The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

My four year old hates to sleep to.. I can so feel your pain. She is happiest if I let her just stay up late with me, and then if she can come sleep with me! She slept in my bed exclusively until she was 2. Maybe closer to 3.:rolleyes1 She still doesnt sleep through the night. SHe is up off and on all night. :confused3 Im not a great sleeper either, so I figure she is like me. She is also the kid who is closest to me.. she comes with me everywhere. Seriously.. to the bathroom and everything! There is no privacy with this kid in the house!:lmao: I never let her cry it out, I just let her go more on her own schedule. But it was easier for me, since I stayed home. I think some kiddos just have different sleep patterns. My oldest goes to bed at 8.. Every night. If he is tired, he goes to bed. Sleeps all night, and is up around 6. Thats what works for him. Kaylee is a stay up late, sleep late kinda gal. The twins are the same way.. Jasmine goes to sleep about an hour or two before Vinny. Just how it works for them.

We are having to crack down a little more for Kaylee.. She starts school in the fall and will have all day kindy. So she needs to get up when Alex does. Cant wait for that. :headache: BTW... I dont think she is ready for all day kindy, but that is just me.

I totally agree with getting cuddles in while you can. Even the twins are to busy for snuggles. They much prefer getting into things! Vinny will cuddle with me though. He is such a mamas boy.

We have one great sleeper and one that does ok most of the time, so far. The kids aren't allowed to sleep in our bed so they are always in their cribs. If our LO wakes up in the middle of the night he gets comforted in his room and if he won't go back down he nurses with me in our room. But once he's asleep he's back in his own bed. He's been waking up just once the last few nights. I think he's got more teeth coming in.

My first has slept in his own bed since he was about 4 months old. He rarely wakes up. Maybe if he's lost his wubi or if he's sick. I used to think twins would be fun too. ;)

It's almost naptime for them both so I'll be able to eat the last piece of chocolate cake in peace. :dance3:

It looks like we are stroller shopping. Come November/December, we are going to need a double.

We're old. There's no time to wait.

Congrats from another old (37:goodvibes) parent!

We don't even try the crib anymore. It is where I keep the extra diapers. She is asleep, right now, next to me, in bed, nursing. She only sleeps next to me. Except at daycare. She sleeps on the floor on a mat there, but they say she doesn't sleep well. Oh well, she is the last, and she is rotten.

I have to work until 7:30 tomorrow. We have open house after school. And a meeting at 6:30. So dh has to get Katie, who will have to stay at daycare from 7am to 5pm, which sucks. I usually get her by 4. And she nurses as soon as we get home. She is going to throw a fit!

I just got back from the visitation at the funeral home for my sister's friend. I almost broke down when I spoke to her mother. No mother should have to stand at her child's casket. And then I had to hug her husband and son. Then I just had to get out of there.

Awesome! Are you going to head back over to the Moms-To-Be thread? :cool1:

I think I paid that much after the insurance paid their part!

That was what my insurance paid. :rotfl: I thought it was crazy! I got a $4,000 bill to insurance labeled "Surgery" from my OB. I assumed that was just for the c-section. Insurance discounted it down to $2200, paid it in full, and I never saw another bill. I called their office and was like "uhh... I think I'm missing a bill" and they go "Nope, that was it. All your prenatal care and delivery was included." :scared1:
I felt like she got majorly ripped off and told Tom I was tempted to send her a muffin basket or something. :rotfl:
Though, she doesn't do any of my lab draws or ultrasounds (other than urine specimens, they do handle collection of those in office but send them out to another lab). The hospital does that. So there is part of the difference- it seems like most of you had OB practices that did that stuff in-office?

I think that's what the OB's pay for medical insurance to cover their behinds in case of malpratice or lawsuits. (Or is malpratice or lawsuits the same thing?)

And $2200 is cheap! I know we paid quite a bit more.

Yeah, I know, but isn't that INSANE? I was trying to say that if all my OB gets is ~$2200 per baby and I doubt she delivers a baby a day and still has to pay insurance premiums, office rental space and for her staff... how do they make any money?? :confused3 Obviously insurance is not that high here but I've heard that WVa. is an expensive state to practice in because of certain laws or something.

I had staples that needed to be removed about a week after delivery. :scared1: My scar is very low below the underwear line, almost in line with the bottom of my hip bone.

My incision was very low. Way below my undies.

Staples freak me out! :scared1: If I got a different OB and they used staples I'd probably be pissed. Like I said- dissolvable sutures and she didn't see me after the hospital until 6w PP.

