Unless you're staying Club Level, you do not get escorted to your room.

Once we were assigned our rooms and told the bellman where we were to be, he loaded our things onto a golf cart and asked if we wanted to ride with him. DH ended up riding while the rest of us walked over because we wanted to see the resort. So I think that would be a way to get to your room ahead of everyone.

depending on what you want to put in the room, Disney offers things you can order and have placed ahead of time. You can also ship it ahead and ask the front desk a couple of days ahead to put it in the room.. good luck!

We made our first visit to Poly last week - WOW! Within hours we had decided we would never stay anywhere else!

Well, looks like we have another convert. Once you get bit by the "poly bug", it's tough to kick! Glad you had a gret time. We'll be leaving next week for our Poly vacation and I'll have a report when we return. :cool1:

I was bummed to read that carymom0f3 was rushed and had an unpleasant meal at Kona. We have 2 ressies there in Sept. I want to sit and savor my Kona coffee and NOT be rushed. Over all it is so great to read all the very recent reports of people who have just returned from their vacations at the Poly..me and DH are very excited our upcoming (just the 2 of us) trip.:lovestruc I almost don't care if our room requests are honored..maybe it's more fun to let the magic take over.

Thanks for the info makes planning a little less stressful. I might be able to sneak off without them, maybe a bathroom trip before we go off and find the room:rotfl2:

This might be a good option....DH will have to take the long way around to make sure I get things set up before the reach the room:rotfl2:

Thanks but when I, checked into this I have read that sometimes they dont get the stuff in your room before you arrive to it...and I think it will be cheaper if I bring the items and set it up my self. One thing they are going to get is autograph books and we will need those right away, so I dont want to chance them not arriving until later in the day or even the next day as I have read.

Thank you so much! I showed these to DH, and we're going to go with this instead of renting. Now I just need to call to request the crib and then cancel the crib rental! hehe

I really appreciate your details & pics!

Your most welcome. When we got in our room, the crib wasn't there, so I just called Mousekeeping, and someone brought it right over...just make sure you ask for the crib.

Hope it works out just as good for you.

PS one afternoon, we closed up the drapes a bit on one side by her crib and then placed an extra blanket over the top (from the closet) for even a more secluded/peaceful rest, and she just layed there for almost an hour...

We put the crib right next to the furthest bed between it and the chaise lounge in our room, but I'm sure you'll be able to find a great place anywhere...the rooms were very big.

And hey now w/ the $ you'll save, buy your little one a special souvenir:goodvibes

:offtopic:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But, I just read that Disney announced the closing of 6 clubs at Pleasure Island effective Sept 27th.
This will eliminate Pleasure Island as we know it. I hope they have something better in mind. I can't imagine what it might be. But, I will surely miss PI.

We stayed at POLY last week for the first time. Darned Poly! Just LOVED it. Everything PP said is true. So quiet. So close and convenient. Very close to the quiet pool. no noise at night. DSA right near the room. Bus stops right there. Monorail, right there..boat rides, arcade with a smoking table RIGHT there..If it werent for the price, I would stay EVERY TIME. But I just dont think Im gonna be able to foot that again. But really, really, great.
Now, about sushi. Am I to understand that the coffee bar turned into a sushi bar while we were there? Because I could swear on the first morning I bought coffee in the morniing upstairs, and when I came back, it was a sushi bar..or is it sushi in the afternoons??Not sure.
Dole whip worked fine..delish! Capt Cooks, I gotta tell you the pre order with pager was fantastic. Vivian, the CM there was just so pleasant to talk with. She talked with us out at the table outside the arcade for quite awhile and was really nice.
I have to tell you that the bar upstairs told us they could not serve appetizers until four oclock, which, either I didnt know, or they just changed it.
Walter was fabulous (the bartender upstairs..)
Just loved the whole thing. Except the Luau..Prev Posters were right about that..pretty uneventful, even though our server Tomas, from Tel Aviv, was very kind.
If I could find a discounted price, I would stay again. Room in Tokelau was HUUGE..plenty of room for 2 adults and 4 kids. Plenty..
The fridge wasnt great. took about 3 days to get cold drinks. How it froze up in the back, Ill never know, because to the touch, it wasnt much cooler than our room.

CarymomoOf3's experience at Kona Cafe' is not the norm. We've eaten there several times and I can't ever remember being rushed by our server. It was just a fluke that she had a bad experience. It can happen anywhere. Don't be discouraged!:goodvibes

Once you have checked in do you get to find your room yourself or do they have a CM escort you? I want to sneak ahead of my DH and DS-3 and DS-11 so I can place a present in the room from MICKEY. I need to figure out how I can do this:confused3

If you can, look up a map of the resort online and "plot your course." Cause when we first checked in they gave us map and told us where to go, but with my check-in luck (i have NEVER had a smooth check-in at WDW) we got lost. So I went back to the lobby to get more detailed directions:rotfl2: :rotfl2: But again, we were lost. Then the nicest family (they had been there a couple of days and did the same thing we did), saw our distress and walked us to the door of our long house--Fiji. The thing that I really laugh at now, is how close Fiji is the GCH. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: So plan ahead:thumbsup2

My lunch at Kona, was one of the best meals at WDW I have ever had. Don't give up on Kona. It is one of WDW best places to eat!

I just wanted to echo this sentiment. My family and I have eaten at Kona on a regular basis and we've never been rushed through our meal. Granted you can get a bad server anywhere but this hasn't happened to us here. If anything we've had the same server on numerous trips.

My DD8 and I are spending two days at WDW in August before we go visit family and will be dining at the Kona Cafe for dinner. I can't wait!

If you want the "goodies" to get into the room before your kids, do it yourself.

We had ordered from Disney Florist to have them in the room when we arrived and they didn't get delievered until about 10 PM the first night....

Even if you ship something yourself, you have to ask for it at the front desk yourself and then it will be delivered. Do not expect anything to be in the room before you....

We actually were escorted by cart to our room because we had groceries delivered and they were waiting for us. He even gave us a grand tour around the Poly prior. I do not think it hurts to ask, just do not plan on it. Have a backup plan!

For the rooms that dont have balconies--what do they have? Just a window to look out at or a sliding glass door? I know I have read the rooms on the 2nd floor dont have balconies, so I am just wondering what the non-balcony rooms have.

Thanks!

There is a sliding glass door with a railing on the outside.

so you can open the door for fresh air? Does anyone have any pics of these? I just want to be able to open the door and get fresh air in case I dont get a room with a balcony.
:thumbsup2

I don't have any pictures, but yes the door opens for fresh air :goodvibes:

I'm afraid of hights, so a balcony and me wouldn't get along too well :scared1: :rotfl:

Thank you!! I think Im liking the idea of a balcony more and more:rolleyes1 so I guess I can request one at check-in....I love to sit on the balcony in the mornings and the evenings. The WL and GF made me spoiled on that! :worship:

I stayed on the 5th floor of the WL a few years ago (courtyard view). It was pretty out there, but I couldn't step out the door :rotfl2:

I have a couple questions--

Do all rooms have little fridges?

Is there a washer/dryer (laundromat) available onsite for guests to use??
