I've just booked my first stay at the Dolphin! I'm going to be there 9/19-9/23. It was a very last minute trip, so I'm very excited. I got a great AAA rate of $135.20/night, so I just had to grab it. Thanks for all your hard work on the FAQs on the first page, it answered a lot my questions!

Any word yet on when the refurb will happen? Thinking of booking for a week in mid-April, but won't if the pool is down.

How's the hair dryer quality? I really need one but it's just a wknd trip so i'd like to pack light. My hair is not super thick or long either btw. TIA!

The dryers are great. I have to blow dry my hair and need a good dryer. It has been nice to not pack my dryer.

It CAN'T be in mid April - that's when we are planning to be there! :teeth:

Seriously, pure spectulation on my part, but it would make sense to do it in January, when occupancy is a tad lower, and the temperatures can often be too cool to use the pool anyway. April is the kick off to high season, with better weather and more people.

Cheers,

DH and I had been wishy-washy about whether to stay at BWI or the Dolphin from Oct. 23-28 (we had reservations for both). BWI just ended up being too expensive, and the Gartner Symposium basically meant no discounts for the first two nights of our trip because everything is booked up. Even the discounts that we could've gotten weren't great. So, today I cancelled our BWI ressie. We're officially staying at the Dolphin! I got a great government rate quite a few months ago (I work for local govt.). We have a room with a king-size bed. Still have to book our airport transportation...thinking of going with Tiffany Towncar since I've seen it recommended here. I know the convention is basically headquartered at the Dolphin, so I hope it's not too busy. Either way, I'm super-psyched about our trip. F&W 2012! :cool1:

I'm in the same predicament as u. I have a BWI ressie as well as a Dolphin ressie. Still trying to get a discount for BWI but I'm going during Jersey week and discounts seem hard to come by. I will cancel our BWI ressie soon I guess...

I could've waited until next week to see if there are any convention cancellations (the deadline for them is Sept. 18th), and maybe a discount would've opened up, but the max discount would be 25%, and really that's still not enough to make it worth it. We were doing BWI CL, though...that's expensive to begin with, and we knew it. I guess in the end we just decided we'd rather spend the money on something else.

How far ahead do they make the room assignments at the Dolphin. Wanted to call and verify my "request" since they don't show-up on the ressie. Thanks!

Speaking of requests, if we made reservations for a standard room (teacher rate), what sort of request should we make? What are better "standard" rooms?

We are Starwood Preferred Plus members, so I'm hoping that will help as well, but we have 2 rooms to keep together, which probably makes it more complicated.

Thanks!

At the risk of getting my head ripped off I must ask about the pool. Is there anyone there who can tell me how it looks now?

We are trying to change our reserv to the Swan for Oct 22 - 29 or possibly a split stay Oct 25 - 29 if nothing opens up.

Sorry to stir the muck :rotfl2:

Anyway this thread needed to be bumped! Don't think I've ever seen it this quiet.

I have read reports in other forums it is 'clear & pristine'. Can't help but wonder how bad the original problem really was. :stir:

Hopefully, it's 100% now. I too would be interested in a first hand report, since we arrive in another 3 weeks or so for our fifth visit. Based on our own experiences, we have nothing but good things to say this property.

Cheers,

We are here right now. I wouldn't call it pristine. One thing that I noticed yesterday, is there were areas at the bottom of the pool with alot of sand. I inspect pools, so my concern is that the sand filters are not operating properly. It's strange that they are not vacuuming the areas up. The water looks "ok" but it is not crystal clear. PS-Without laboratory tests to check for bacteria, it's impossible to know if there is bacteria in the pool. Florida law, only requires pools to test for bacteria once a month, which personally I think is ridiculous. In NJ, public pools are tested every week.

thanks for the info bandb. Not sure it will matter for us since I can't find any avail for Oct 22 - 25 at the Swan. I was hoping something would shake loose after Gartner Symp pre regist and final payment dates passed. Still trying to convince DH to do a split stay.

I will keep checking - anyone have odds on my chances??

We've pretty much decided to skip the pool during our October trip and make our "off" day at DTD instead. Better not to risk anything.