That is insane about everyone's scars... seems like mine is the odd one. I wonder why it's so high? It was a PITA to get to heal because it's RIGHT where I wear my pants (like I said, right in line with my hip bones!)... I wore cotton dresses and PJ pants rolled down for weeks. Anything rubbing on it hurt like Hades! I had taken jeans to the hospital to wear home and I was about to die by the time we got here (a 5 minute drive, that is it!)...

I've already been to Old Navy and bought several of their cotton dresses for wear with this baby. I assume she'll go in through the old scar, anyway...

We went shopping today! I so love Target. I wish they'd had a bigger maternity section, though. I loved the maternity swimsuit I got there last year and would have liked to get another!

Sarah, I checked out the diaper bags, too! I didn't buy one because I'm still up in the air on getting the double or whether a single will be enough.

Anyone who has a kid that is potty training (really can't remember, sorry) Target has $1/off Up & Up Training Pants coupons on the bottles of shampoo/lotion/baby wash and the training pants are clearanced out. At least they were at the one I went to. I thought i'd post, I've sorta become bargain lady. :rotfl: They also have .75c/ Up & Up wipes (took advantage of that one, their wipes aren't that expensive to begin with!) and .50c/ Up & Up toiletries coupons on the training pants. I got petroleum jelly since we slather that stuff all over Lucas. :rotfl:

We also went to the Stride Rite store and got him fitted for his first pair of shoes. Since he's not walking yet, just pulling up, so we got it a size too big. There isn't a store here locally so we just did it while we were there. They're too cute! He's growing up too fast. :(

Mine went through the same scar and it already looks better than the last one did.

A while back you guys were talking about milk prices, I went the other day and it was $4.29 in town. :scared1: I can find it much cheaper if I go further away but paying $4.29 for store brand is crazy.

Holy crap, that is high! I just paid $3.69 for the "name brand" Chocolate. Seems like Chocolate is generally more, too.

I guess I'm lucky milk is still 1.99 where I live.

Has anyone tried the new Wheatables NutCrisps? OMG (in Barney's voice from How I Met Your Mother...) Awesome!!! The toasted pecan is yummy!

We're lucky too. Milk was $1.79 at Walmart. Yea! Patsy, what size shoe did you end up getting? I've had a hard time deciding what size to get since LO is usually asleep when I'm looking at the shoes. ;)

Robin, I meant to ask-- Katie had a reaction to amoxicillin, right?

Last night, in a matter of hours (between diaper changes) Lucas broke out in a MAJOR rash. It starts in his diaper area and is spreading down his legs and now up on his belly. :( It was shortly after we gave him his second dose of amoxicillin.
I called the on-call pediatrician (I'm getting bad about that :rotfl:) and she told me it was a yeast infection and to put Nystatin on it. Except it's not getting better and he SCREAMS when you put that stuff on him. :( It seems to be spreading more from patches to cover-all, too.

I'm planning on calling the pediatrician tomorrow and taking him in.. They're only open until noon on Thursday/Friday and he is spending tomorrow night at my MIL's house so I'd rather him be seen before the weekend, just in case.

My thoughts are it's more than a yeast infection. DH and my dad are both allergic to penicillin and amoxicillin is in the same "family" isn't it?
Anyway, I thought you'd mentioned something about allergies and amoxicillin too.
Also, what did you do to help Katie with the rash? :(

TY....I need pullups! I'll have to check our target on Friday. I need to check out the huggies coupon thread too and print someout (if i'm not too late)

Holy Cow (ha ha no pun intended) You aren't that far from me. We are 3.79-3.99, but I buy whole milk for the boys. My oldest is so skinny that pedi suggested keeping him on whole milk for the extra calories.

We got a 6W for CJ over the weekend. She first tried a 5.5 and that's what he measured, but he is really big top to bottom off foot, ontop of wide, all my kids are this way, that she went up. He's doing great w/them! I can't believe how fast he went from a couple steps to completely walking around.

5M. He has really fat feet (fat as in tall, not wide) so we got sandals that completely open up. He was really hating us trying to get his feet into a shoe shoe. He didn't seem to mind these at all so they were winners.

