The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

Ugh, what a night last night! DS10 was up with the stomach flu until about 1:00 am....just in time for Elliott to get up to eat. I probably got 2 and a half hours of sleep last night (been up since 5), and I am not really a napper. Great. Plus, I slept on the couch so I could hear DS when he was up. And now, E does NOT want to nap!! Mama needs a break!!

Although reading about new strollers *really* makes me want one that rides a lot smoother than the Graco....

Guess I'll check out Craigslist... ;)

I LOVE my Jeep stroller. It's super smooth. The wheels are all-terrain (they actually inflate like real tires, when you open the box to assemble it it smells like a new Jeep! :rotfl:) It doesn't fold up super small but I've gone to WDW with it, it turns very easy and can go over curbs and such with a lot of ease thanks to having real tires.
We have the old pattern of this stroller: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_04988725000P?keyword=jeep+stroller

Just a thought! :)

Thanks, Kelli! I saw it and couldn't imagine getting a better deal for one at a consignment sale and it was the last one so I snatched it up!! :cool1:

Are you back to teaching classes yet?
(That is what you do, isn't it? :flower3:)

Hope your DS10 starts to feel better soon.

I call our BRU once a week looking for strollers on clearance...they have no problem checking for me (probably because the clearanced items are right by the main phone...) so maybe just start calling them. :teeth: Can't hurt!

Calling is a great idea! I stopped there today. They had almost nothing on clearance and I didn't see the Jogger Mini at all. I was in a hurry, so I didn't ask.

We got this one a couple weeks back: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3458932

We used a couple babies r us coupons, 20% off any item, and %15 off of any stroller, and I think something else - I know we ended up getting it for almost $100 less than the list price. It folds down teeny tiny, doesn't weigh much, and it turns/steers easily - best part is that it is short so you can manuever around tight spaces. We call it our Disney stroller, and every time we take her out on a walk in it we talk about how great it will be for Disney, LOL. We have our regular one (from the Graco travel system) but that stays in the car and we use it for our regular outings.

I saw that today! I'll have to look more closely. I heard that BRU wasn't accepting the 20% plus the 15% off anymore! Doesn't hurt to try!

Alright, I just bought a stroller on ebay! I've not done any research on these things, just totally took the word of mouth from you all and got a Maclaren. :rotfl:
Kelli, which one do you have??

I got a new 2010 Maclaren Twin Triumph. It said it was used as a floor model. It was $120... which I'm thinking is pretty good. Plus, free shipping.

I was really wanting to check out the consignment sales for a stroller but it sounds like this is as good of a deal as I might have hoped to find there... and it's not a chance! So hopefully I like it when it gets here. :)
That's a steal!! I'll have to go look!

 You poor thing!! I hope the day gets better.

Lily is now getting 2 teeth. The 2 bottom center ones. Fun times. It hasn't been as bad as I was expecting.

I gave a presentation about Literacy and the library at a local Moms group this morning. I think they all thought I was nuts! lol They seemed happy, but I was super hyper and I'm a pretty terrible public speaker. Give me a room full of babies or preschoolers and I'm set, but adults? Meh.

I read them Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and they really enjoyed that. :thumbsup2

Sarah, I wanted to ask you how Lily does when you read to her??

We've tried with Lucas but he a) fights us to get down and play with his toys or b) tries to eat the book. :headache:

Hopefully he'll let us read to him when he gets a little older but he's just not digging it right now. He never wants held, always wants to move... so I think that is the basis of the problem.

Also, how are things with your dad?

Patsy -

I teach dance lessons. I was back doing that when Elliott was 3 weeks old. However, our recital was last week, so I am done with that until October.

My "real" job is a legal assistant in the District Attorney's office. I don't go back until March 29th. I am seriously looking forward to it! I am so not meant to stay at home. I love E to death, but I am ready to get back. My attorney is ready to have me back, too. Things are NOT going well with the girl who stepped in for me. I get almost daily emails, asking me what day I will be back! And telling me that I should just pack up E and bring him to work and put him in his Pack N Play!

She loves it...wants to do it all the time. I am frankly sick of reading to her! :scared1:

Don't stress! MANY babies are like Lucas.
1. Let him chew on board books. Just handling them is really good for little ones. You want him to be comfortable with them.
2. Fill a big basket with lots of board books. He will use them like toys--pulling them in and out, playing with the basket, etc, but he will start opening the books and looking at the pages.
3. Try reading on the floor while he's playing with the books, even if he's ignoring you. I do this a lot in storytime. The kids will be playing with the books/basket and I'll open one up next to them and read it and do number 4.
4. Be super enthusiastic. "Wow! Lucas, look at the kitty! He has soft fur!"
5. Pick books with bright colors and flaps and textures. Lily's favorites are the DK Peekaboo series. The flaps are nice and thick so she won't rip them and they have touch and feel parts too.
DK Peekaboo board books

Is he into mirrors at all? Lily is really into it right now, so her favorite book is this one:
Baby Faces Peekaboo
It has a mirror at the end. She likes to make out with herself...lots of tongue! :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

Just remember to keep it positive and enthusiastic. And don't force or push it. I would try it at least once a day though. I find she's more receptive to certain things at certain times. Maybe he isn't a read to me at night baby yet. Maybe try it in the morning or before a nap. Or do the basket trick when he's playing. HTH :thumbsup2

My dad is okay. He's been babysitting with my mom and putting in applications. Nothing looks promising though. He's really depressed when he's at home. He loves being around Lily though. They are going to cash out the 401k when he turns 55 next month. I guess part of the stimulus package included decreasing the penalty for early withdrawl for those over 55. It's going to save them $17,000 in taxes.

