The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

I guess it would be better if he'd sit with me, but he won't. I can't stand and hold him... it wears me out. He's about 24lbs now and just lifting him up makes me gasp for air sometimes!! :rotfl:
So I've tried cuddling in my bed- no go, he wants to explore! He'll get to the edge of the bed, peek his head over and start to pull himself off.. then gets mad when I stop him and pull him back on the bed.
Tried to sit together downstairs on the couch/recliner. Nope. He wiggled if I held him. I pulled the ottoman over to the couch to create a surface area for him to move around on- got PISSED as heck that I wouldn't let him go off the edge (no idea why he has such an obsession with going overboard)!
Tried, as is our usual, to sit with him on my lap at the computer. Nope. He wants the mouse. Or they keyboard. Or the pin. Or to be facing the other way. Or to open the desk drawer and play with the stuff inside (tape, pens, etc.). Gets really mad when I move to where it is out of reach.
I even dumped all his toys (I had gotten a ton of those soft TY Beanie Baby happy meal toys from McDonalds when they had them and they're in a box in his room.. he loves to play with them!) on his floor and tried to watch a movie in there with him. No way, Jose! He wanted to play with the shampoo bottles on the changing table shelf.
He seriously had two of the mini(trial, I guess) sized bottles of shampoo- one in each hand, and one of the happy meal toy teddy bears in his mouth and was army crawling around his room. It's so frustrating. That was cute, though...

Oh, and it totally doesn't help that we go out and people are like "Oh, your kid is such an angel!" Psh! In public! Which I am grateful for... because I like getting out.
We went to Cracker Barrel tonight (you know, lots of older couples around to 'oohhh' and 'awwww' over him).. I swear to you that SIX people stopped to tell us how wonderful he is and how they waved and caught his eye and he just smiled at them. He's an angel out there. Put him back home? Tear city. I just don't get it.

We also took him out of his SafeSeat and started using the Nautilus... he HATES it! He is so perplexed when we try to put him in, he just doesn't understand. It sorta freaks him out that he can see out the front window, too. He screamed the other night when it was raining.

The people who are saying it is there aren't even directly involved, so honestly, I'm not sure how that is being helpful beyond adding to the drama and stepping on even more people's toes.

Just my .02c....

I will leave as well. No reason to hang around to be attacked or mistreated as a new comer.

I wish you all the best with your children!

Thank you all for going through my pregnancy with me. I wish you and your LOs well. Keep your love of WDW going with those babies.

Peace, I am out of here.

Patsy - My first was like Lucas at that age. She was so bad that my husband couldn't hold her at all or she'd scream. Just me. It was mind-numbing for awhile cause sometimes you just need to be able to get stuff done or even just use the bathroom, but it passed. I don't remember exactly when, but ultimately things got better.

But the wanting to explore, touch things he shouldn't, etc., that does not go away nor get better. Just worse as he gets older, taller, can reach and see more, etc. Good luck with that! My son was the same way and then got into the climbing and such and hasn't stopped moving since.

Regarding your carseat, the Nautilus, is that the Graco equivalent to the Britax Frontier? If so, we have that (the Frontier) and I think it's for kids 2yo+ and can only be used forward facing so that might be the problem. Or I could be wrong and it's another seat I am thinking of. Either way, if he can see out of the front seat, assuming he is rearfacing, then the seat is likely too reclined for his comfort level. Older babies can sit very upright in a rearfacing position, more so than they were in the infant carrier, and they are typically much happier that way.

Viviensmama - Before I conceived this baby I did WW for I think 8 months cause I was not willing to conceive a 3rd kid before I lost all the weight from the 2nd kid (and 1st...). It was challenging in the beginning, but I got used to the point system (though I believe it's all a little different now) and found I was able to choose foods that kept me filled more than what I was initially eating and it made a huge difference. In 6 months I lost about 20 lbs, which is what I was going for, with a couple of vacations thrown in there (meaning I did not remotely stick to the points!). Oh, and I did not do meetings either, just online.

And I gained a lot with this pregnancy, like my first, so I still have a little of 20 lbs to go now, so I will likely rejoin. I'm giving it till I am 6 weeks PP and then I'll see where I am at before I decide though. I know what to do now, but actually logging the points made me literally see what I was consuming each day and held me more accountable than I am without it.

I am reading to my son's class in an hour so I should get myself ready to leave, as that now takes much longer with a baby. I am hoping she will sleep through it since she has to come. My husband went in yesterday and did a presentation on Mardi Gras in both kids' classes and at the last minute we joined him and she was not too pleased with that as she had not been fed too recently. Oh, but she is smiling as of yesterday, so that does make up for the moments of grouchiness. A little sad for me though, as she's the earliest smiler out of all 3 and being the last kid I wouldn't mind her staying a newborn just a little bit longer.

