new to the thread...subscribing.

I've stayed at the Beach Club and loved it so I need a little convincing on why I should stay at the Poly in November instead. Here are my positives and negatives from the BC

Pros:
location, short walk to Epcot
stormalong bay...best pool area i have ever seen
beaches and cream
short walk to the boardwalk

Cons:
Rooms are in need of upgrades
house keeping wasn't great

I'm not sure I'm qualified to do any convincing since this will be our first trip to the Poly in August. I just thought I'd mention that we usually stay at BWI and I also love the proximity to Epcot. The pool may be hard to top from the Beach Club. All I can add is that we just wanted to do something different this trip and experience one of Disney's other wonderfully themed resorts. Although I love BWI, it isn't as strong of a theme in my opinion. DH and I are celebrating our 40th bdays this trip so we thought the Poly would feel like a Hawaiian vacation within a vacation!

You don't mention if you will be going with a family in tow, but being on the monorail is a big plus with little ones. I've heard the Neverland Club is great for kids and you are walking distance to the Grand Floridian to check that out.

Good luck deciding! Isn't it wonderful to have to make such choices???

We just returned from a four night stay at the BWI. While the hotel was nice and the location was good it just did not feel like a vacation to us. We have stayed at the Poly for the past three years and became accustomed to the grounds, restaurants, pool, transportation, Chef Dick, game room, beach, etc.

I will not say we were disappointed with the BWI, just that we will not be going back. I have already reserved our trip at the Poly for April 2009! :goodvibes

I love the fact that one of our biggest "dilemma's" is which beautiful hotel we will get to stay in. We have 2 little ones in tow DD4 and DD2, so the youngest is too young for the Neverland club.

We were there 5/11-5/17, and, boo hoo, I now miss the Poly! When last when we were there 2 years ago, the bedding and TV had not yet been remodeled, so we were very excited to see the changes. Love the new woods and the TV was a big hit with DD10 and DS10 (of course)!

Oh and Captain Cook's is much bigger and easier to get around . . . not that we used it as much as we'd originally planned, because . . .
WE GOT UPGRADED TO CONCIERGE!!!

Yes, the magic hit us big time! This is our 3rd time at the Poly. in 4 years, so think that helped us a lot, because the check-in person was so apologetic that they weren't able to give us either the floor or building we requested. We'd requested 3rd floor gardenview Tokelau (same as 2 year's ago's stay) and he noticed we were going to be in Tahiti, 2nd floor. Not a bad option, but when he ever came back and said we'd be staying on the 3rd floor gardenview of Hawaii (same as we stayed on our first family trip, in 2005), we were so so excited!! Love love love the convenience of Hawaii and the lounge, and it was so nice to see Chef Dick and his cute fruit display on our last evening.

The Poly. is as wonderful as ever. :cloud9:

We fly to Florida in the morning and tomorrow at this time we'll be at the Polynesian, getting ready for dinner at 'Ohana!!! :sunny:

I'll be back next weekend and will give a full trip report, including pictures. :3dglasses

Have a great week, everyone!! :wave2:

We will be leaving Cleveland on our way to the Polynesian in around 23more hours. Thank you all for the info you have posted as I feel a little more comfortable I will know the "insider" things to look for at the resort.

Here's hoping for magical and happy trips for both SeaSrpay & mikasmom!

How wonderful to be upgraded! Love for that to happen for us....:goodvibes so glad you had a magical trip!

I've searched this thread for this answer and didn't see it, so i apologize if this is a repeat: Does anyone know if you can hook up a DVD player to the tv in the Poly. rooms? Thank you!!:cool1:

Is there a microwave in any of the rooms - can you request one? Also when are the resorts likely to give out upgrades? We are going for the first time in July to the polynesian - I'm guessing they will be booked so no hope for any upgrades.. We are so excited and we love this thread!! Thanks!:yay:

There are no microwaves, however I think you can request one and they also have one at Captin Cook's you can also use. As for any upgrades it does not matter the month you would be staying there, they are totally random and could happen at anytime.

Hi all!:wave2:

We just got back yesterday from a 7 day stay at the Poly, and we had a great time. I'll put up a full review and a trip report with pictures soon, but for now here is a quick summary....

The resort itself was beautiful! It was really well themed and quite clean considering the amount of people milling about. I've read elsewhere that some people think the theming is too 70's, but we didn't think so. The lobby is beautiful with some nice shops and pleanty of places to sit and relax. The staff was really friendly and helpful, much better than another resort we visited, but I'll touch on that in my trip report.

We requested a balcony in Tokelau prior to check in and got just that. Of couse I was hoping for an upgrade (who doesn't) but was really happy when we got to our room and saw the view. We had room 3947 which is third floor facing the quiet pool. Imagine our surprise when we stepped out onto the balcony, looked right and...tada!.....we could clearly see Cinderella's Castle! How cool is that?!?! :thumbsup2 The room itself was huge compared to the moderates that we usually stay at, and upon check-in it was pretty well cleaned. However we did have some issues with housekeeping and I'll get into that in my full review and trip report.

