The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

I know it has a 5pt and can be used from 20lbs, but can you use it rear-facing? The Britax version, the Frontier, is forward facing only and I believe it says age 2. So with that you'd still need another carseat for Lucas till he is at least a year. I know he's over 20lbs, but the rearfacing-forward facing conversion is way more about age than just weight. At his age they simply don't have the muscle development to prevent injury in the event of a crash if he's forward facing. In fact the AAP has changed is recommendation from 20lbs AND 1 year to "the rear-facing limits of the carseat". So if he's outgrown the rear-facing limits on the carrier then you need a convertible seat that has a higher RF limit (they are usually around 35lbs.).

I seriously don't want to start another feud, but our friends lost their child in a car accident due to this very reason and have become local carseat advocates as a result so I have learned a lot. I know the Nautilus isn't cheap, but if it can't be installed rearfacing then you should buy a convertible seat that you can use in the interim.

Thanks for posting this! DH took out the carrier/car seat yesterday and put in our new one. We debated putting it forward facing since the directions said 20 pounds plus and she's a little over 19. Luckily we went rear facing.

And this is coming from someone who installed carseats at TRU all the time back in the day. I'm really surprised we didn't know better!
Subing in :)

We have decided to go with the flow and see if God has plans for us to have a 3rd.

We have Irish twin girls Katie 3.5 and Abby 2.5, and I have been on BC since having Abby, as I was sure we would have had three under 2 if I was not on it. Now that life is getting easier (is that possible with kids), we have decided that I am done with BC and to just see what happens.

Welcome! Just so you know, there is a great Mommies to be thread if you are blessed with a new bun. There's also a Moms to Toddlers thread. I'm not exactly sure how all the ages stack up. I think the oldest on this thread is around 1? 18 months?

Not that it matters! Lots of our moms have older kids too and we can always benefit from your wisdom. Just thought maybe you'd like to join the other threads too! :thumbsup2

Our state is trying to make it so that you have to rear face until your baby is two. I forward faced early with my older two... but things are so dif. nowadays.. We have the room, we have the car seats that go rear facing until 40lbs.. So we are rear facing as long as we can.

How is that possible? I know the Safety 1st (Alpha Omega Elite or something like that??) goes rear facing to 35lbs but there is NO WAY Lucas will be under 35lbs by the time he is 2. :scared:

He was 22lbs 7 weeks ago!!! We go to the pediatrician soon for his 9 month... but I can't find the card so I'm going to have to call to ask when it is. Bad me, unorganized mommy!

Justine, we still have both in the car. His infant seat goes to 30lbs and is behind the driver side but we put the other one behind the passenger seat. We tried it the one night just to play with the harness and stuff.
The box was huge and I was tired of storing it so I put the seat in the car and tossed the box! :rotfl:

I bought a new carseat this weekend, too. I had bought the cheap $55 Cosco, but it is so hard to get her in and out of. They had the nice Evenflo Triumph clearanced from $160 down to $70 this weekend! So I bought it, and we put the cheaper one (with pink flowers:lmao:) in dh's truck. We usually go places in mine, but since he works 5 min from daycare, and I work in the next town, it makes sense for him to have a carseat. It can face back up to 35 pounds (she weighs 19 lbs). She'll stay in that position for as long as possible!

I went to the other daycare in town today to talk to them. When I picked Katie up Fri, she was outside, strapped in a wagon, screaming her head off. Snot flying, covered in cheetos! And she had a huge scratch on her leg. I'm just not happy, but don't know whether to move her now, or wait until after the summer. I just don't know.........

Walmart had a ton of Disney clothes Sat. They had tshirts started at $5, and whole outfits starting at $9. I bought my nephew and dd10 a new tshirt, and Katie a princess outfit. Ds12 can't wear kids' sizes, so nothing for him. I can't wait for spring break so I can pull out everything and see what I have and what I need for our trip!

Oh lord! Im sorry.. I would pull her out now! That is just awful, the poor baby!

I know.....I go back and forth. I can't stand the owners (mother and daughter-the mother is the one who told me on a Thu that she wouldn't be moved to the 1 yr old room until I start back in the fall, and then moved her up on MONDAY! She was only 8 mos old). I just love the ladies in the baby room. I still drop her off there in the mornings, and she has to go to the 1yr old room around 8 or 9. She loves her "Ms. LoLo." The other daycare is $15 a week more. They just opened this year under new ownership (same managers), and they don't know if they are going to make the teachers pay all summer or not. The current daycare doesn't. If I wait and switch her until school is out, I won't have to pay for June and July, and maybe even August (legislature is considering pushing school starting back to after Labor Day). I just don't know if I can wait 3 months.......

