The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

Sarah- ive heard that cutting teeth takes a lot of energy for a baby so they do often become hungrier than normal. Jake is taking in 5 extra ounces a day (during the night) due to his teeth.... have you felt any bumps on the gum?

I have another crazy question!!

Went to a family baby shower last night- cousin that just had c-section (@ hospital I won't deliver at) and cousin that works on the L&D floor at that hospital were there.
I was talking to cousin that just had baby and she was talking about how when they got home she had to beat her SO a bit because he hadn't strapped baby into her carseat all the way! It was pretty snowy/slick when they went home, too.

Anyway, where I delivered they made DH go get the infant seat and bring it to my room. They inspected it, then they personally strapped Lucas in, adjusted the straps and took us out where they checked the base before they snapped him in. So I was surprised that they didn't check her at all.

Did your hospital check your baby seat?

Oh, and my cousin that works on the L&D floor asked if I was going to deliver there and when I said "no" she called me a traitor. :rotfl:

Nope-they didn't check us. I don't think they did with the other two either. (I remember thinking with ds12 that I couldn't believe they were just sending me home with him when I didn't have a clue what to do!:rotfl2:) Dh brought in the carrier, strapped her in, and carried her out. If I remember correctly, they were swamped and I just walked out by myself, too.

:

I only know about NICU escape proceedings..... :goodvibes But yes, the hospital made sure that we had an infant carrier, all my babies also had to pass a "carseat test" -- basically still on hospital monitors & strapped into the carseat for at least an hour making sure that the baby's oxygen levels, heartrate & breathing were all stable. And it made sense, I mean the babies had spent all their time on their backs (sometimes bellies) NOT sitting. So nobody wanted these preemies to escape the NICU only to have an issue in the car on the way home! Our hospital also had a nurses assistant that carried the baby out to the front and made sure baby was "clicked in."

Ours did a car seat check before we could leave (which was good, because I couldn't remember how to adjust the straps, and the nurse had a seat just like it, so she showed me!).

One thing I found funny was that when we were checking in on the L&D floor, they asked us a bunch of questions, and one of them was "Do you have a place to go when you are discharged with heat, water, and electricity?" I wa taken aback by the question, but the nurse said they had quite a few people that had nowhere to go with the baby.

I got checked with my first.. The came out to the car and even made sure everything was put in right. But after that, I was on my own. We did have to have a car seat test with the twins because they were born early. But once they got back from the special care nursery, we popped them out and changed them and popped them back in ourselves. They did help us out with the twins, just because we had so much stuff.... Otherwise we would have been on our own again.

Nope, they drop you off at the curb and away you go. Once the nurse checks you out she calls for a wheelchair and you are done. I think most people brought it inside and carried the baby out in it, which is what we did 2x. Maybe that's why I wasn't asked? It was just easier than trying to put them in it out in the parking lot.

I know you have to have a carseat but no one checked the car at all. If you don't have one, the hospital will provide a basic one that can be strapped into the car without a base.

I delievered at 2 different hospitals and they both made us bring seat in and strap child in. they didn't strap them in, but they checked it out and gave us pointers w/my oldest. They went out to car with us to make sure they were strapped into car as well.

we also had the carseat test w/cj, because of the nicu stay. thank goodness he passed. I have 2 friends who's kids didn't and they had the car beds.

We had our car seat checked with both kids. I'm glad though cause with DS5 I didn't even know how to adjust the thing. :rotfl:

Did anyone see the Pampers commercial this morning? It was on during the Today show from 8am -9am. I submitted a video of Lilliana of her crawling and she was chosen to be in a commercial. It aired this morning...:lovestruc

No, our hospital does not even bat an eye at your carseat. We did bring it in and put the baby in the seat there, but we did it ourselves, no one was even in the room. Well, with Scarlett the tech who wheeled me out was there, and he was helping, but only cause the baby was in her snowsuit and NOT fitting in the seat cause it had this foam insert for babies under 10lbs. So we had to remove that insert (which was optional, we didn't just take it upon ourselves to alter the seat), so the guy was helping Joey, but mostly just cause he knew him, and he just had a baby the month before us and had the same issue. He had no actual training or knowledge or anything.

Caitty - That is so cool that Liliana was in the commercial! I didn't see it cause I think I was up on and off the entire night and was napping periodically all morning, but I'll have to ask my husband as I believe he was watching that show this morning.

I didn't see the commercial, but that is so cool!

I spent today stressing over my final. I had 4 separate assignments due by midnight tonight. I got 3 done yesterday (was up until 1am), but I just finished my final test-and got an A!!!! I have been in a state of panic over it all week. Thank goodness it is over. I have 2 more assignments due between now and Friday, and this class is done! And I already have a B, even if I didn't do the last 2, so the pressure is off! I want an A, but at this point I can live with a B. I have to finish another class over spring break, and start my last class that week (2 wks from tomorrow). As of May 8, I am done with my masters, and with school unless I lose my mind again!