We got these:
http://www.striderite.com/shopping/...at=411&iSubCat=418&iProductID=2472&sColor=857
ok, did they try and get you w/the buy 1 get 1 1/2 off bit?? I went in and brought ty to get the 1/2 off. He doesn't need sneaks, but he's getting there, I prob would have gotten before vacation. So I had my 1 and 1 for 1/2 off. well, she got water shoes out and said how w/the sale, they were suggesting going up a size and getting water shoes...I was sold. of course not for my oldest, he does flip flops, but I got cute ones...sneaker type bottom for CJ and Brady so they're ready for WDW  I would have completely forgotten if she hadn't tried to upsell me. So all I really needed at the time was the $45 shoes for CJ and I walked out w/4 pairs of shoes at 125...UGH!

It was Augmentin, and the dr. told me that she can never have any penicillin based antibiotics. She didn't act like it bothered her, so I don't think we put anything on it. I had to give her Benadryl for several days because they were worried about her throat closing up from the hives. The nurse scared me half to death when I called. When I got there, the nurse took her around to all the younger nurses so they would know what an allergic reaction looked like!

No, I didn't know about the sale until I got home and saw the website. She didn't mention it. Grrr. Though, I don't know that we would have bought another pair anyway. We spent a ton of money today and those things are NOT cheap. :headache:

We were happy with the sandals because 1) he's not walking yet but he's pulling up and using the ottoman/furniture to hold on to so he can move around. I figure that means he is getting close. I thought about pulling out the Step Start Walk-N-Ride thing we got him to see how he likes it but I want to get the living room DVD and toy free first so he doesn't trip on something. :rotfl:
and 2) That is all he will need over the summer, so seemed silly to buy another shoe he may or may not be able to wear this fall. We won't *really* need water shoes because I doubt we'll let him in the ocean in May (too chilly!) and my parents pool can be gone in w/o shoes. That is the only other exposure he will have with water so seemed unnecessary. The sandals are able to get wet so he can wear them around their pool at least, to keep from slipping.

I did the Target Huggies thing today. I printed 6 of the $3 Huggie coupons that were floating around out there but only used 4 at Target because I could only print 4 of the Target $1.50 coupons. I plan to use the others at CVS next week! Not bad to get diapers for $4.49/pack!
I also did the SoBe Life Water thing.. there are B1G1 coupons on their website and .50c Target ones on theirs. They're 10/$10 and if you buy 10 you get a $5 gift card. I made a buck by using 4 of each of the coupons. ;)

Robin, thanks for the quick response! I called my cousin (she is a pharmacist) and told her what was going on. She said it sounded like an allergic reaction and we shouldn't give him anymore. I thought it was strange the oncall Dr. said to keep giving it to him. I just can't give him a drug that is making him miserable, even if it IS helping his ear. So we're going to go tomorrow and see the pediatrician. Again. Nothing like 4 trips in about 2 weeks. :rotfl:

Too many "A" antibiotics!

Hope things are better today Patsy!

Thanks for all the sleep stories. We had a good night last night so I'm done fretting over it until the next bad night! lol

I'm hoping to get the Sobe deal, but I can't make it to Target until Saturday, do it'll probably be gone. There's a Target thread on Slickdeals that someone posted a pdf of 6 of the Huggies coupons. I'm hoping to get those too.

Did anyone's kid go down a size in diapers when they started walking/crawling? I'm thinking we may need to buy 5s already, but the 4s fit perfectly right now. She's just moving into 12 months clothes, most of the 9 or 6-9 pants are too short. The shirts fit alright as long as they have a bigger collar or snaps. Then we have some gerber onsies (the decorated kind not the plain ones) that are 3-6 mos and still fit!

So I think we should all start talking about 1st bday parties. If you've already had one--tips? tricks? If not, what are you planning?

I want to have a short party, but I know I won't be able to get rid of family that quickly. I'm trying to decide if I want to have it at our little house or someone else's. We'd have to clean the basement, but hopefully have most of it outside. I bought a bunch of clearance 1st birthday stuff (invites, thank yous, table cloths, napkins, plates) It's kind of a mismach of stuff, but it's all pink and purple and it was cheap!!

Looks like I am making my 7th trip to the hospital in two weeks (1 for OB, 1 @ the ER, 5 for the pediatrician). :rotfl: The pediatrician wants to see Lucas' rash while it's bad to see if it's an allergic reaction *or* just a bad reaction to the antibiotic. Makes sense, I guess. At least I'm getting to know the staff very well!

Sarah, I can't believe that you have 3-6 Gerber that fits her!! Lucas is wearing 24m in Gerber right now! All the Gerber stuff I had ran TINY!!
His waist isn't big enough to hold up 12m pants (most of them anyway) so he wears 9m that are too short... or today, I'm just letting him chill in his sleeper. Most of his height in his torso, though, so the pants are okay.

