Is anyone else completely new to running? Or am I the only nut job in here?

You aren't the only nut! I am brand new to running, too.

I finally broke my 16 minute/mile -- but that does not mean I can do it for 13.1! I'm hoping the TX heat breaks soon, but it is supposed to be back up to 100 degrees all weekend. YUCK! :dance3:

Although there was no goodie bag this year, I thought all the free stuff at the expo was better. My DD and I went on Friday and there were very few people and we got free rice, pencils, yogurt and so other stuff. We didn't buy anything so if the expo is fun, I can do with the goodie bag full of coupons.
The shirt is a whole another issue...size, quality, being told the sizes were mismarked. I have four Princess shirts and the first one fits the best..the pink one and then the last two years are almost identical.

On another note, I have posted this video in the past, but we have a lot of new runners so I'll post it again. My DD daughter put it together and it is actually of the whole weekend not just the race.

I loved watching your video. :)

Cuz I know they keep tabs on us:

HEY DISNEY! We want an actual BAG for our goodies, COLORED tech shirts (and not the cheapest ones either, you're not the cheapest race so don't skimp out), and women's shirt options for ALL races!

Thank you,
Dawn

Here are some abrevations to help the newbies. I'll start with resorts that are commonly shortened.

I think that's most of them. I know when I started out on the Dis it took me a while to learn the lingo. :)

Thanks so much for the list, now I feel a little more in tune. :cool1:

Hope your weather in New Jersey is better than here in San Antonio, TX...gotta get rid of this humidity and heat so I can get off the treadmill and outside to train!:drive:

Oh my Texas Princess Sister....I feel your pain about the heat, suppose to be 101 here in San Antonio this weekend ! I feel good about maintaining my 14 min mile for now up to 6.5 mi.

I believe you can maintain the current pace for 13.1 if not do better. A little less than 6 months to go so WE CAN DO THIS! :cheer2:

DH=disney husband
BOG = be our guest
CM = cast member
ADR = advance dinner reservations

You hang around the forums long enough you'll learn all the abbriviations that people use.

Huh never realized MCO stood for that, cool!

Your my hero ! Thanks for the abbreviation list!

Hello, Princesses! Add me to the list! I am new to running and the PHM will be my first half! I am running with a group of girlfriends who I met when our husbands were stationed together overseas. Can't wait to see them! Since we are military, we are thinking of staying at Shades of Green because we an get a great rate. I am worried about transportation, though, and we don't want to deal with a rental car. Has anyone stayed at SoG for a marathon weekend? Do they provide transportation to the race on marathon morning?

Yeah more military wives! (hubby is now retired but once a military wife always a military wife!) SoG is across the road from Polynesian which I believe is a "host hotel" so you could walk over (maybe think of it as pre-race warm up?!)

It's suppose to be 100 this weekend in Dallas too. I'm still so wired to expect September to mean actual Fall weather, even though this will be my 4th Fall season here.

I'm here in Jerry's World (aka Arlington! :lmao:). Fall won't come until mid-October. September can be hot as blazes, and even touts one of the highest temps we have seen in the metroplex. Stupid Texas heat!!! :eek:

Yep, and that's the most difficult part. Knowing I have to wait longer to run outside again. I have to kill the motor and stick with the treadmill.

Man, I was so looking forward to it cooling off around here. My son and I ran/walked 4.1 miles Sunday night and it was so humid. That was first outside run in years!! And I have to admit, it felt really exhilarating! Thankfully I didn't puke, cuz we had just finished stuffing ourselves at Babe's Chicken in Frisco! We finished at very slightly over 14 minutes per mile. I thought, "Wow! If I can do that after eating, of which I don't recommend, then I can imagine how much better I could do if I ate better and lost weight!"

I'm in Montgomery, TX. I just moved here from San Diego, so this weather is just something that my body doesn't understand. lol. I was running on Monday and finding it very difficult to draw breath because the air was just so thick! It was 93 during my run today.

What do y'all mean "non existent" goodie bags?

I'm just a little south of you in The Woodlands :)

As far as the goodie bags, they are now "i-gift" bags.... You just get a link to it in the final race instructions email a few weeks before the race. I think it's just some downloadable coupons and such, so you don't get a bag full of those anymore at the expo...and no little samples, but you can walk around the expo and get some free samples there if you wanted. They also used to give a free Princess mesh back pack, which was cute and handy but they didn't do that anymore this year :(

What's up with that? That stink. And wow! The Woodlands! That's where we go to the movies. Tinseltown 17 or whatever. Ha! I'm still too new to remember the names of everything. Thats so cray that someone lives that close to me and is going to the PHM. I'm excited!

So no goody bags at all? Stupid! I was looking forward to them! You would think with the anniversary and all they can afford it!

Yeah, I think they've gone to the I-gift bag for all their races now. It sounds dumb, but I always liked going through all the samples, race advertisements, and coupons when I got back to my room to rest up...doing it online just isn't the same!

I have to know how in the world you got out and ran after eating Babe's?!? That is INSANE!!! :worship:

Thanks! When I called them they had no clue but thought if there was enough interest they could possibly have a pd shuttle. I think we have decided to stay at POFQ. Staying at Shades and walking to the Poly means that we would have to wake up that much earlier! :rotfl2:

I see you are in SA... me too, at least for a few more months!