I hope everyone doesn't leave too. It's nice hearing all the different ways we raise our children. (So if you're still lurking, say hi once and awhile!) It's hard to show emotion in something that's typed sometimes.

And yes, Alex is sleeping through the night! Well...still up twice a night but that's totally better than 5 times a night every two hours! He's really digging the cereal still - we are going out for dinner tonight at a fish fry and he'll even get his own "food" with us during dinner so that should be fun... :teeth:
He's also rolling from belly to back constantly!! Now to work on back to belly... my baby is growing too fast! :sad1:

Again, everyone is entitled to their opinion and they have the right to state it freely on this thread. I'm not sure why people feel the need to leave- there are always going to be disagreements between friends (even the real-life kind! ;)) and I'm not sure why this would be any different.

Anywho, Justine-- the Nautilus should be all he needs from now on. It's got the 5pt harness for 20-65lbs, then it goes to the booster w/back, then backless booster. It's the next 3 "steps" or whatever they're called.

Lucas is in the kitchen. Somewhat content to play with the dog's food bowl. Whatever makes him happy. He's been driving me coocoo! I have homework to do before noon so I'm crossing my fingers that he stays distracted and happy!

I did Weight Watchers for 3 months back in 2003. I found the program so easy to follow, and I did really well on the program (I think I was at 35 pounds in 3 months). Unfortunately, I had to quit after 3 months, because I was diagnosed with lymphoma.

Fortunate for me this time, I am actually 25 pounds less today than I was the day I found out I was pregnant! I lost 10 pounds at the beginning of my pregnancy, and only gained 5 back total during the pregnancy (don't worry, E had tons of fat to still feast on!!). I haven't weighed this low in a few years, and it feels great!

So, we are supplementing formula, because BFing is just not going the best. When I do nurse, E wants to eat every 2 hours, like clockwork. And sometimes, after he nurses, he still is hungry. So I nurse usually two times, then bottle, then nurse again. It is frustrating, to say the least. Also, E has worn out a chunk on me on one side, so it hurts like crazy when he latches on that side!

Patsy Luscas sounds just like Lilliana. Her favoiate things my laptop, the phone, remote and the dog's water and food dish. Yesterday she knocked it over and it spilled all over her. DH said she wasn't very happy after that. :rotfl::rotfl:

I hope everyone still sticks around too. I am not always active on the boards but always here.

Ugh, YES!!! Lucas has been soaked by the dog and cat's water so many times that I put it away whenever he crawls in there.

He's killing me.. he just crawled back in here with an onion in his hands. :confused3

I know it has a 5pt and can be used from 20lbs, but can you use it rear-facing? The Britax version, the Frontier, is forward facing only and I believe it says age 2. So with that you'd still need another carseat for Lucas till he is at least a year. I know he's over 20lbs, but the rearfacing-forward facing conversion is way more about age than just weight. At his age they simply don't have the muscle development to prevent injury in the event of a crash if he's forward facing. In fact the AAP has changed is recommendation from 20lbs AND 1 year to "the rear-facing limits of the carseat". So if he's outgrown the rear-facing limits on the carrier then you need a convertible seat that has a higher RF limit (they are usually around 35lbs.).

I seriously don't want to start another feud, but our friends lost their child in a car accident due to this very reason and have become local carseat advocates as a result so I have learned a lot. I know the Nautilus isn't cheap, but if it can't be installed rearfacing then you should buy a convertible seat that you can use in the interim.

By chance do any of you ladies do Weight Watchers? I just started and it is so hard! I guess I had no clue how much I was eating all day. I am doing it online, not going to meetings (too hard to find a sitter for Viv). I feel like I'm hungry all. the. time. When does this go away??? I have about 25 pounds of baby weight to lose.

As far as beans, we love to make chili, ham and bean soup, and nachos!!

Ok, I feel like I haven't been on in ages. Facebook has taken over my life :)

I do weight watchers. I just really started watcing my points again this week. You will adjust to it. I feel it's much easier as you can eat what you want, just make sure that you track your points! That's the big thing for me. I just got an iphone and uploaded the app, so that will make it easier for the 4 days I work. I am doing it online this time as well, with 3 boys and hubby traveling for work, working 4 10 hour days..ya no way for me to get to meetings. If you're hungry look for low point or no point foods. I'm not a huge carrot fan, but I love carrots dipped in cream cheese. Weight watchers has their own CC and I get it in tubs at BJ's. They are the little indivudual serving ones. they are 1 point, 10 carrots are zero points. It's a great snack. I usually have one or 2 a days. It takes care of veggies, too. Are you drinking all your h20?? make sure you're drinking water. It helps with hunger. I drink water at work and crystal light at home.

Feel free to pm me or ask any questions. I need to realize this time it is a lifestyle change. In the past I had gained weight back. But my youngest is 10 months and the weight I lost last summer has stayed off. I just stopped tracking points, but I maintained where I was, which is huge. Now to get this additional 40lbs off. I'm down about 35 at this point, haven't checked the scale this week, I need to get it a new battery.

