I am so glad you said that!! The smell of the waterfall in the atrium is what thrills me! I just don't know what it is that I love about it. Once I smelled it at another hotel and Russ and I just fell apart with longing for the poly!

I agree! I love the smell of the GCH and look forward to smelling it every vacation (that sounds kind of weird, but true). Always brings back memories. Last year we went with my sis in law and I almost fell over when she said the GCH smelled like pickles and my wife agreed with her. :rotfl2: PICKLES? are you kidding me? Smells like heaven on earth to me! :lovestruc Oh well.....

My husband says the same thing about the "smell" of the lobby in the Poly! We visited there on our last trip for dinner and he immediately remembered the smell and brought back childhood memories of staying there. SOOO now we are going in December and staying at the POLY! I read him the post last night and he laughed and said, "See, I'm not crazy! It is true!"

Are there no smelling smilies? I am disappointed!

I need one of a smilie smelling the Poly.

I agree about that smell in the lobby...it just evokes a big ahhhhh from all of us.

There used to be a distinctive and wonderful aroma in the longhouses as well. Different from the lobby but just as wonderful. We felt it welcomed us home to the Polynesian. We do miss that.

Hi Poly lovers:wave2:

Ok, I was checking the menus over on All Ears. I noticed the Capt. Cooks menu was last updated 11/06. I believe this was before the renovations? Anyway, I'm wondering if the menu is still fairly accurate? Esp the breakfast items. Do they still have the hot breakfast? DD(16) wants to make sure she has a supply of Mickey waffels available:rotfl2: We plan on getting ADR for one morning at Kona, but aren't always able to get out of the room when we plan on it. (it's the two teenagers ya know:lmao: )
Thanks for you're help

I do believe that Capt. Jack's does still have a breakfast menu.
Another source you might try is ***********. he has a wonderful site devoted exclusively to the Poly.
In fact, he just came back from his latest vacation and mentioned that Kona now has a sushi bar on a trial basis.
Have a wonderful vacation and smile at the castle from the beach for me.

Oops, I guess they won't let me say the name of the site I was refereing to.
I'm fairly new to this site and have no idea how to post a link. Sorry!

WOW, thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. It is truely AMAZING. and I have learned so much about the POLY. It has taken me about a week to read through this entire thread.

I will be staying at the POLY for my Disneymoon this December as part of a land/sea. We are doing 4 days Poly then 3 days Wonder. I was wondering if anyone on here has done the Land/Sea before, I have a few questions.

Thank you! I am even more excited for my Honeymoon now, thanks to this thread.

Yes, JRDMAN is right. Captain Cook's does still have hot food at breakfast. I know waffles are still on it and there's a breakfast platter. CC also now serves the famous Tonga Toast.

We have done the Land/Sea package before!

XNascar- Thank you!

My questions are:
1- What type of room did you have at the Poly, location and view mainly. We are booked a category 5 on the cruise, I don't know if this makes a difference at the POLY.

2- Did you recieve any bounce back offers?

3- Did you take advantage of the extra morning at AK, and did you think it was worth it?

Thank you so much for your help. I would love any other information you think might be important.

We did the land/sea back in 1999 for our honeymoon, so I'm not sure if anything has changed or not. We are going back in Oct for another land/sea and will be staying at the Poly.

1. We started off in a garden view room near the quiet pool. About 2 days into our trip, hurricane Floyd was about to strike so we got moved all the way across the resort to a 3rd floor room with a balcony. I'm not sure which building we were moved to.

2. Bounceback offers were not out at that time.

3. We did not take advantage of the morning at AK. I don't even think it was offered at that time.

When we go in Oct our DD4 will be with us and we plan on having late breakfast at O'hana's and then just hang out at the resort until it's time to board the bus to head to port.

Please let me know if there are any other questions that I can answer for you. We did spend 8 days at WDW back in Aug 07.

We won a land and sea trip so we will be going on our first one in August. I am glad someone asked these questions, we picked the poly because it is someplace that I have always wanted to stay.
I think the last day idea is great with eating breakfast at Ohana's and hanging out at the resort while you wait to leave.
But, I do have a question. What time does the bus come to get you for the sea portion of your trip?

I do believe, in my obsessive searching and reviewing these boards that the bus from the POLY leaves around 11:30am, you need to be in the lobby at 11am and the bus from AK leaves around 12:30, but you need to be outside the park at the meeting spot at noon.

I am not sure of the time for the other Land/Sea resorts!

Thank you for your answers! I'm glad that the storm didn't ruin your honeymoon!

Thanks alot for the info. :goodvibes
Now would you happen to know about what time you reach the port?

I believe it takes about an hour from the parks/resorts to port.

The only problem we had was the parks closed early a a few days and we also missed Castaway Cay due to the storm.

Thats sad you had to miss CC, I have heard really great things about it. my DF is really looking forward to seeing the Pirate Ship there and snorkling. I am all about the Couples Cabanna Massage :)
