Add our family to the ranks of those who drive to DHS and DAK.

We do it in a rental car though. I wish we drove to WDW. In about 50 trips, we've driven once as a family and I did it once solo. I think it's fun. Happy road trips all of you driving soon!

Does anyone have a pic of the drink station in Capt Cooks? I have been reading through this thread over the past week and know I saw it somewhere... just can't remember where :confused3

I am trying to decide if the refillable mugs are worth the money. For myself it is a no brainer, as I am a big soda drinker. However, my mother and sister are not big soda drinkers and I wanted to make sure there was something else for them to drink. I have heard talks of other resorts having slushies, juice, milk on their machines... What's on the Poly's?

Thanks for any help! :thumbsup2

...however shouldn't we also get the best bus service possible and not having such long waits?
Best because the cost of the room is more? No.
Deluxe resorts should have EXCELLENT bus service, we certainly pay enough!!
ALL of Disney's guests should get excellent service.
No one who pays to stay at any resort at Disney deserves this type of service.
I agree with this statement. Having waited-in the farthest line-one night 90 minutes to get back to POP, I think Disney needs to monitor and adjust the buses to avoid this extraordinary long waits.
In March, at 59, he was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. He wasn't supposed to do this well for this long at all, but with lots of wonderful medical care and a firm desire to hang in, he is still fairly comfortable but tiring quickly.
No advice, Luvamouse. Just some memories. I lost my Dad when he was 59 from esophageal cancer. He was diagnosed in '87 (I know because I had just given birth to my 3rd child when I was [finally] told.) After a 6 month prognosis, he died almost 3 years later in '90. Sending a hug for your family! :grouphug:

I think time of year counts, regarding the buses. Had absolutely no problems with buses to AK, DHS or DTD in September. I can be a wee bit impatient and I don't think we waited more than 10-15 minutes. Always had a seat too:confused3

My aunt and uncle are headed down Friday with their 2 youngest kids (DS 26 and DD 32 ;) ) for what, sadly, will most certainly be my DU's last WDW trip.

How wonderful that they are able to have such a memorable final trip to WDW together, since it was such a big a part of their family's lives. I can say with direct knowledge that your cousins will never forget this trip as long as they live.

My mother died this past October at the age of 67 (I'm the baby of four and am 32), which is part of the reason my husband urged me to plan this last-minute vacation for the five of us in early February. We gave up our annual vacation last summer so we could all drive down from DC to Florida and spend three weeks with my mother at my sister's house in the Tampa area. I'm so, so glad we did that, and your cousins/aunt will be so glad they went down one more time.

Blessings to your family.

Best because the cost of the room is more? No.ALL of Disney's guests should get excellent service.

Well I agree that everyone should get excellent service, but deluxe resorts should include deluxe service in my mind. If they provide that to ALL resorts, great.

Doesn't really matter to me, because we'd likely drive to the non-monorail places no matter how great the buses are.

That is so young! My mom is that age...

First, thanks to those who posted about my family's situation, Disney is such a beloved place that I realize my aunt and uncle are not the only ones who choose to go against the health odds. They are very happy to be going once more. At my suggestion, my aunt called WDW last night and was told that there was no more availability for the Luau for the week. They also said that they only cancel if there is "thunder and lightening". So... the plan is to bring plenty of warm stuff since they really want to do the luau. (Yeah, I know, I wouldn't do it myself but I think it is the memory of a time years ago when they all had such fun...:grouphug: ) Keeping my fingers crossed that it is somehow not too cold and it's dry when they see the show. The Weather Channel is showing the showers becoming more intermittent in the afternoon. (Insert fingers crossed icon here) Thanks!

question abouyt the poly. if I bring my laptop, can I just plug it into the phone cord and use local dial up?

my plan is to bring it to download my pictures and do a LIVE from the POLY report when I go in may, i just started my pre trip and i hope to have a bunch of you devoted poly fans on the boat for my live report!

Hi all! We just returned from 7 nights at the Poly. We had a great time. Our party consisted of Myself (32), DH, DS's (5 and 2) and my parents (64). We checked in at 7AM on Jan 21. Recieved our requested interior connecting room in Tokelau. Rm 2933. This was on the opposite side of the quiet pool, and had a glimpse of the lagoon from the balcony, and a nice quiet view of the landscaping. Fabulous location midway between the TTC and the GCH, and steps to the quiet pool! Check in was super quick and efficient, but becuase of our early AM arrivial the room wasn't ready (we didn't expect it to be, but checked in to get our KKTK for the day)

When we returned at about 1:30 our rooms were ready. The room had a leak above the fridge area (on the ceiling) that got larger as the week progressed but went unattended by maintence (not dripping yet, but spot was getting bigger and bigger by the day) and the fridge didn't work, even after leaving both cabinet doors open for 8 hours, however once we called maintence it was replaced within 2 hours (at 10pm...) Later that 1st evening, around 11:00 a maintence man entered our room to fix a toilet....we never called about a a toilet,:confused3 and he woke both kids when he knocked loudly and then ENTERED the room :sad2: My fault for not putting on the safetly latch... It was a rough start for the Poly! Housekeeping left alot to be desired. The room was clean - no dust or grime...however....the beds...they didn't change the sheets once during our 7 day stay. We had 2 torn pillowcases. One day the bed wasn't made, instead it the comforters were left folded at the foot of the bed. They never "put away" the sofa bed, just straightened the sheet and left the throw pillows on the floor next to it. When the beds were made, they didn't look "disney perfect" they were rumpled, crooked...honestly, quite a mess! We never recieved refills on the empty toiletries (conditioner/handcream) and we left the empties in the sink so its not like we were just taking them! LOL Also, no refills on coffee or coffee condiments, and the coffee pot didn't fit the coffee maker - so I had to stand there and press the pot up against the drip spout to dispense it...grrrr... I could go on, but I'll stop there, as this is starting to sound like a rant, and its not my intent.