The pool, beaches and ground were wonderful. My wife described it best when she said it feels "more fun" compared to Riverside, which is where we usually stay. The beach had allot of room to roam and play, even at times when it was more crowded. The main pool was awsome with it's zero entry, waterfall and slide. Just like the beaches, even when the pool was crowded there was still room to enjoy it.

Transportation was great to the Magic Kingdom, but kinda so-so to everywhere else including Epcot. The walk to the TTC was short and nice, but the wait for the monorail was just as long as the buses at the mods. Don't get me wrong, traveling on the monorail to Epcot was still way better than the bus (no whiplash from those crazy Disney bus drivers), but it still wasn't as fast as we hoped for. Speaking of the buses, we took the buses to Downtown Disney and Hollywood Studios from the resort and had no problems. It was honestly no worse or better than our experiences in the past, which is a good thing.

The food, however, was not good at the Poly or the whole of WDW for that matter. YUCK! There has been discussion in the past that the quality of Disney food has gone down recently (possibly due to the Dining Plan) and I'd have to agree. Two meals even made us sick. Not good. We also now know where in Disney you can get something that taste like armpit.:lmao: You'll have to wait for my trip report for more on this (I'm such a tease), but needless to say it was our most comical and disgusting moment in WDW. Yummmmm.....armpit!

I also did the Poly Photoshoot and have to say that they did an excellent job. We got to see the photos while we were there and most of them turned out beautifully! The Photopass Photographer spent allot of time with us and took about 54 pictures. I still have to order the CD from the Photopass site, but I'll try to find a way to post some of the pics so you all can see what it like. It was worth the time and money (only $25 with pre-puchase of the CD) and I would definetly recommend it to anyone staying at the Poly.

I'll be back later with a full review and pics!:thumbsup2

Glad to hear you had a wonderful time!! Looking forward to your pics and your trip report!

I am so excited!! We leave next Tuesday. Please post about the armpit before then. Haha!!

:lmao: I'll hopefully have something up about it tonight. We're still joking about it now and it happened our second day there. Hehe.

I hope you have a great time next Tuesday. Hopefully the crowds are as low for you as they were for us. We walked right on most of the attractions in all the parks and fast passes for the real big rides like Soarin were only a 1hr wait. In MK we walked right onto Small World, Haunted Mansion and the like. I think the longest thing we waited for was Turtle Talk with Crush, and that was like 25 mins. Actually in Epcot the wait times for everything dropped as the day wore on. Spaceship Earth started with like a 20min early in the day but we walked right on it around 2pm. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the crowd levels were. Too bad it was still smoking hot. Ugh!

I'm working right now on getting the pictures off my camera and posted here. I'll have to wait for the CD from the photopass site for better quality images that I can share, but for now I'll try to grab a screen shot of some of the photos and post them. They'll be small, but should at least give you an idea. It might take a while for that though as I have to reinstall one of my editing programs on my PC which blew up right before we went on vacation. So if I can figure out how to snatch a screen shot on my wife's Mac, I'll post them even sooner.

Sure can! Just bring your AV cords with you that you use to hook up your DVD to your TV at home. As an additional FYI, you can also do this for a video gaming system like a Wii, PS3 for Xbox, and an iPod with video.

Oh and Captain Cook's is much bigger and easier to get around . . . not that we used it as much as we'd originally planned, because . . .

Wow, Congrats on the upgrade! :thumbsup2 You guys got some powerful pixie dust.

Was this at the Sci-Fi Drive-in? :lmao: :lmao:

Can't wait to see your pictures from the Poly photo shoot and to read your trip report. :thumbsup2

I'm thinking we might get hit with the post-Memorial Day crowd :headache: , but maybe everyone will just stay for the long weekend and go home Tuesday morning before we get there. :thumbsup2

Either way, we'll have a great time!!

Looking forward to your pics, TR and armpit story! :rotfl:

OK-- I shipped water last time, and I cannot find any notes on how I did the timing!

Option 1: Order Thursday and most likely delivered Friday. We check in Sunday.

Option 2: Order Friday and *maybe* Saturday delivery, no guarantee.

Do you think they'll hang onto it for us? Monday is a MK day and I want to have water for it. I have no plans on running back to the resort mid-am to meet the Office Depot truck! :lmao:

And, yes, the thought does occur to me that I can try placing a faux order this Friday and see what shipment date the website give it. But this is a holiday weekend, so, mileage could vary.

Anyone have experience with this and *remember* how you did it?

Also: I will be having a lapu lapu on the patio this time in 2 weeks!!!!!

We just placed an order for water and other goodies on the garden grocer website. You tell them what day and time you want it delivered. Twelve dollar delivery fee....might want to check this out. They cut off orders a few days out. We will be going in one month, so we ordered last night.

Sorry, but I didn't get around to my trip report tonight. Things have been really hectic since we got back. Mostly the typical unpack, clean and pay bills thing, but we also found out that while we were gone my dad ended up in the hospital after suffering a few mini strokes. It's really spooky since he's in such great shape and takes such good care of himself.

Anyway, here are a few pics I wanted to share in the meantime....

The view from the balcony leaning over the rail looking right. It was room 3947 in Tokelau.
