The New *Official 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon Thread*

I have seen quite a few ladies who are doing both the TOT run and the Princess.

Just curious on how you train for the Princess. I will be up to about 12 miles next week and don't see myself starting all over again at 3 miles after the TOT run. Not sure what type of program to follow, any recommendations?
At this point, I'm looking forward to dialing back the mileage because my knees have been so bad! But if they somehow manage to recover between now and then, I won't go all the way back down to 3 miles for long runs; maybe in the 5-6 range. I already make one short run a week speed work and when not injured I make every 4th weekend run hill work.

Cuz I know they keep tabs on us:

HEY DISNEY! We want an actual BAG for our goodies, COLORED tech shirts (and not the cheapest ones either, you're not the cheapest race so don't skimp out), and women's shirt options for ALL races!
:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 The Expedition Everest Challenge shirt was AWFUL! Scratchy, hot, way too big and boxy... a total waste.

If you have Netflix, they have a few documentaries on marathon runners. I started watching the spirit of the marathon the other night and it got me motivated to keep going.

And after every jog I complete I track where I would be on the Princess course on my computer

Thank you,

I'm so with you on this!!! 1 of my chief complaints from lady year was that cheap bag check bag!! Come on the nice pull
Drawstring bags should not too much to
Ask for! I paid 65 dollars for a half publix sponsored and they gave us nice re usuable bags. I saw in 09 that they had the nice purple bags.
STOP being cheap and give us decent bag check bags DISNEY!!!:stir:

Agreed! Although, the mesh back packs weren't able to be used for bag check...it was still the big plastic bag...though you could put your stuff in the mesh bag and put that bag in the plastic one to check :) bags in bags in bags in bags :)

YAY!!! I think I am going to sign up for the Devils Chase as well, I am HOPING to run most of the Rockfest. Ran 10.55 yesterday after not having run for a week, Nearly killed me!

YAY! Must be something in the air!!! I hadn't done a thing before yesterday. Sounds like there is going to be a few of us running it. Anyone want to meet up?

Anyone doing the NH 10 miler on Saturday?

I would love to meet up with anyone doing the Rockfest Half or the Devils Chase. I think it would be great to meet before the Princess. We'll have to figure something out when it gets closer.

Good luck if you're doing the NH 10 miler Saturday.

Also, good luck to anyone doing the Disneyland Half this weekend. Safe travels and I hope you all have a great race!!!

VickieHD and other DL runners, have a great weekend at the Land and an awesome race! I want details when you return!

What is the high temp where you all live today? Here is south Texas it's 106! Agh!

You won't like me. It was only about 83 today and no humidity. Althought I hear tomorrow is going to be in the 90s and the humidity will be back. Blech! It was great running the last couple of nights in cooler temps. Tonight I actually PR my 5 mile time by about 2.5-3 minutes. :cool1:

I don't know how you Texas, Florida and other southern gals run in that kind of heat and humidity. :scared1: Just think how much faster you will be when the weather cools off!

Congrats on your PR time! :cool1:

I'm so jealous of your cooler weather. Today, it will be 100 degrees... :furious:

I sure hope so! Because as summer drags on, I'm getting slower and slower every week. :headache:

Just read a special weather statement stating that heat indexes will be up to 113 today. Bah!

I have to know how in the world you got out and ran after eating Babe's?!? That is INSANE!!! :worship:

Lol! I think it was half excitement as I had officially registered for the race that day and the other half fear, "OMG! What have I got myself into, and can I really do this?"

So I was excited to have done what I did with that workout!

We ought to get together and do a run/walk one weekend. Perhaps with some other DFW princesses as well, for a little get together!! Anyone game?

My BF and I will be in DFW on 9/15 to run the Tour des Fleurs 10k/20k...will any of you all be at that race as well?

I really wanted to do that race too, but I will be in class. First express weekend class! Lots of luck to you and your boyfriend!

Well, I thought the heat would be the main problem with summer running. And the occasional snake crossing the trail in front of me, though I've hardly seen any this year. But no, today I was attacked from behind by a **very** agressive rather large flying creature, which stung me in the back of my head! I still don't have much hair yet, 3 months out of chemo, and I must be exuding bad vibes these days or something, because I didn't even see this guy until he stung me and flew away when I swatted at him! And the worst part about this is that I was having a pretty decent run, considering the weather, and had planned for 4 miles, but cut the last 1.25 miles off to head for home right away. What a bummer! Did a little research and found it might have been a bald-face hornet, which is apparently very agressive. I guess I'll go back to wearing a cap in the woods!

That's awful!! Everything that bites or stings is attracted to me too. Sorry you got stung!!!

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!! Hoping you are feeling better....sheesh, now aggressive bugs.....you need a break!

On a LIGHTER note, FINALLY booked a room.... POR Princess Royal Room ! Wahoo.......might as well take the theme of the race to the limit! I had wanted to do lunch at Le Cellier but right now, nothing available.....SO making decisions about what to eat after cleaned up from race. ..... though I will keep on checking for any cancellations!

SO I have paid for the race and reserved a room....this week I FINALLY got off my lazy summer butt and started training! Not only have I gotten my runs in.....got in my cross training which has been sorely missing. Oh and I am tracking my food as well - which I am trying to lose some lbs....BUT mainly eat heart healthy. yay me!

Finally getting a chance to check in...glad everyone was mostly able to get the ADRs they wanted, except for Le Cellier it seems. I'm jealous of those that are dining at BoG - I'd love to try it but would feel too guilty being there without my DDs. I have Via Napoli booked for Sat. dinner but haven't decided on post-race yet, I'm going to talk to my SIL this weekend and see whether she thinks we should do lunch or dinner. It will hopefully be one of the GF restaurants as we will be in MK.

I ran my 10k race last Sunday and finished in 1:01:43! I was really pleased and enjoyed the run, it was warm but not too hot and I dumped water on my head at every water station in case it got hot. My DDs ran the kids 1k and the timing of that was fun...they started exactly 1 hour after me so they were just heading out as I came in. I waved and cheered for them as I passed them and it gave me a boost to cross the finish line strong, then I was able to watch them finish.

Good luck to everyone at DL and watch out for the bugs, that hornet sounded nasty!

Welcome from a San Antonio gal! Just got done with 6.5 mi at a 14:06 pace (not bad for a 45 yr old princess & with the added humidity the goal was just go get through it!) From what everyone else has said...once humidity gets better (which in Texas means Oct/Nov) we should feel better and be able to go longer. My running coach has me concentrating on distance/endurance and then we will work on time. If you can't do the distance, the time won't matter.

Also a request...many of us are new to this thread and I'm not ashamed to admit don't get some of the abbreviations. I negotiate Department of Defense contacts so I'm not immune to abbreviations...just not some used on the thread. So PLEASE spell some out for those of us who are new. :)

LOL I can only imagine the abbreviations you must deal with. I work at a pension plan and even the name of our organization is an acronym!
