The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

Thanks Ladies! They make me very tired, but they are very worth it. And yes, they are all very much in love with their baby sister. Even the five year-old who I thought might have issues after being the baby herself for much longer than any of her siblings.

My 9 yr old is still having some jealousy issues. If someone mentions how cute the baby is, I have to be quick to compliment her, too, or it just breaks her heart!

How long did you nurse (when your milk came in) in the beginning?

Is 15 minutes all together too short??

Jake is 2wks old (there are two Jakes so i just want to always clarify who we are talking about). He has his nights and days together but hasnt been sleeping well at all, esp. at night. He is up most of the day and night too. He just grunts a lot and makes noises like he is holding his breath and grunting. We burp him constantly even after we get a good burp... and we have been givin him little tummies thinking it might be gas-- but still grunting happens and no sleep. He wants to lay on his belly on my belly but this isnt condusive for me sleeping- lol. Any thoughts? He also likes you to pat his back like you are burping him when he is layin on my stomach.

That's how Lily and I sleep every night. :( Tho she seems to be growing out of it.

As for feeding. I would say at his age 15 min total is too short, but you can let him dictate what he needs. Bf'd babies need a lot less burping. I find that about 30 minutes after she has been fed, Lily will let out a whooper without much proding, but its hard to get anything out before that.

He sounds a lot like Lily--if I didn't hold her at night, she would barely sleep at all. I'm praying it changes once she can soothe herself. Everything you describe sounds totally normal to me.

I was wondering if ive been feeding him too much as well (might be hurting his belly)-- the timing is right (not too often) but i would keep him awake for 15min on each side. He could go to sleep after the first side at 15 min. (well try to sleep anyway). Can overfeeding make a baby have an upset stomach?

Also-- my ****s arent getting really hard in between feedings like they were before. Is this because im giving him both sides for 15min each? i kind of like them getting hard it lets me know more about how well he is eating.

Thanks girls!!
It's nearly impossible for a bf'd baby to eat too much, let alone too much to consistantly make him feel bad.

Your ****s are probably getting used to how much he needs.

Swallowing is the best indicator.

And for my next question - when does everyone suggest starting to pump? And should I pump the same amount of time that Alex normally nurses? Should I pump after feeding and do the opposite side or the same side or both? (OK that was more than one question...sorry!)

Welcome Drew!!!

I started pumping the first week, because I was so engorged. I usually pump once a day and try to give her a bottle when I'm pumping (we started a bottle a day at 3 weeks). The best time to pump is in the morning. If you can't do it in place of a feeding, pump about 45 minutes to an hour after a feeding. That way you have time to produce more milk and enough before the next feeding.

I always do both sides, but I have a hands free bustier that makes it super easy.

So the bustier is worth the $$? I've been thinking about getting one, but wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much. If it really works, I may have to do it.

Thanks for the info Sarah! I thought I was told not to pump right away - I think the nurse at the hospital told me three weeks, but the pediatrician said two weeks...My girlfriend (with her 2 month old) and I are meeting at Olive Garden in 2 weeks and it'd be nice to have a bottle available for Alex if needed.

I'm getting ready to sterilize the pump parts - it says to boil for 10 minutes. Am I also boiling the little white membranes too? Those don't fall apart after being boiled for 10 minutes??

Alex and DH are currently watching football on TV (well, DH is...Alex is watching DH.) :teeth: Even though the Bears aren't winning it looks like DH and Alex are having fun together. He's finally getting more comfortable with him - I think once Alex gets some neck control things will go even smoother.

I do find that if we go out to dinner, I try to ask for a booth, so I have some privacy if DD needs to nurse (which she normally does.) I also wear a tank top under a cardigan, so I can lift the tank from the bottom but the cardigan still gives me coverage.

DD is almost 4 months and we haven't tried a bottle yet. I pumped one time but DH never gave it and the milk went bad.

I don't know about boiling the parts. I sterilize using the Medela microwave bags. They are awesome! I have to use them twice a day at work, and don't know what I'd do without them.

Ohmygoodness!!!

Tom hates to travel, it's been one of our biggest "issues"....

I started reading about the DCL cruises to Alaska and called him and he's EXCITED! He actually wants to go!

He told me to get all my stuff together and let him know tonight and we'll make a decision to put some money down on a room. Wohooo!

Definitely! I LOVE it. I got the one that just wraps around--not the halter. I found mine on ebay for $10!

