Zurgswife-I didn't mean to sound like I'm trying to get something for free that I don't deserve--I'm sure I'll 'survive' the view I've got just fine! I've decided not to even ask, since I fear looking pushy. I just can't wait to be at WL. I've never, ever been able to afford to stay there (though I've had a lot of really wonderful trips to WDW before which makes me very lucky).

Anyway, DS and I will be there in just a few more weeks--July 13-19th. I can't wait--I've taken to staring at my WL screen saver for long periods of time.

Hi everyone!

Just completed 4 nights at the WL -- Courtyard view -- Rooms 3141 and 3143. Had a great time -- first time staying there. We are now at the Dolphin.

Any questions? Let me know.

Thanks!

No I think you miss understood my post...I was glad to know that there was a possiblity that I could be upgraded, but even if I wasn't I'd still be happy cause I had already upgraded myself from the POP to WL....

Phew! I feel better. I live in nearly mortal fear of offending people. Glad I didn't! I know what you mean, though. I "upgraded" myself when the codes came out, too.

I never would have dreamed we could stay at WL, but thanks to the information on this forum we were able to find out about the discounts and take advantage of them. I also knew what type of room to request. We had room 5083 and were able to see the fireworks every night, although they were partially blocked by a tree. We also had bunk beds. We loved everything about the lodge. It truly was an incredible vacation. Thanks for all the information that helped to make our trip great.

Here is a question for the WL experts...can you attach a water filter to the taps in the bathroom..???

/
For the recently returned-

How was the situation at the pool? Did you happen to be up around 6 or 7, and if you were, were the pools busy at that time? DS likes an early morning dip if he can get it. We don't get a lot of pool use opportunity up here.

Also, did you notice if there was a bus that goes to GF from WL? I know Beckie mentioned that sometimes the bus goes there and sometimes not.

I'm editing this to add another question-

I read somewhere that there was a wine shop at WL. If so, do any WL experts know if they specialize in wines from the Northwest, or are they from all over? I think the non-Disney DH would like a present from WDW, but not in the form of Mickey ears.

Thank you!

Zurgswife
This is a first, while I'm sure the Faucet Mount Water Filter's would attach to the faucet I'm not sure about the Spout Height and the basins are shallow, so there might be a problem fitting a large glass or larger container under the spout to then fill it. Most just bring the Brita Pitchers to use, but they would also require the same amout of clearance, :confused3 maybe they fill them from the tub??? If you decide to try the water filter please let me know how it works out, we always just bring our bottled water. The water filter would save money.

If there is a wine shop at WL, I can assure you I have never seen it so I would have to say no.

Sorry. :teeth:

DisneyPoly and Baileysmom

I am so glad you and your familys enjoyed your stay at Wilderness Lodge would you both please give us a room report. Just click on the link below and answer a few questions:
When you stayed at WL...

Thank You.

Beckie-

I bought bottled water (as you said you do) but I'm at a loss as to how to pack it. Do you carry yours on or put it in your suitcase? Or do you do something else that is more clever that I probably haven't thought of yet?

Sarah

Editing to say: Thanks, Fred! I guess DH will just have to wait until we go west next summer!

I remember when we stayed at WL (1999) the characters often roamed the building. I'll never forget two times in particular. One was when Pooh just about ran into me in the lobby. I was looking at something and turned around and there he was!!!! :earseek: The second one is when we were in the pool around 8am. All of a sudden Tigger is bouncing by the pool. It was such a surprise. :) I assume they were enroute to or from the character breakfast.

For those visiting lately, have you ever experienced character roaming the grounds???

Karen

Sarah- we will be on the Magic for 7 nights before our visit to WL. We have a grocery stop with FL Towncar on the way from the port to WL and we will buy a cheap styrofoam cooler and bottled water to keep in our room. We have done this before-much cheaper than buying water in the parks. Since it is July, we will probably buy a case or two-still much cheaper this way!!

Karen

DD and I have booked a standard room for the late July/early August. What should I request in the way of a view? Does it matter with the standard views? Do I want upper or lower floor? I'm booking with a very cheap AP rate and cannot afford to upgrade and all the pics I can locate are of more $$ rooms.

Thanks,
Jennifer

For a short while Disney stopped EMH but they did this Character Caravan where different characters visited the resorts on certain mornings. I believe this must be what you experienced on your trip the timing would be about right. Or like you said they may have been from the Character Breakfast. (They no longer have a character breakfast at the Lodge)l

I believe some have seen Koda from the new Disney animated film, "Brother Bear" around the Lodge within the last few months...

The pools are usually empty at this time of the morning the only ones I saw swimming where the resident duck family.

Also, did you notice if there was a bus that goes to GF from WL? I know Beckie mentioned that sometimes the bus goes there and sometimes not. While we where staying there in May Wilderness Lodge was sharing bus service with The Grand Floridian. But they change the bus routes from time to time so I would first ask the bus driver if the bus is going to GF if it is, then just ride it over. If not ride the Inter-bus to TTC then ride the Resort Monorail around to the GF.

I think the non-Disney DH would like a present from WDW, but not in the form of Mickey ears. I believe they have wines from the Northwest at Artist Point not sure what the cost would be...They also sale wine at The Mercantile but I don't know if they have any specialty wines. I think Fred would have found them. :p

Well I'm not sure how clever it is I place it in a large storage container (Rubbermaid) and put it in the trunk of my car...I only live about 2 hours away. A large duffle bag would work, but it would be heavy, I think Karen's grocery stop suggestion would work best for you.

Early morning swimming is one of the things that I am looking forward to at the WL in August. There is not lifeguard on duty so before 8am it was just me and the ducks! At 8 someone usually came to clean the pool, I just moved to the other side when they needed to vacuum where I was staying. Those early morning swims were important to me. i started my return to fitness on August 1 and on Aug 5, 2002 we went to the WL. That was my first exercise in years. It was a wonderful way to begin a healthy life!

Jennifer,

I too have booked a standard view for my next stay at Wilderness Lodge. While I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an upgrade...I will be happy with any room there. If I were you I would ask for a room on the fifth or sixth floor North Side of the Lobby with a possible Magic Kingdom View. Have a great trip.

Beckie

Thanks Beckie and Karen!

Yes, I suppose buying it once we get there would be smart. I'm so focused on the World that I sort of forget about the rest of Florida, and that there exist there things like grocery stores! This is what happens when you live far away.

I will be sure to ask the bus driver where s/he is going. I'm at least bold enough to ask that question, I think.

As for the pool, that's good to hear. DS will be excited if there are ducks (even though we live in the Adirondacks, wildlife still surprises him--too many years in the city, I guess).
