Also, can I have them put my 14 year old on the card so he can charge too? Of course, he knows he can't charge something unless he has permission or he'll be paying us back (with interest)!!!

First WELCOME to the DIS,
and the Wilderness Lodge FAQ Thread

I travel with many nieces and nephews and as they got older I always gave them charging privileges, my older nephew when he was 17 had a friend join us and we where to meet at the Coral Reef at EPCOT for lunch I told him we maybe a little late. When we arrived no nephew...so we went ahead to be seated...when we came around the corner there is my DN and friend having lunch, I said what would you have done if we had canceled, he said "I have my room key." He also has used it for late night raids at Roaring Fork and snacks at the Mercantile.

Hello everyone!

Well, after a very delayed flight we got home at 4:30 AM (don't ask) and I have unpacked and washed clothes and put DS's 'treasures' on his bed for him to look at when he gets back from his friend's house.

WL was wonderful, the CM's and mousekeepers were great and we loved our room. We had a fabulous view of the falls and the pool, and could even see some of the higher up fire works at night. We got all of our room requests as well. Boat and bus service were great, even after park closings and e-nights. I didn't find the pool all that crowded, but maybe that's because we usually went in the morning or at dinner time.

On a sad note, DS did lose his Lucasarts hat that George Lucas had given him. The CM's stayed on hold and called lots of places to try and find it, but no luck. I think someone has a nice souvenir from Disney that they didn't have to buy!

Other than that, we had great weather (rained yesterday but that meant we had frontier and adventureland to ourselves for the most part), DS loved the arcade at WL and I second whoever said that Territory Lounge is where it's at in the evenings!

I'm in serious WDW withdrawal. Usually takes me a couple of days to pull out of it. DS is a little sadder--it's two years until his next trip--but he did point out that the only way not to feel sad is not to go at all, and that, 'that would just be crazy.'

Thanks to everyone for their great tips! We did the Mickey hunt, knew how the transportation worked and all sorts of other great things because of this board! We'd have missed some cool stuff without it.

Madge-Enjoy your trip! Fred-I filled out my room info. and have pictures from the balcony. Where do I send them again?

Take care everyone! I'm going to bed.

Sarah

oops, I forgot. We did use our room card at the little carts. The only place we couldn't use it was the rolling carts they have before the parades that sell things that light up.

We're back home after 7 heavenly nights at WL. It was FABULOUS!! To all WL Vets - thank you for the valuable information you have posted. We now totally understand your devotion to WL and join you!!! To those of you who are anxiously anticipating your first trip to WL - you will not be disappointed! The lobby is awesome; the rooms may not be as big as the other deluxes, but we found it quite comfortable; loved the theming. Yes, I can see how the wood bed frames could cause a stubbed toe or bruised shin, but we never had any problems with them.

The only (and I mean the one and only) complaint I have is the transportation. It wasn't "bad" or "a nightmare" or anything drastic like that; just time consuming. Everywhere we went by bus, we always had to go to Fort Wilderness first - that added about 15 minutes to each trip and got old quickly! There were several times when 2 or 3 MGM Studios buses would come (and leave empty) but the Epcot or AK bus we needed took 30 or 40 minutes. The boat ride to MK was relaxing - and pretty reliable time-wise. I would have liked a direct bus to MK though. You have to take the TTC bus and transfer to the monorail - just a minor inconvenience.

Check-in was a breeze. We had booked woodsview but were offered a courtyard upgrade (complimentary) at check-in.

We will be planning another trip there soon!

Glad you had a safe trip home, if not a short one sorry about your delays.

We had a fabulous view of the falls and the pool, and could even see some of the higher up fire works at night.
Sounds like a great Inner Courtyard View was that an upgrade? Did your DS go fishing? What did you do for his great grades...did you go to WCC or Quest?

Questions, questions now it's your turn to answer. :p
We need details so we can visit the Lodge vicariously.

Welcome to the club...:p I am so happy when we have someone that really "GETS IT." Sure there are always somethings you might wish where different but on the whole Wilderness Lodge is like coming home. (where you don't have to clean or cook)

Magicinmyheart-We decided to go to WCC and the CM made a fuss about his grades (loudly, I might add) and let him 'get away' without eating all of his pancakes for it!

He did go on the kids fishing. At almost $29.00 for only an hour, it might seem like a bad deal, but the men who took them (4 boys, 1 girl) picked them up at the WL dock and didn't start the clock on their trip until they got to their fishing spot. DS caught 9 fish. He loved it and would have done it again if we'd had time. He and the other children were lucky, too, because the rain and thunderstorms set in as he was, almost literally, stepping off the boat onto the dock.