Anyways, I'm sure those of you on FB saw, but for the others that I miss cuz I don't come on here anymore...CJ was diagnostic with a rare skin disease, urticaria pigmentosa. We noticed spots back in sept/oct and we (and pedi) thought they were bug bites. after a few weeks when he had more and they weren't going away, they had us make appt w/dermatologist. So we went to umass yesterday. We need to be really cautious of high allergy things, foods, bee stings, as he will more than likely have a severe reaction. We can't rub his skin, friction cause the histamines to release and cause hives where he has spots. Have to watch h20 temp, so in the summer he can't go in cold pools, thankfully my parents is heated. He can't have a ton of meds, many are used in sedation and we have been talking tubes for his frequent ear infections. Some more common ones, NSAIDs, yup no ibuprofen, which is what we use for his frequent ear infections and teeting. no codeine, morphine and many other pain relivers and they release the histamines. He has the spots because he has so many histamines already released in his cells, that's what causes the spots, mast cells.

I have a call out ot the pedi..things you think of after you leave the dr's office. I am asking him for a referral to an allergist, as I would rather have him tested to know yes he is allergic to things vs just waiting. I'm not sure if he's too young of if everything will come up positive because of the disease, if they don't do it, I'm going to ask for an epipen.

It's kinda scary, right now not too worried, but once spring comes, I'll be freaking over bees ! She said they can have a severe reaction to common allergens, specifically bees, shellfish, etc.

on a plus note, the spots (or as I need to start calling them freckles, so he doesn't get selfconscious) will eventually go away in his teen years, just in time for pimples! the poor kid. I asked if they thought it had anything to do w/his premature birth and said no, it's congenitial. Thankfully they don't seem to bug him. But when they get rubbed they actually puff up to hives, then I can give him so OTC claritin or zyrtec.

poor little bugger.:guilty:

I hate to hear that!

DH has/had uriticaria. At our old house he was pulling up carpet and laying laminant and a little while later he was covered in bumps that itched him. He went to the dr and they said it was uriticaria, and just like you said- he has to take zyrtec. I think it was something in the carpet (no telling what kind of chemicals had been put on it by the previous owner or really what it might have been). He had to take anti-hystemines (sp?) to help with it. It went away and has yet to come back.

I hope whatever he is allergic to or whatever has triggered it (maybe its the ear infection stuff if it just came up since hes had one) - will go away and he will stop reacting. We never did figure out what it was DH was reacting to. Poor guy-- i can only imagine what its like for him bc DH said it was itchy. But then again, grown men can tend to be bigger babies about things than babies themselves - lol!!

Stacy, I saw it on Facebook but I wanted to offer a

I didn't see spots in any of his pictures, so he doesn't look spotted to me!!! Just adorable. I see both your older boys in him, it's like he's a perfect mix!!

Way way way OT..... I just got a call from my little bro (30 year old & 6 ft tall little bro, but little bro nonetheless....) and he got laid off!! Poor guy.

First his fiancee dumped him just before the holidays & now this...... ugh.

Maggie, we are still just doing rice cereal We are starting on oatmeal cereal on Monday with the sitter in the AM.

Sarah and Valerie - it's so sad to see this happening!

Maggie, look for a 'Stacy' that is my friend.

I'm only friends with 2 and the other is a Stacey.

*eta* I lied Maggie! lol. Tiggetstac Stacy has a picture of CJ up... the other Stacy that is my friend has a picture of herself (she's a skinny little blonde chick lol)

Danny'smom(I'm terrible with our real names!!), I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. It seemed like things were getting better but still so much terrible news. :(

If you look at the fish bowl pictures on his 9 month session, you can see them on his body. Our photographer is great, she took them out of all the pictures. She hadn't got that far yet on my proofs, but it will be out for my pictures.

This isn't a reaction to anything in the environment, just he has way too many histamines in his body on a regular basis and the mast cells going crazy. I'm just worried about what allergens are going to do to him!

Sorry to hear this. It's a tough time out there right now. My parents own an autobody and my mother just had to cut herself. They have been in business since I was an infant and have a great reputation, always getting the "best of the best award" for our area, but we haven't had much of a winter and you hate to say it...but it's reality, accidents are their business. My younger brother works there too, there is one person who would probably be gone before him, but the other 2, no way.

Patsy, if we look at pictures of ty as a baby, you would think it was caleb! It's crazy, but when ty was a baby, we said he was a mix of steve and I. Brady is all me!!

if anyone uses pampers, target is having their sale on the big boxes. I got 2 boxes of 156 baby dry for $30 each. that worked out cheaper than bj's does. huggies pullups were in the section., but not a great deal.

Just there yesterday, but didn't see these! Darn it! That is what we have to use at night or Allie pees through everything!!