It isn't just the money. I really do love some of the ladies at the current one. If the owners weren't such witches!

Deal Alert! Hopefully!

People on the CVS thread are reporting that the bag refills (about 200ct I think) of Huggies Wipes are ringing up $2.50 right now. Normally about $8, I think??

I plan to go in the morning and check it out. With the .50c coupons that is a great deal!

Thanks Patsy! I was able to get 6 of these - bought out my local store - using coupons and a CVS card deal too. I think I'll be heading to my other CVS later today... :teeth:

Grrr, waking up every 3 hours at night is getting to me! And E is eating like a little piggy, between nursing and formula, so part of me is thinking growth spurt (he is 4 weeks today), but aren't they usually sleepier during a growth spurt? Ahh, the things I have forgotten after not having a baby for 10 years, plus, my 10 year old was a great sleeper at this age!

Man, I just got back! I'm such a loser when it comes to a good deal. I have got to hide the evidence before my DH gets home!! :scared1: :rotfl:

I hit 3 CVS, bought 24 bags and didn't buy ANY of the stores out!!

I mostly use the Soft Skin ones for Lucas (he's got major skin issues and those seem to bother him the least)... so I ended up with 10 Soft Skin and 8 Natural Care for myself. Plus, I got 6 Natural Care for my friend who is pregnant right now!

I only ended up spending .30c of my own money, too. :rotfl:
I had 2 $5/15 CVS purchase coupons, $15 ECB, a $25 GC (free from transferring a prescription, only had $19 left on it), and 4 .50c Huggies wipes coupons.

If I can get more coupons I am so going back out tomorrow! There are another 2 stores within 10 minutes of my house... might see if they have any of the Soft Skin ones! :yay:

Lily is sleepy AFTER the growth spurt. During we just hang on for dear life. :thumbsup2:scared1:

I have to say that at 4 weeks, I would have been over the moon :cloud9: if Lily was up every 3 hours at night. She had her days/nights mixed up. It was awful.

The carseat thing, Sarah, I wouldn't feel badly that you didn't know after working at TRU cause the guidelines have changed a lot over the past 6 years that I have had kids. In fact, without my friend's firsthand experience, I wouldn't know nearly as much as I do now. They've turned their tragedy into a chance to help others avoid the same horrible fate and have sponsored carseat checks in the area, plus they have donated a bunch of convertible carseats that rear-face to at least 30 lbs. to people in need.

My first we kept rearfacing till 22 months and the second till he was 22 months in my husband's car and 27 months in my car. He actually much preferred being backwards, and so did I cause once I turned him around he was able to see *everything* I did. So every snack I had, he was hungry, every drink, he was thirsty, etc. Big time detriment to me!

Patsy - We installed our infant seat a good month before Scarlett was born for the same reason you mentioned. I was tired of it taking up space in my house (and we had even ditched the box but it was still big) so I stuck it in the car. Of course, with 2 other kids in the same row that really didn't help me much as then my kids had to climb around it a month sooner than necessary, but whatever.

Oh, and the size issue. While I obviously can't predict how big Lucas will be at 2yo, I did find with my kids that once they started walking (and soon thereafter running!) the rapid weight gain slowed dramatically. My son was fairly large as an infant, 19lbs or so by 6 months, but then the crawling/cruising/walking started and at a year he was only 21lbs. He was walking at 10 months and running right behind that so he burned off everything he ate. Plus he ate a bunch less as he didn't want to be contained to eat once he learned to walk. The bonus for me was that all the clothes he wore the summer that he was 10-12 months still fit him the next summer when he was almost 2yo!

December - I really see your dilemma with the daycare. On the one hand, I would be so infuriated each day that I'd want to just pull her out now. But otoh, saving the money for not paying for a summer slot, plus not having to make her transition now and again in the fall, well, those are valid points as well. Ugh, I really feel for you with that decision!

BabyTigger - How are you healing from the infection? Scarlett is a pretty average newborn sleeper as well. My son was great and sleeping nearly 12 hours straight at 6 weeks old, but I don't think Scarlett will follow suit. She does a good 5 hour stretch each night, then 4 hours, but the problem is that the 5 hours is 7pm-midnight and then 12-4am. Well I go to sleep before midnight so I am awakened then, then again at 4am, then it's pretty much once an hour till I finally get out of bed for the day. Oh, and prior to the 5 hour stretch she is super, super fussy for some reason. That is a joy as I am trying to get everyone's dinner ready at that time and have to hold a crying baby in one arm.

Time to go help my son's class check out library books.