I may have gotten a room upgrade, but they didn't tell me if I did. I was supposed to have a woods view, but I'll have to check into that. It was a really great view. The sliding door really blocks out any noise from the pool. DS and I liked sitting out there after getting in at night.

Welcome matocody1997! We are almost neighbors! In the parks we found that we couldn't charge small snacks off the carts we stopped at to our room card. We carried some cash for this. Also, along the Boardwalk (outside Epcot) the carts there did not have the ability to charge to your room. Only the restaurants and stores there could.

Welcome back babybunrab! We were there at about the same time. It was our first time also -- what a great resort! It was beautiful, relaxing, well-themed, and felt very welcoming, didn't it? Sorry about your son's hat.

Thanks, ADisneygirl. The lost hat didn't ruin our trip, but we could have done without it! The staff was great in the way they tried to help, though. I agree--a beautiful, relaxing resort. I loved hearing the music in the morning (I swear there was special morning music, but I'm likely wrong. I probably was just hearing the same song) as I got off the elevator. I also went out of my way to walk over the little bridge. What a lovely place! I miss it...

We also had some great CM magic while there--Elsa at the Pin trader place in AK was fabulous. A CM in MGM just gave us a new autograph pen when we'd misplaced our other one (we also lost our cel phone...gee whiz!) The buspeople and waiters at Boma were really nice to DS--stopped by to talk to him often. The pastry chef was friendly as well (I admit to a bit of a crush on the pastry chef...) Sandra at the Jungle Cruise was hysterical! I may never go on it again, as she'd be hard to top! She let DS 'drive' and had a nice conversation with him. She also hooked him up with the 'safety cards' that go with the pins he was collecting.

Also, being a party of 2 has its advantages! We got to hop on early on many rides, as ride CMs were always looking for twos!

Such a great trip! Thanks again for all of the great advice.

We haven't had any luck with our return flights for every trip we have made. Last one was 2 hours delayed. January was 1.5 hours delayed and September was 3 hours!! I complained to Continental but it gets you nowhere.

Thanks for the survey and photos! Send it over to wdwwl@majesticnetworks.net. :)

Glad to hear you had a good time. I miss the Lodge something terrible I tell ya. ::yes::

Wilderness Lodge Room Survey...

ATTENTION ALL FUTURE WILDERNESS LODGE GUESTS:

I have been working on a new project for a room database at WL. I need some help here from all of you.

When you go, I need you to print out a survey and fill it out when you are at Wilderness Lodge. Then, when you get back, I need you to email the results to: wdwwl@majesticnetworks.net. This way, one of the database admins can enter the room into the database if it doesn't exist or they can try to update an existing room entry.

ALSO!!! Make sure you take a picture of the view from the balcony and send it over to wdwwl@majesticnetworks.net so I can link it to the database entry.

This will be helpfull for everyone new and old to WL. You will be able to search for rooms based on any of the criteria listed in the room survey.

As always, thank you, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Fred

While I haven't rented the surrey bikes at the lodge I have done so over at the Boardwalk, we rented individual bikes at the Lodge and the single bikes where availiable with the baby carriers on them...the surry bikes have a little seat on the front for the smaller childern. (with seat straps to keep them in, my nephew was 18 months old on his first ride)

The room service at Wilderness Lodge is great click on the menu link below and it will take you to a few options available: (check out the first page of this thread for more detailed information about what is offered at the Lodge.

Just back from WL July 8-16 - the lodge is amazing!!! Thanks to all you WL vets for your advice and info! I'll try to answer any questions, our rm was standard view with a GREAT view of MK fireworks

Welcome back barb3779!

We were at the Lodge part of the time you were. What room number were you in? (I wanted to know if you had the service area view)

We rented surrey bikes (be aware that you have to be 18 to drive--a great disappointment to my ds, because he wasn't allowed to pedal, either). We saw a child who couldn't have been more than 18 months up on the little seat in the front.

We also got room service our last morning. The food was very good, and hot (the food, not just the plate)! It also came right when it was supposed to.

Any feedback on the Cubs Den? We have a 5 yr old who would be going on his own. Thanks for your help!

Hope you had a great time too, ADisneyGirl! Our rm was 5052, service area view which didn't bother us at all because the view was also of the smokehouse, the pond, the trees with the monorail going thru and the side and top of the Contemp. Those fireworks looked so close you felt you could reach out and touch em, I never thought the view of Wishes (if we had any at all) would be so good from our balconey. I'm really glad we didn't pay for an upgraded view. The rm was also very quiet.
As for the cubs den, sorry I don't have any feedback as our kids didnt' go in.

CAN'T BELIEVE ... we are almost leaving home ... to go visit with Humphrey !!!!

I'm sooooooooo happy !!!!