The highlights of our stay at the poly included some of the wonderful staff that we encountered at the resort. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Maintence and housekeeping were extremely prompt when I called for service (blanket for sofa bed, bedrail, fridge replacement, coffee...) We continue to love the poly for its grounds and landscaping, that (IMHO) can't be rivialed by any other disney resort, and for its convenient location, as we walked to the TTC numerous times during our stay.

Bus service to AK and DHS was fine. We waited no more than 10 minutes for buses both going there and coming back. The worst bus was to DTD, once we waited 15 minutes to get there, and 30 to get back, and the other time it was almost an hour (people were cussing such at the bus stop) and then another 25 to get back.

Also we discovered that bell services will not allow you to use their carts for your luggage, we were told they were for "bell services only" so, if you don't want to tip for baggage handeling, be prepared to lug your bags from your car to your room...which we did, however the Poly is one of the first resorts we've encountered that won't provide you with a cart to move your own luggage.

So, the question that was discussed on the 1200 mile drive back up I-95 was....Will we return to the Poly or has it lost its shine? And the answer was.....a resounding you betcha we'll be back!!! Perhaps we'll get a better housekeeper, and if not, I'll complain (which I didn't do this time). The resort is simply lovely and its location can't be beat by ANY other resort. The beach is fantastic, and it has the volcano pool...not to mention the fabulous ambiance at night and the hammocks on the beach....and the trails that wanderer around the resort....So our room wasn't perfect. Far from it...but it didn't ruin our vacation, and in the big scheme of things, who cares if there was a spot on the ceiling and I didn't get refills on little bottles of conditioner, and my bedspreads were crooked - I was in disney, in a clean room, with a great location with an attentive staff just a phone call away. What more could a girl want? (Besides a working coffee pot? :rotfl: ) ;)

OK, friends-I know that this has been discussed a million times already, but Im more confused than ever! I have a loooooong time to wait for my trip (too long-a year from Saturday! :sad2: ) but of course I am enjoying planning...but in reference to the longhouse requests-to request or not request?? I read (possibly in the Passporter) that the rooms in the north end of Tokelau on the quiet pool side can get sideways views of the MK...specifically X901-X913 and X939-948. I am booking a garden view room (because of financial reasons, of course!) but I would looooove a view of the happiest place on earth! It is our first trip to the Poly & I want it to be as magical as possible! Please help! :confused3 :confused3

Since you seem to know what you want to request, I can't think of ANY reason why it would be to your DISadvantage to make a request.

what is this ethernet cable i keep hearing i need to bring? if i just get some local access numbers for the LBV area, i can just hop on without the 10 a day fee?

I must agree that I'd be very unhappy with that Mousekeeping scenario too! (Ours was just adequate on our last trip) But as you so politely put it, you didn't complain this time. I understand, sometimes you just hope it'll be better the next time, right? You also rounded up your post with an honest, not the end-of-the-world "I'll be back!" Thanks for the info-- it's always a fear of mine to have such bad mousekeeping in such an expensive place. Always good to hope for the best and expect the worst--but you're right--it's Disney!! Glad you had a good time and thanks for sharing. (And I totally get the drive home part! We go just 1400 miles one way and that leaves a lot of time to chat about the trip!)

We encountered this at the CR back in 2003. They would not let us use the carts for our luggage then. :sad2:

Thanks for your review! Since you just came back, I'm wondering... did you happen to notice if they have the resort specific refillable mugs out yet? Or, are they still the Year of a Million Dreams ones? :flower3:

:wave2: Hi, I just read your post that you were at the World May 24 -31 last year. Do you happened to remember how the crowds were? I'm seeing high predictions for this week. Getting nervous!

Oooo the crowds were wonderfully low! my DBF is spoiled because hes never been at any other time so he'll think 45-an hr for a ride is too long :rotfl: when we went last year, TOT's wait time sign said 13 mins haha. longest waits we saw all week were RNRC and Soarin and TSM because it was new but other stuff like buzz and pirates were walk on, and the longest we waited was how long it took us to walk from the front of the line to the actual ride vehicles :goodvibes im so glad were going the same time because it was very very easy going and the lines werent bad at all :thumbsup2

We traveled to the World on the May Canadian Long weekend (that is usually sometime around the 24th) on our last trip. Our other trips had been during the fall and winter. On our second day, which was a Saturday, at the Magic Kingdom... I found it extremely frustrating. Every ride had a 90 minute wait, we couldn't see any parades, and it was boiling hot. It really actually mellowed out during the rest of the trip.
