The NEW WL FAQ (Part 5) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY! Part 2

We will be at WL Dec. 1-5 along with my in-laws. We have a courtyard view bunk bed room for us and are hoping another will come open as my in-laws are now in a 2 queens room. My kids are thrilled about the bunk beds, but I'm suddenly paranoid about someone falling out of the top bunk! How high are the railings? I'm hoping I'm just being overly paranoid, but if anyone has any close-ups of the top bunk, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks!

The bunks railings are definitely high enough, my girls have been sleeping in them since they were 5 and 7...but I believe the bunks are not recommended for children 5 and under. There's a sign on the bed that says so.

I have pix on my home computer - I'll post tonight.

BUZZ KILL ALERT: I wasn't paranoid about them falling off, as much as I was concerned about the air conditioner vent and the ceiling fan......that had me FREAKED OUT. I can not sleep without a ceiling fan (no matter what the weather) and I had to turn it off because all I could picture was them getting up while asleep and hitting the fan.

The air blows RIGHT ON that top bunk - so I had the top bunk sleeper in long sleeves and a bunch of blankets. There was no way in the world I was going to shut off the air in July-Aug.

The kids actually liked the lower bunk better because it was "fort like" - there was a lamp on the wall and very cozy in there.

We will not be doing bunks again.

Ack! Are all of the bunkbed rooms that way? I guess I will just be prepared for that then. I was planning on rotating the two, but DD may be the one on top since she is my warm blooded one.

Thanks! The kids have already decided that DD3 will be on the bottom and DS7 will be on the top bunk, but I had heard that the bottom was really neat, and was worried about them arguing over it. That sign will come in very handy...if it's "Mickey's Rule" there will be no complaining. Mommy and Daddy's rules.....

Thanks for that...I'll be sure to bring a variety of PJ's. We will probably have the heat on since it will be Dec., but we could have the opposite problem and it's hot up there. DH is like you with the ceiling fan...If it's there, it's on whether it's 20 below or 110.

Thanks for being so understanding about my "BUZZ KILL". I wasn't sure how that was going to come across. :goodvibes

He everyone, I am new to these boards, but we are staying at the WL from 2/12-2/18 and I have a couple of questions...

1. We have reserved 2 rooms, and requested connecting rooms as our kids will be just 4 and 17 months. I have heard that Disney guarantees connecting rooms when the kids in the party are this little. Has that been your experience?

2. We have reserved standard rooms, and requested that they be as far as humanly possible away from the lobby/WCC (both my kids are light sleepers, and I can only imagine how cranky everyone will be if they are woken frequently). Where in the resort are the standard rooms? Where are we likely to be? Any flaws in this plan?

3. My husband and I are traveling separately (work schedules), so I will go down with the girls and check in earlier in the day than he will arrive. Will I be permitted to check into and use both rooms on the reservation (so I can put the baby to bed) before he arrives?

Thanks SO much for your thoughts!

No, I wasn't upset at all...I'd much rather be prepared going into it than find out for myself the hard way when I get there. I think we may keep my in-laws room as a regular 2 queens just in case...we can swirch rooms if we need to...or better yet, maybe the kids will just sleep in Grandmom & Grandpops room.:cloud9: Ok....shake me out of my fantasy world!:lmao:

Thanks for your honest opinion on the Bunkbeds!

I'm not sure on the connecting rooms thing, as this is the first trip we have requested it, too. I had heard that as long as there are 2 adults they are not guaranteed as one adult could be in each room if necessary. I'm not sure though...with an infant things could be different.

As for the Standard rooms....I would try and make your first request a higher floor, as there are a few standard rooms over a loading dock...to me, beeping trucks at 4am would be worse than noise from WCC or the lobby. Most people say you can't hear that with your door closed anyway.

As for checking in, are both rooms in your name and on being paid for with your credit card? If so, I think you are ok....he may need to go down to the front desk and get his KTTW when he gets there, but I don't see why you couldn't have your key programmed to one room and dd4 to the other. Again, I'm not 100% on this, cause we've never tried it before this trip, either.

