BABY.... It was GREAT! :thumbsup2

DH just left to go get the boy, I miss him already! Funny how I never seem to miss him when my parents have him but my MIL is a completely different story...

DS has got bad gas recently and I would like your thoughts on Mylicon and Gripe Water.
I read you can put both in his bottles at every feeding to help with the gas.