I have found that the twins really like books with babies in them... They really get into it!

I dont think that babies r us carries the city mini in stores.. I have never seen it. If you check out the higher end boutique baby stores they might have one in stock for you to check out. We dont have many here, and of course no one carries the doubles.

This is the only thing Lucas will sit through:
http://www.amazon.com/Tickle-Monste...=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1268420918&sr=1-2

My parents got it when they went on vacation, said as soon as he sees the mits he smiles. :rotfl:

I might try to read to him before his nap. Maybe that will work. I'll look to see if I have a basket somewhere, too. He loves to play with the basket in the living room that I keep his toys in.

Well crap! I just assumed they would have them. They aren't very high end to me? They only retail for $229, my BRU has a lot of stroller way more expensive than that!

I don't know of any high end stores around here...maybe something in Beachwood. I wonder if Baby Jogger has a retailer site.

Thanks for telling me that!!

I thought my paper was due at 5, but I have until midnight. I got 4 pages done at school today, out of the 8 mandatory. It is probably enough for the 31 (redid the grades-only need a 31 for an A), but I just can't half-xxx it! Just the teacher in me I guess.....

I went back to try to find a post about school, but couldn't find it.
Did I imagine it or did you say you were done?

I kept meaning to reply and kept forgetting and now I can't find it! :rotfl:

Was curious if the statistics class (you said your very last one, right? How awesome!) will be online? I took it online and it was delivered through Pearson's "My Stat Lab" program a few summers ago.

I'm officially on SPRING BREAK!! :cool1:

So I looked to see if I could find a high end store...lmao turns out I have one of the most highly rated baby stores right down the street! Didn't know it exsisted! It was even featured in Baby Bargains! lol I know what I'm doing tomorrow!

I found a lady on craigslist selling a twin techno for $200. SHe is throwing in all the accessories too... Its a dang good deal, but she is two hours away from me! I dont know..

Patsy, I'm glad to see you on today. I was doing some reading last night and thought of you.....I was going to email, but my internet went out for the 3rd night in a row. Good thing I am between terms right now or I'd be screwed!

I just got back from the dr. with all 3 kids! Katie has been running a low grade fever since Tuesday, and has been fussy, but I thought maybe she was finally cutting a tooth (she'll be 10 mos Sunday and there has been no sign of one!). She hasn't eaten much the last 2 nights, and only had one bottle at daycare the last 2 days. Last night, I picked her up after supper and she was burning up-fever was 102. We were up and down all night, alternating Tylenol and Motrin. Ds12 was fine until about 8pm, then told me his throat hurt. He came in about 4am, while I was up with Katie, and told me that he was sick, then started vomiting. Dd10 isn't sick, but has had a fever blister for almost 2 wks, so I took her too.

Ds12 has strep, Katie has a virus (or the dr thinks she does-I still think she is teething), and dd10's fever blister has a secondary infection?

I had to drive 15 min east to get my assignments together at school, drive back home, call the dr, then drive 45 min west to the dr's office, then home. I'm tired! Katie is finally sleeping, but ds12 is miserable. Dh if getting their prescriptions filled now. Ds12 was just too sick to have to go by the pharmacy on the way home.

Thank goodness next week is our spring break!

I just checked my zip.. and they say that our babies r us carried them. But I havent ever seen one there. :confused3 I have even looked in the single stroller section, just to get a feel..

They didn't show up at my BRU. Weird. Can't wait to go check it out. i can't believe I didn't know it was there. it's in Willoughby Hills...I am the children's librarian at the Willoughby Library...if anyone knew, it should be me! I've driven past it a million times! lol

In my defense, for a high end store, it's in a weird location. Technically WH is the nicest city around here, but that particular area borders a really crap part of another city and is nitorious for drugs and crime. :confused3

What constitutes a "high end store"? We have nothing here. Consignment shops (Once Upon a Child) and a TRU with a very small selection. I really want to check out buy, buy, baby when I go to Columbus in a few weeks!

Will she ship it? Might be worth asking her!

Man! You've had your fair share of vomit and sickness, haven't you?? :scared1:

I'm officially on SPRING BREAK!! :cool1:

I finished that class, and got an A:banana:! It almost did me in though. I'm so glad I didn't take it early in the program, or I don't know that I would have continued. Stats is online-starts Monday. I had to buy software, but don't remember the name right now. It comes with a book called Statistics for People Who Don't Think They Like Statistics, so maybe it won't be so bad!

I'm on spring break at work, but the stats class starts Mon. At least that way I can get ahead a few lessons (I hope). The professor has already emailed a syllabus, and will have specific assignments online Monday (according to her email).

This program is 100% online. I take tests on my computer with something called a remote proctor attached. It is a webcam and fingerprint sensor. I've had to do some things out of the house-like go to AA meetings for my group counseling class during my last trimester:rotfl:, and go to the Catholic Church for my multicultural class (the one you all helped me with!), but that is so much better than leaving the kids several nights a week and driving over an hour to the nearest college with a grad program.

*****

I keep a basket of books in the bedroom and in the living room. Katie loves them. Target had a ton of board books in their dollar section a few weeks ago, and I bought one of each!