ETA: I'm writing this assuming it's just the 4 of you in the 2 rooms...If there are more people, and he's the only one coming late it should be even less of an issue, as he is the only member of the group not arriving together

Just a thought...it might be less expensive to get one deluxe room instead of 2 standard rooms. Not trying to intrude just wanted to mention it in case you did not know that they have deluxe rooms that I think sleep 6. I'm sure there is someone on here that can give you better info on that.

Yes, you could look into the deluxe and also the WL Villas. That way you would have a kitchen too.

Hi all!
:)

Less than 30 days to our 9/14-9/19 trip!

This will be DH's and my fourth time to stay at WL in four trips, including our honeymoon in 2000. This time, however, we are taking my FIL and my best friend. We are getting two rooms, one for DH and FIL and one for me and my friend, since it would be inappropriate for my FIL and friend to have to stay in the same room.

I knew about the WL Villas, and a CM told me that would not be a better deal for us. Does the deluxe room have separate sleeping areas so it would work for us, and would it be a better deal? I got the annual passholder rate of $200 a night per room, so I doubt it, but just making sure.

Thanks for your help!

I was told there are no connecting "standard rooms" and we were forced to book "woods view" to request connecting.

I think the Deluxe rooms have 2 queens in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room, so there are 2 seperate sleeping areas...it just depends on how you feel about sleeping on a sofa bed. Since the Deluxes are CL, it may be tougher to get the AP disc. Also, with 2 seperate rooms, you will also have 2 bathrooms, vs 1 with the Deluxe.

Wichever way you decide to go, Have fun!!!

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

We looked into getting the deluxe rooms, and at the villas, but the 2 rooms actually worked out to cost less-- maybe because we were ok with standard rooms? I appreciate the tip on requesting a higher floor-- I will make sure to do that. I booked the rooms through AAA, and they assured me that we could get connecting standard rooms. Maybe I'll call the WL directly to confirm that.

On the check in issue-- I believe both rooms are in my name. Since it is only the 4 of us on the reservation, and he is the only one arriving separtely, I sure hope that we can get access to that room so I can put the baby to bed.

One last question-- the pools at the WL are heated, right? We are in Delaware, so February in Florida is likely to feel like a heat wave, and I know my 4 year old would love the chance to swim.

Thanks again!

Thanks! I think we will stick with the two rooms. I can't imagine that a concierge level woud be cheap enough to make it worth losing the bathrooms and queen bed for each of us. Now if I could just have a wave of the wand and get all the ADR's I desire...

I got a really cool mailer today waiting for me when I came home, from "jean" of the WL! I thought it was really nice of the WL (and disney) to do this to get you excited! (as if i wasn't already) has anyone ever seen this? It's the first time I have!

Front of Mailer:

and then you opened the flaps and this was the inside:

insidemailer.jpg

It reads:

Dear ---- Party,

Welcome to Disney's Wilderness Lodge. It's great to have you staying with us. We can't wait to introduce you to our majestic resort. But before you start packing, I wanted to take this time to send a list of tips we've put together just for you. I hope it helps make your Walt Disney World vacation even more special.

See you soon,

Jean Gallagher - General Manager
Disney's Wilderness Lodge

P.S. For a whoop and hollerin' good time, don't miss the Whispering Canyon Cafe. It's the perfect place to "honor" anyone celebrating a special event.

The inside displayed a treasure map of tips!

I don't know, but it made me crazy excited!! I also posted this in my TR

I got 2 of these. Once when we stayed at the CBR and one when we stayed at CSR. Anything we get from Disney gets you excited about your upcoming trip, especially if it's personalized. They are really nice and are personalized. I saved them and put them in my scrapbooks. Enjoy. :cloud9:

That's Sooo cool! I've never gotten anything like that before! Are you staying CL level? Did you book directly through Disney or with another TA?

I would love to get one of those. The kids would love the treasure map!:thumbsup2

Yes, the pools are heated. We are in DE, too, and we went in late November last year. It was a tad chilly at night, which is when our DS5 LOVES to swim, but we did it anyway! We are in Newark, De...where are you? DE is so small, I love to find other Delawarians on this board!