Lucas waved buh-bye to 19lbs a few months ago :rotfl:
We go to the pediatrician on the 8th but I would be willing to put money on him being 24-25lbs already. He's been on the move for about a month now, crawling everywhere... just makes him hungrier.

He's totally stopped napping. :sad1:

I have TONS to go back and catch up on, but I just wanted to say hello, and say I should be back for good. After my appendix got taken out I got an abscess/infection and was readmitted to the hospital. I spent most of January in and out of the hospital and was sent home with a PICC line (sort of permanent IV) got that out almost two weeks ago. Dr. says area where appendix was removed is still inflamed, but thankfully no infection (my White Bloos cells are in a normal range). I am thankfully doing lads better!

Hope you are all well! I have to catch up on all the beautiful babies born and post new pictures of Isabel (hopefully this week).

For good?? Oh no! How do you get anything done?

I don't! I feel like I am going insane! I have so much homework to do and I can't get it done because he won't give me more than 2 minutes to do anything! :scared1:

He's been terrible today (I've been thinking for the last few days that another tooth is on the way) and won't STOP CRYING. :headache::headache:
Pack-N-Play? Nope. Screamed. At the top of his lungs.
Bouncer? Nope. He's in there right now SCREAMING.
He played on my bedroom floor a little bit so I got to fold/put away 3 loads of laundry... but he is done playing now.
I'm going to try his swing next and if that doesn't work... well, sorry, kid, but I'm taking a shower. You'll have to deal. :upsidedow
Might make me a bad mom but at least I'll be clean.

He will crawl around the kitchen floor. He's never gotten upset doing that. Just the kitchen, though. :confused3
I made a bunch of stuff yesterday, cleaned out the fridge, swiffered the floor, etc... anything I could do to clean in there to keep him happy.

*eta* Just got out of the shower and he is sleeping in his swing! AHHH!! Victory! I am leaving him down here and going upstairs. Hopefully I won't wake him up if I stay up there...
*eta again..* nevermind, he's awake. Ahhh!

Oh man, I would be in trouble with no nap from my LO. It's the only time I can get something done! My 2yo can help me out and is happy to play and read books while I do some laundry or clean up.

Maybe he's over-tired? What time does he wake up in the morning? I've found that about 3-4 hours after waking up, my LO is ready for a nap. He usually gets up around 7 and is rubbing his eyes after library time or morning errands. Today he woke up at 730 and went back down at 1030. He slept until 1230 and then went back down for his afternoon nap at 3. He just woke up at 430. Now he'll be awake until bedtime around 9. That's pretty much the same everyday, unless we are out all morning then he might nap in the car or stroller where we go.

Also, the nap time really allows me to spend time with my DS2y. We can read books without someone trying to eat them and other crafty things that would be too hard with busy little hands.

Thanks for the wipes tip, BTW. I saw the sale on a mommysavers website but breezed past it since we use Costco wipes. I was able to get 6 packs and I had 4x.50 cent coupons. The woman in front of me got 5 packs right before I got there (that burned me to no end!) and the guy behind me was asking the cashier how I knew about the sale if it wasn't advertised. I said I read the internet!

Patsy - My SIL's kids were like Lucas, huge at birth and huge throughout infancy. My niece was 26lbs at 9 months. Her son is still a big kid now (6 months older than my daughter, but he's considerably taller and heavier and she's at the 90th percentile for height!), but did slow down immensely around 18 months-2 years old when he got super-active. Mine were much younger, thank gosh as I could not have carried my nephew around all day like my SIL did cause he was so big! And with you being pregnant that must be exhausting.

Actually, my daughter has been a peanut weight-wise since about 3 months old. She'll be 6yo on Friday and is just about 40-41lbs, but she's nearly 48" so pretty tall. My son was a monster baby till about 5 months or so, then nearly stopped gaining weight. In his case though, he had surgery at 7 months, plus learned to crawl then and was walking 3 months later. Once he started walking we were lucky to get him to eat anything at meals as he'd be climbing out of the high chair within minutes. He had no patience for sitting at the table and just wanted to be moving through the house, destroying everything in sight. ;)

For the fussiness, does Lucas like the bath? When my daughter went through one of those phases she would usually calm down for a bit if I threw her in the bathtub with some toys. Didn't last too long, but I could at least bring some laundry into the bathroom and fold it while she was playing in the tub.

Adi - Wow, that seems like a lot to have gone through over the past month. Hopefully you're recovering well now. How's your little girl doing?

Maybe it's seperation anxiety? I know, lately Lily has days where she wants me to hold her all the time. I'd go insane if it wasn't for my Beco.