I had 4 stays in L&D before I actually had Lucas and was asked that question EVERY time I was there, when they were "checking me in". It's probably super common around here, unfortunately. :sad1: Breaks your heart a little bit.

Another one of those interesting factoids to learn... everywhere is so different!

That is AWESOME!!! :banana::banana:

Congrats December! What a great feeling it must be to almost be finished. I wish that I could have remained a student forever! I keep telling my niece and nephew don't be in a hurry to get out because you have the best job right now. Read a book, write a report, make some art, play some sports, take a test, and repeat. Of course it's hard work too!

I was almost out of diapers for my LO and was going to go tomorrow to get some. I have enough to get me through a couple days, but need to stock up. I was putting some clothes away in my older sons closet and saw a Huggies box. I thought it had clothes or toys in it that got pushed to the back. Nope! Diapers! :woohoo: They have been hiding in there for almost 3 years! :rotfl: The gift receipt was still attached.

That is as just as exciting as finding a $20 in your pocket!! :rotfl:

Anyone use Drop-Ins?? CVS clearanced out their 50ct boxes of the 8-10oz Playtex Liners. I went for the Huggies diaper deal and saw those. They were $2.75 a box . I bought all they had and went to the other CVS up the road and bought them out, too. Plus, I had a $1 coupon :rolleyes1
I came home with 7 boxes and DH was like.. "Do I even want to know?" :rotfl:

How funny!! I know when my kids outgrew a size, we would put it back for our next baby... I think we used up all the leftovers when the twins came, but I had quite the collection! Mostly because my kids outgrow diapers so fast. We are already in size 6. Can you believe it??

So we are having HUGE issues trying to get the twins on milk. They have had diarrhea for two days. Let me tell you, my whole freaking house smells. Its disgusting. Having two babies with exploding butts is NO FUN. Plus my husband has had a lot of overtime this weekend... So it has been all me. I really dont know what to do. We wont get anymore formula from WIC, and they need to be on milk! Maybe I need to try lactose free stuff. They have had regular formula, and no issues with it. I have been giving them half formula, half milk.. but it isnt helping anything. Vinny completely sprayed me with poop yesterday... My kids thought it was SOOOO funny. Me? Not so much.

It was great to find a surprise after cleaning up all afternoon. I do have one pack of size 3s that I just can't open. It's so stupid! When my DS outgrew the size 3s I wrote the date on them and a little note that said saving for baby #2, maybe someday soon, with an outline of my sons hand. I think I will have to just take a picture and get over it. :upsidedow I keep everything.

Oh my god, that is so gross! I'm sorry. :(
Did the pediatrician have anything helpful to add?
I'm so not looking forward to trying to transition to milk. Lucas HATES the sippy cup, hates anything but his Soy. I'm trying to do more and more solids and less bottles but he gets sooooo excited when he sees a bottle. :rotfl:

I'm going to talk to the pediatrician at Lucas' 9 months about whether or not we're going to need to put him on Soy milk... sorta early, since it won't happen until his 12 months, but I'd like to be prepared mentally for that expense!
How else would they test, beyond me just giving him some? I thought I might try a bottle with regular formula first and see how that goes...

I just cannot get over how much poop you have. :(

I'd go! Sometimes things are uncomfortable but I think your parents look at you and see that they raised someone who won't find themselves in the same position. Given what they're going through right now I'm sure it's a relief to know that their daughter will never have this particular struggle. They'd want you to enjoy what you have worked for!
That is how I see it anyway...

I think we've decided to go in August. We'll see how we all handle it and if everything goes well, we'll go in December too. We'll have plenty of time to cancel the december trip if we need to help my parents.

DH is the same way about our savings. I want to put part of it in a Roth or a CD, but he always says, "what if we need it." I'm like that's what the other $10k is for. lol

Not really, I don't think. She is still toothless, but has been a lot less fussy. Tho I have a product to rave about...Hyland's Teething Tablets. (some on here might have recommended them?) I used them 4 times over the weekend and every time she fell asleep right after we gave them to her. She went from super fussy unhappy to sleeping contentedly. Based on that I'd think it was teething. Still waiting for results though! :headache:

We didn't have our carseat checked at the door, but we did bring the carrier up and they looked her over then.

OMG that's so cool! Did they pay you? (If you don't mind my asking)

december--congrats!

You poor thing!! I don't have any advice just

Sarah - She does get paid, they said somthing about the guild actor rates. It was exciting seeing her in a national commercial.

I posted it on Facebook if you want to check it out.

Sweet! I'll go check it out.

Found it! Gotta love the army crawl! Too cute!