I think the normal recommendation is 3 weeks, so that your supply is established, but I think 2 weeks is fine. It didn't hurt me at all.

I also love the sterilization bags and yes I put the membranes in there too.

We're big football fans here too:

Sooo jealous!! Congrats!

What a cute picture! :)

Thanks!!

So i don't think Lily will be sleeping on my chest much anymore. Last night she discovered that she can now keep her head up when she tummy to tummy with me. It's all she wanted to do. She slept next to me in bed--still in my arms though--A little progress I think.

That's the same thing my little guy does. He loves being on his tummy on his playmat. That's where he turned over last week. He was stunned once he flipped over and laughed out loud. My other son yelled, "wow! see that?". I'm glad Lily has decided to try another place to sleep. I think we'll be moving the baby to his crib next month. He's getting too long for the bassinet. :(

Love the costume ideas so far. I found one for my oldest that is a lion with a big fluffy mane. I think we'll just have them match this year before anyone can object openly about it next Halloween.

I'm lucky at the moment. Both boys are sleeping for their afternoon naps. ;) Ah, the peace and quiet.

I went to 2 kids clothes resales this weekend and am all set for them for fall and winter. A few of the 6/9 shirts are too small, but most of them were only $1-2. Between the two of them I got 40 shirts, 2 coats, 2 snowsuits, 1 pair boots, 10 pants, 2 overalls, 10 holiday/my first bibs, 2 pairs of shoes (never even worn!), 12 pairs Trumpette socks, 4 sweaters, and a small assortment of puzzles, blocks, and links. $125! The pants are all Gymbo and Children's Place and the shirts are mostly from CP as well. The baby's clothes are mostly Carters and Gap. :woohoo:

I was greeted by a big smile when he woke up from his nap. (He's still in his jammies because it's COLD in here today and I refuse to turn on the heat!)

The pics are too cute!

I've been home with Katie and ds12 today. Neither were feeling good this morning, and ds12 got a nosebleed, so we thought we'd better keep them in.

I spent the last 45 min on the phone with Disney. I let dh out of our trip. He just really didn't want to go. He said he still wants to do Kennedy, but over a long weekend. I said that was great, he'd be happier and not make us miserable. Then the 4/3 deal came out! So I just booked POR for March 13-20!:yay: I've never done anything but AllStar Sports, and I'm so excited to try a moderate. It was only $150 cheaper to do Pop, and if I get my sister to come with me, there will be room for 5 (her and her son) in the POR trundle room!!!!

I'm going to ***try*** to keep this a secret until Christmas, and make this the kids big present this year.:upsidedow

I love kids' clothes resales. Because I am a "new" mom (baby under 6 mos. old), I got to go to a presale of one this weekend. It was actually pretty small and didn't have a ton of good deals, but I thought it was really nice that they let pregnant women and new mothers shop a day early. The bigger ones here in the metro area don't do that.

I'm thinking of calling myself for the 4/3 deal. But seriously, how bad are the crowds in March? I've heard horror stories and always tried to go off season. But it's been forever since we've gone (check my signature :sad1:) and now that my kids are older, it's harder to take them out of school. So tell me the truth, Ladies. How bad is it? (Our spring break is the third week in March.) DH has an elderly aunt in Florida who refuses to fly anymore, but really wants to see Alexis so she would be thrilled too.

Oh, everyone baby pictures are soooo cute!!!

I know there was a thread a while back about hair falling out. WHEN DOES IT STOP? Mine has been falling our like crazy. It is making me crazy:scared1:

Hope everyone is having a great week.

I really love Disney in March. Generally the weather is nice, not too hot & not yet humid. Usually the "bad" weeks are the weeks right before & after Easter -- that's when many schools in the northeast have their spring breaks. I've never found the crowds too bad, but we are a start early & take an afternoon break kind of family, so as it's getting busiest is when we are heading back to the resort to rest or swim.

I'm sad.... looks like there's no 2010 trip in the cards for us..... probably 2011. Unless I can scheme a long weekend mom & son trip for me & my oldest some time..........

My hair loss has slowed down, but not stopped. I feel like I'm going bald.

I'm looking forward to March. I've only been in July (hot) and November (Thanksgiving week). Both times were packed, but we are like DannysMom, at the parks for ropedrop. From what I've read, March isn't bad when Easter is in April. Since I teach, offseason won't ever work for us. I'll be alone with all 3 kids, but I think with the pleasant weather we'll be ok.