Lucas didn't go down a diaper size but he's in 4s, comfortably.. some are better than others depending on the Huggies snap, since there seems to be a ton of different ones! He has a skinny waist though.. I think all his weight is in his cheeks!

You could always buy a pack of 5s at Target (isn't that deal great? I don't need diapers but I take advantage of sales :rotfl:) and see how they fit on her.
I heard Pampers is going to start (or has started?) making a size 7 so that is interesting to me. I haven't seen them in stores, though.

Lucas' 1st bday party will be June 6th @ my parent's house. They're heating their pool this year (after the craptastic summer we had last year) so we'll be able to swim for sure that day. I got splash balls for the kids goodie bags and am looking for diving sticks. They do a lot of parties around the pool so it's already setup for one. Tables, chairs, places to serve food, tons of pool stuff (including volleyball which we all stink at!)
I got Lucas one of those intertubes with the harness type thing for an infant on clearance at TRU last year, so he's set for the pool.
I got 1st bday stuff @ Dollar Tree. No balloons allowed (dads rules) around the pool because my cousin's kids are rambunctious and he doesn't want broken pieces in the filter. So I got streamers and stuff.
Cake will be ordered from Sams Club and when we pick it up we're going to get hamburger patties, hot dogs and buns. Local potato chip manufacturer sells HUGE (I think 3lbs?) boxes of their chips at the factory for about $7.. so there are the chips we need. I'll make side dishes on Saturday probably.. baked beans, pasta salad, etc.
And my dad does this sausage stuffed pepper that I'll have to go to the Farmers Market to buy the stuff for. Someone already requested it. :rotfl:
I'm going to watch CVS for soda deals and will buy bottled water @ Sams, too.
Thats it. I'm an obsessive planner so I've had the details figured out for awhile. :rotfl:

I like the idea of having it at my parents for multiple reasons. I still haven't gotten our house entirely put together yet and I'll be pretty pregnant by then. It's also going to run pretty close to the end of the semester and our beach vacation... They also have a great setup and the pool is a great way to entertain people. :0

Hope things are better today Patsy!

We just had Allison's last Saturday. I did a short one at our house. I did 2:30-4:30pm and surprising I got rid of everyone except for my MIL and BILs which was fine bc they travelled 3 hours. I only did cake and ice cream and we kept it as small as possible. I think we had about 24 people or so, but DH and I both come from pretty big families.
Overall, it went pretty well although Allison had a mini meltdown when people got there, but she warmed up pretty quickly.

I guess my advice is to keep it short and try to make it after a nap so Lily is fresh and ready for attention. Good luck planning!

Awesome! Are you going to head back over to the Moms-To-Be thread? :cool1:
I likely will balance between the two threads, but I'm not going to go voer there until we are further along 'just in case'.
Yeah, I know, but isn't that INSANE? I was trying to say that if all my OB gets is ~$2200 per baby and I doubt she delivers a baby a day and still has to pay insurance premiums, office rental space and for her staff... how do they make any money??
I think that this is why you hear of doctors dropping obstetrics, but never dropping gynecology.

Good point.

There is a mom on the other thread that has to find a new practice- her current one is dropping OB in June.

********
Lucas confused them. The NP called in the actual pediatrician to take a look. He said he wasn't sure. There is a bit of a "drug" rash and a bit of Lucas' typical dermatitis (but that was 100% GONE prior to the amox.) and a bit of yeast infection. :headache: Poor, poor kid. The pediatrician said it shouldn't be spreading the way it is.
His ear infection isn't worse so they're dropping the antibiotic and not starting a new one (to try to really determine that this was caused by the amox.). They're not ready to declare him allergic to penicillin but said I need to tell every healthcare provider from here on out that he had a rash with amoxicillin. Gave me a cream that the pedi stressed is very strong and he doesn't prescribe it often. I can't remember what it's called and I already dropped off the Rx. The pharmacy said they needed an hour so we're home and waiting. Plus, I had to pick up another prescription I had at home. At his 9 months his pediatrician gave me a script for a stronger cream for his dermatitis but it cleared up so I didn't fill it. Now I guess I need to. I really do think a lot of his issues are somewhat related to dry heat (it's getting cold again so the heat is kicking on again now)...
My kid and his creams!

I'm going to have to draw a diagram for my MIL tonight, as he has three creams that go on the three different types of rash.
